I am so excited to be an Elk!!

It’s that time of year again. December has come and with it all the joys of Christmas; decorations, presents, friends, family, tree lights, turkey dinners, gifts, parties, house lights, the list goes on and on. During the holiday season it is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle. This season, I challenge you to take time out to enjoy the things that are important to you. I am looking forward to singing Christmas carols at Mass, Peppermint Mocha coffee, neighborhood Christmas lights and my granddaughter’s face when she first sees our house deco-rated for the holidays.

There are lots of events this month at the Lodge. The Friday Night dinners, the Egg Nog Party and the best event of the year Christmas Tree Lane. I invited all of you to come and enjoy this specular event. All the info is on the front page of the Bugle. I was happy to support our Leading Knight, Dave Lawhorn and assist with this event. I want to give a heartfelt Thanks to the Udies, Trudy and Judy, for their many hours that they contributed. A big shout out to Irene Imhoff, who happily volunteered to manage the food. And of course, all the volun-teers and donors, who are the bread and butter, to the success of this event.

Happy Holidays to you and your family and may you all make many Christmas memories!!

Merry Christmas Elk Brothers and Sisters:

The Holiday season 2017 is here. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with family and each other. Now that turkey sandwiches and November is over let’s get ready for Christmas. This Month is always one of the busiest of the year. We start out with Christmas Tree Lane decorating on the 2cd and Christmas Tree Lane fundraiser on the 3rd. Doors open at 12:30 pm. Members, we really can use Volunteers to help make this a comfortable and efficient day for all. Please Volunteer by contacting our Chairman, Diana Mondragon 714-388-7404. You will be rewarded. On Thursday 7th there will be an open Lodge meeting for all to attend. It will be an Elks Memorial to remember and show our respect for all those Members who have passed away this year. On the 9th the Orange Coast District Army and Navy Veterans will meet at the Lodge and cheer on their team in the ARMY/NAVY football game. On the 10th is Sunday Brunch. Doors open at 9am and I advise you to come early it is always one of the largest crowds. On the 17th Is the Lodges favorite Christmas Party of all, The Special Child Christmas Party. All the Special Children that have honored us as our Special Child of the Month will attend our Lodge and Santa has a bag of toys for all of them. If you have not yet felt the Spirit of Christmas, then you can’t miss this. It will start at 11am and bring cookies. All Members are invited to our Pot Luck Eggnog party at 11am Christmas Eve.

Well this ends 2017, so join Dona and I in welcoming 2018 at our New Year’s Eve Party on December 31st. May the blessings of the Lord be with you. We wish all a Merry Christmas. Your First Lady Dona and Exalted Ruler Michael

The Holiday Season is upon us and is in full swing. I want to wish everyone a safe and joy-ful Holiday Season. I hope to see many of you at the Eggnog party and Christmas Tree Lane, which are times to get together with friends and family and enjoy the season of giving, shar-ing and caring.

Last month I had the honor of representing the Fullerton Elks along with other Fullerton Lodge Officers and Lead-ers at the State Mid Term Convention in Sacramento. The Mid Term is held annually 6 months into the Elk year to showcase what Lodges have done and get any updates on changes being imple-mented by our Sponsors at the State Level. There are some new requirements being implemented with official notifications being sent out over the next month or so which will be brought to the membership to implement.

Kim and I have been volunteering for Sunday Brunch for the last 4 years, mainly cooking the Sausage and Bacon in the Kitchen. Look-ing forward to next year, Kim and I will be looking to train some new volunteers for cooking the sausage and bacon due to other commitments. If you would be interested in helping out, or find-ing out more about what this entails, please let me know.

displaying the flag, we express our gratitude to the generations past who fought and died for this country, and we remind ourselves of our obligation to preserve for generations to come the freedom that others won for us.

We had our 1st Community Outreach Committee meeting & it was a great success. We came up with some great ideas to more present in the committee. If you would like to be a part of this committee, we meet the 1st Wednesday of every month. However, due to the 4th of July Holiday, Julys meeting will be on the 2nd Wednesday, July 11 at 7pm. Please call or text me at 714-388-7404 if you have any ques-tions.

14 , so come on up , bring some friends and HAVE SOME FUN!

Enjoy your Summer everyone.

Esteemed Lecturing Knight, Andy Konieczny

Greetings;I want to wish everyone a safe 4th of July as we head into the summer months. By the time you get this month’s Hilltop Bugle, Kim and I will be either preparing to go or at the National Convention in San Antonio, Texas. The State Convention was held in San Diego and I was proud to walk across the stage representing the Fullerton Elks Lodge to announce our donation to the CHEA Piggy Bank Major Project which came out to $32.71 per capita. This is made possible by the donations from our members to the Purple Pig. We have some great events coming up this month with my Goal of having more member events up at the Lodge. Saturday July 14th is the Luau Party being chaired by Al Cabrera, Martin McAllister and Candy Valco. By your tickets early so you’re not left out. Saturday July 21st is Summer Sizzle / Cook you own Steak night with Chairman Brian McNamara and Diana Mondragon. These events will only be successful and continue if our members and friends come up to enjoy the evening of fun and friendship.Make sure to look at the calendar pages for planned events monthly and check out the flyers in the Lodge Lobby since events may be added after the Bugle goes to the Editor for publication.“Fidelity is a virtue which should be frequently proved, but not always.” – Omar Sherif Fraternally Yours, David Lawhorn page 3DecemBer 2017 Hilltop Bugle

JUMP ON THE BUS IN 2018 AND HELP THE KIDS

Plan now to attend the 50th Annual California Elks Rally

October 11-14 - Golden Village Palms RV Resort Hemet, California

You don’t have to be a camper or an Elk to attend. Come and enjoy a weekend of food, fun, games, tournaments and just plain old camaraderie while we raise money for the Kids.

The goals of this Rally are for campers, non-campers, family and friends to all gather together for a weekend of food, fun, swimming, games, tournaments and camaraderie, with the final objective of raising money for the California-Hawaii Elks Association Major Projects. Last year we raised a total of $28,602. Our goal this year is to raise even more money for the kids. Come help us, to help them, “Reach for the Stars”. This year will have some awesome new events, vendors and hoping to get an attendance of over 140 rigs.

For more information go to www.elksrally.us or contact our Fullerton Hilltoppers President Clare Johnson at [email protected] or (714) 357-2670 or Rally Wagonmaster Anthony Fonseca at [email protected] or (714) 813-1410. The deadline to register is September 10, 2018.

On June 5 I attended with many others a beautiful memorial for Nick Ortega’s mothers memorial. Some thing was said that struck me as such an amazing tribute that I would like to share it.How Beatrice Ortega lived her life and a “ NANA CHALLENGE” to all of us made by her granddaughter . 1) BEAUTY: Find the beauty in someone and tell them.2) JOY: Create a celebration on a regular day. Celebrate life and love with someone just because.3) GROWTH: Have an open mind to try something new. Try a new food, a new activity, travel to a new place.4) NOURISHMENT: Make someone a meal or take them flowers or another favorite treat just to make them feel thought of.5) LOYALTY: Join someone you love in an activity of their interest whether it is your interest or not.6) UNCONDITIONAL LOVE: Encourage someone in a difficult place. Give a hug, kind words, and reassure someone verbally and written everyday. Her granddaughter has taken up the challenge. How great if we would all take the challenge.Candy Valko

FULLERTON ELKS MAY SPECIAL CHILD, Devin Duran

Fullerton Elks hosted Special Child Devin Daly Duran. Devin is 4 years old now; when he was 2 years of age he was diag-nosed with moderate autism. At that time, he started an early intervention special education program at the local school district.

He works very hard in speech therapy and in Behavior Analysis therapy. Devin never complains about all the hard work he is asked to do.

When Devin is not in school or therapy he goes to church and plays with close friends, and hangs out with his younger brothers, Sean who is 3 years old and Kellen who is only a month old. Devin loves nursery rhymes and his favorite thing is music and singing. He has a joyful spirit and a hardy laugh.

His Great Uncle long time member Gene Shumski nominated Devin. 20 members of the Duran Family came to celebrate the evening.

Gifts were presented by PER Martin McAllister, PER Dan Ca-sey, Past Elk of the Year Cory Brown, new members Dana & Louis Antoline, and past Chair-man of the Board Bob Turner, to the Scott & Katelyn Duran and Sean (3) and Kellen (1 month), along with a gift card to Target for $350 for the family to purchase what they need for Devin and the family.

Respectfully submitted,

MAY 2018 EAST SHORES AND JUNE 2018 SANTA MARIA ELKS RODEO What fun the Fullerton Hilltoppers have been having the past couple of month!! May we were up at East Shores (Puddingstone/Bonnelli Park) in Sand Dimas. Clare Johnson and Ken Meehan were the Wagonmasters for the weekend. Friday evening found us enjoying a Hawaiian Luau feast prepared by the Wagonmasters. Saturday was a day filled with visitors enjoying the hospi-tality of the Hilltoppers with crafts (sand painting) and playing games. The members ended the night with a potluck (no leftovers :( for me as I was preforming at the Follies). The end of May found us traveling up the California Central Coast. We spent Wednesday at the Santa Barbara Elks Lodge. We had a very delicious lunch and dinner. We were pleasantly sur-prised with the full menu they offered at lunch with a “spud” night for dinner. Raffle prizes were won by a few members of the Hilltoppers. Thursday we were up at the Rodeo… need I say more?? Please remember any Elk is allowed to join the Fullerton Hilltoppers at a cost of $25 per year plus camping fees. Every Wagonmaster does something different so there is always a surprise each month. Please check the big board to verify that your name is on the wall. If your total donations have reached at least $100, your name should be there. If not, please let me know. Those of you that have transferred from La Habra please look for your name. I think I have just recently added your names, but double check me as I am still working on it. The other large plaque are for those that have made total donations of $1,000 and more, so please check it. Also as I just added six new names to it as well.

FRIDAY NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT DINNER 5:30–8:00 MUSIC 6:00–10:00

FULLERTON ELKS LODGE 1400 Elks View Lane, Fullerton CA 92836

714-870-1993

.

JULY 6 – PORTER SINGLETARY is the most requested band at Fullerton Elks Lodge. Singing Sinatra to Rock to Motown to contemporary favorites, his resume includes being the house vocalist for many local clubs including Portofinos, Cedar Creek, and M3LIVE Bar & Grill. It’s always fun when Porter’s in the house!

JULY 27 – THE ROCK-ITS “rock us” at our special events, and we’re excited to have them on a Friday! If you grew up in the 60’s, you’ll remember their root band, the “Chan-dells” who opened for Sonny & Cher, Little Richard, and Jan & Dean. We’re always rockin’ with the Rock-Its on the Hill!

JULY 13 – ANDREW MARKS BAND performs all over Southern CA, and it is always a treat to have them “on the hill”. Andrew Marks was a featured performer at Nieuport 17, and is the house band at Kelly’s of Naples and Manhattan Steak & Seafood. They are our “go-to” band for our patriotic events and are “Music Masters” of swing, pop, rock, and Motown.

JULY 20 –THE 5 STAR BAND ‘exploded’ at the Lodge and have rapidly become a favorite “on the Hill”! With several vocalists and a variety of instruments, their assortment of Rock, Pop, Blues, Swing & Country is ALWAYS a delight!

Wreaths Across America

On Saturday, December 16, 2017, Fullerton Elks will have the honor of laying a wreath during the annual Wreaths Across America event. The event started in In 1992, when Worcester Wreath found themselves with a surplus of wreaths nearing the end of the holiday season. Remembering his boyhood experience at Arlington, owner Merrill Worcester realized he had an opportunity to honor our country’s veterans. With the aid of Maine Senator Olympia Snowe, arrangements were made for the wreaths to be placed at Arlington in one of the older sections of the cem-etery that had been receiving fewer visitors with each passing year. The annual tribute went on quietly for several years, until 2005, when a photo of the stones at Arlington, adorned with wreaths and covered in snow, circulated around the internet. Suddenly, the project received national attention. Thousands of requests poured in from all over the country from people wanting to help with Arlington, to emulate the Arlington project at their National and State cemeteries, or to simply share their stories and thank Morrill Worcester for honoring our nation’s heroes.

There are now more than 1,300 participating locations across the United States. The organization’s goal of covering Arlington National Cemetery was met in 2014 with the placement of 226,525 wreaths.

Our local event takes place at Memory Garden Memorial Park, 455 W. Central Avenue, Brea. The program will start at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Seating is limited so arrive early or bring your own chair.

For more information about this program, to donate or purchase a wreath visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org

news of the course

Our tournament for June was held at Jurupa Hills Golf Course in beauti-ful Riverside. It was a litt le slower than usual due to the fact that the Jurupa Hills Woman’s Golf Club

tee’d off just before we did. All-in-all it was a good day and the weather didn’t get to out of hand (most people thought it would get hot). The Golf Course was in good shape

and management did everything they could to make it an enjoyable day once again. Thanks to all who showed up and played. We had a new player join us and we look forward to seeing him again. The more people the merrier. The results were as follows:

1st Place - Team #1 (Don Cullen, Doc Cox, Jim McAtee & Girard Jones) Gross Score 70, HdCp 14.1, Net Score 55.9

2nd Place - Team #8 (Art Pena, Rene Ortiz, Dave Arneson & Bob Muscheck) Gross Score 70, HdCp 14.0, Net Score 56.0

3rd Place - Team #4 (Charles Aita, Steve Sariano, Bev Finnell) Gross Score 71, HdCp 14.5, Net Score 56.5

4th Place - Team #3 (Tom Lemm, Brian McNamara, Tony Duarte, Woody Wood-burn) Gross Score 74, HdCp 14.6, Net Score 59.5

The Fullerton Elks Lodge Past Exalted Rulers Present

September 15, 2018 More information to come.

Greetings Elk Members:

The Emblem Club would like to invite you to participate in our effort to collect clean, de-labled prescription bottles to be filled with products for folks in need. We fill them with laundry soap, lotion, body wash, mouthwash, shampoo, and conditioner. The bottles are re-labled and packaged to control leaks. It was a hit and much appreciated last year when we gave them to a homeless commu-nity. So if you’d like to join the effort, just bring your clean, de-labled bottles to Mariann Aita in the office, Judy Givens, or Brenda Powers. Thanks so much for your donations.
