2nd Woodcote Rainbows

Welcome to our challenge badge celebrating the Wonderful World of Walt Disney!

Our Badge is split into five sections using the various films that the Disney Company have created for inspiration.

You can complete as many of the activities as you like but to help you we’ve added a colour score page at the back so you can keep

track of all the Mickey Mouse icons you have collected. Once you have coloured the page you have completed the badge.

Each activity has a varying number of icons attached to it

depending on the type of activity it is. For Rainbows each icon is worth two icons.

The badge is split into five sections:

Disney Animals Disney Heroes

Disney Princesses Disney Pixar

Walt’s Masterclass

Each section has a selection of activities covering:

Cooking Craft

Education Games

Themed Evenings

We hope you enjoy all the activities and discover as Walt Disney said “Laughter is timeless, Imagination has no age and dreams

are forever”

Chicken Gumbo

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne red pepper

1 (3- to 4-pound) chicken, cut up

1 tablespoon each butter and oil

1 1/2 cups chopped onions

1/4 cup chopped green onions

1 cup chopped green bell peppers

1 cup chopped celery

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 pound smoked sausage, sliced

2 quarts chicken broth

2 bay leaves

2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley

Hot cooked rice

INSTRUCTIONS

Place flour in a cast-iron skillet in a 400 degree oven until the flour turns nut-brown, stirring often.

Combine seasonings and sprinkle chicken pieces on both sides. Heat butter and oil in a heavy Dutch oven or

soup pot. Add a few chicken pieces to the pan cook over medium-high heat until brown. Turn and cook on

other side. Do not crowd the pan. Continue cooking and turning chicken until all pieces are done. Remove to a

platter and set aside. Add onions, bell peppers, celery and garlic to pan, and cook over medium heat, stirring to

loosen browned bits. Add sausage to pan and increase heat to high. Saute 5 minutes longer, until vegetables are

slightly browned and carmelized. Meanwhile, place browned flour in a medium-sized bowl. Gradually whisk

in 2 cups broth, stirring until flour is completely dissolved and no lumps remain. Add to vegetables along with

remaining 6 cups broth and bay leaves. Reduce heat and let gumbo simmer 45 minutes. Do not boil. Use a

slotted spoon to remove chicken from pot. Let cool slightly, then remove chicken from the bone and cut into

bite-sized chunks. Remove and discard bay leaf. Return chicken to pan, sprinkle with parsely and season to

taste with additional salt and pepper.

Edible Mice Recipe (Contains Nuts)

Prep: 20 minutes * Chilling: 1 hour

Makes: 10 to 12 mice

Ingredients:

1 cup creamy peanut butter

1 cup dry milk powder

1/2 cup honey

sliced almonds, for ears

sprinkles, for noses

1 cup cinnamon sugar, or 1 cup white or dark chocolate chips, for dipping (optional)

Mix the peanut butter, dry milk, and honey together in a medium mixing bowl. Roll into

small balls, about the size of a large marble, then pinch into teardrop shapes. At this point,

either leave them plain, or roll in cinnamon sugar. Press a sprinkle onto the point of the

teardrop for a nose, then insert two almond slices for ears. Make the eyes with a toothpick.

You may also press the shape of a curling tail into the back of the mouse using a toothpick.

To cover with chocolate, place the plain balls in the refrigerator for at least an hour to chill.

Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Melt the chocolate in a small bowl in the microwave,

then nestle it in a slightly larger bowl filled with hot water. Remove the mice from the fridge,

and dip them one at a time in the chocolate, allow the excess to drip off, then place them on

the wax paper. Before the chocolate sets, add the nose and ears, using a knife to make a small

hole for the ears in the chilled peanut butter, if necessary. Once the chocolate is set, gently

poke holes for eyes with a toothpick, and if you like, drizzle a little extra chocolate on the

back for a tail.

Makes 16 (2 1/4 inch) squares

INGREDIENTS

6 ounces dark chocolate

6 ounces butter

2/3 cup flour

1 cup sugar

3 eggs

pinch of salt

1 DIRECTIONS

1. Break the chocolate into small bits and melt it with the butter in a pot on very low heat, stirring with a wooden spoon. Remove from heat when all is melted and blended.

2. Let cool for five minutes then mix in flour, sugar, eggs and salt, beating well after each

ingredient. 3. Butter and flour a 9 inch cake pan (Max uses a fluted edged pan for a pretty effect) and

pour in batter. 4. Bake at 375° F for about 20 minutes. Just the edges of the cake should be cooked through

- the center should still be a bit soft. Let cool. This tastes great if you serve it while it is still warm.

What you need:

1/2 cup sugar (or to taste) 1/2 cup water

1 1/2 cups guava juice 1/4 cup orange juice

1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice 1/2 cup pineapple juice 1 teaspoon orange zest,

Grated 1 liter ginger ale, Chilled

ice

Directions: 1 Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and simmer 10 minutes; cool. 2 Combine juices and orange zest in a pitcher and add sugar syrup; chill. 3 Add ice and ginger ale, before serving.
