Romans 12:3-83 For I say, through the grace given to me,
to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
Romans 12:3-86 Having then gifts differing according to
the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

I. Prophecy motivated to Get God across
Forth-telling God’s message of edification, exhortation or comfort (I Cor. 14:3).
“Let us prophesy in proportion to our faith.”
I. Prophecy motivated to Get God across
Proportion is from analogía (from aná, "up, completing a process" and lógos, "reasoning, word") – properly, analogous reasoning, moving from one point of a comparison (up) to the other. The English word, "analogy," is derived from this term. – Isaiah 49:15.
I. Prophecy motivated to Get God across
The Gift of Prophecy is to be operated according to your faith/ability, not trying to use impressive words or hyper-spiritual speech. Call attention to God’s message, not you.
II. Ministry or Service to Make it Happen!
From the Greek διακονίαν (diakonian) - The Greek word for Deaconess. An important wakeup call for those who ignorantly exclude women from leadership by distorting Paul’s teachings.
Applies to men and women as gift of servant leadership..
II. Ministry or Service to Make it Happen!
Being a servant leader – dia (through) konos (dust) – They “kick up the dust” and get it done.
Servant leaders… Get er done! Make it happen.
Formal and informal deacons. Not legislators but ministers to the body
who carry Pastors vision to people.
III. Teaching Motivated to Make Disciples
Effectively communicating the things of God and responsibilities of man.
Effectively teach so people really learn both.
Gift of Teaching isn’t about the acquisition of knowledge; it is about making fruit bearing disciples.
IV. Exhortation motivated by the exhorting power of the Holy Spirit.
Speaking alongside people.Comforting, encouraging, exhorting-
like prophecy to individuals.Exhorting in the power of the Holy
Spirit – The “paraklete” in John 14:26.
Gifted in giving encouragement.
V. Giving motivated with Unfolded- Liberality.
Give liberally – liberally is ἁπλότητι (haplotēti) literally meaning “unfolded”.
Means to keep it simple and not mixed up.
Tithe, offerings, alms. Don’t mix them up.
V. Giving Motivated with Unfolded- Liberality.
Give liberally without taking from other appointed giving. – Ex. - Don’t use tithe for alms.
VI. Leadership Motivated with Diligence.
Leadership literally means “stand before”.
With diligence – literally “fast obedience.”
Make sure you are quick to follow God and not lead people in a wrong direction.
VI. Leadership Motivated with Diligence.
Guard your motivation in leadership. Don’t be motivated by power, money, having your own way etc. Motus operandi- quick submission to God.
Mercy Motivated by Cheerfulness
Mercy that is a gift of Spirit is not merely a highly sensitive or compassionate person – they can be an easy target for manipulation.
The Gift of Mercy - Not simply compassion that can be misdirected or compromised but sensitive mercy cheerfully applied and loyal to God’s covenant – Micah 6:8.
Mercy Motivated by Cheerfulness
Helping people without enabling unhealthy behavior.
Mercy and Justice are not mutually exclusive. The Gift of Mercy brings God’s justice in a tenderhearted way.
Cheerfulness is from ἱλαρότητι (hilarotēti) – hilarious!!!!
Mercy Motivated by Cheerfulness
The Gift of Mercy doesn’t create a burned out, heartbroken giver of mercy. Hilariously be merciful – enjoying that you are bringing Jesus to people and people closer to Jesus.
