The 2020 International Beethoven Festival

PROGRAM OVERVIEWThe 2022 International Let Music Live Festival commemorates humanity’s sacrifice and resilience during the scourge of the global pandemic of 2020, and it honors the power of music in our lives as it resounds in two of the world’s greatest concert halls. With repertoire that provides solemn respect to those who lost their lives, and that enkindles hope toward the future, the Let Music Live Festival borrows its title from the final three words of “The Awakening” by Joseph Martin, which concludes the Festival’s performances. Under the co-direction of Artistic Directors Andrew Crow and Douglas Droste, participating choruses and orchestra will perform in the Rudolfinum in Prague and the Musikverein in Vienna, two world-class, iconic performance venues. The theme of this festival manifests in a third private concert in Vienna’s Peterskirche where the life, works, and memory of American Composer and Arranger, Ed Lojeski will be commemorted with a performance of his selected works. The Festival will feature the opportunity for individual choirs to combine in rehearsal and performance with a select orchestra and soloists. Full or partial choirs, individual singers, orchestral musicians, and non-performing applicants are invited to participate (participation in the festival does not require that a choir tour with a balanced ensemble). Participating ensembles will be provided customized tour itineraries accommodating their scheduled concert performances. A sample itinerary is provided herein under “Tentative Itinerary.” Balanced choirs may elect to arrange additional concert performances under the auspices of the 2022 Let Music Live Festival.

BIOGRAPHY - ED LOJESKI

IN MEMORIAM

Through his arrangements and compositions, Ed gifts us with a part of his own soul and his creative spirit. It is with this in mind that we determine to honor Ed Lojeski as a part of this Festival with performances of his works in Vienna’s iconic and beautiful Peterskirche. We miss you Ed, and we thank you for your many, many contributions to the arts, and to our lives. As you listen now in the company of the Almighty, may you hear us lift you in song as we endeavor this tribute to your life and legacy. With your works that proceed beyond your time with us, we gather today to let music live!

- David DiFranco Owner, Corporate Travel

In 2006, Ed Lojeski joined with Corporate Travel on what would be the first of many festival productions. From the storied stages of venues like the Sydney Opera House and Carnegie Hall to sacred spaces like the deck of the USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor and the Colleville Cemetery at Omaha Beach, Normandy, Ed Lojeski has worked with us to create musical experiences for thousands of performers and their audiences. His discipline and tireless work ethic manifested always in beautiful art and quality performance. In 2020 we lost our dear friend Ed. While we mourn deeply for our loss, we gratefully recognize that our memories are scaffolded by the musical legacy he leaves behind. Artists like Ed are unique in their ability to, through their work, secure some measure of immortality that blesses all of us who mourn their passing.

CONDUCTOR, COMMEMORATIVE CONCERT

Prague, Czech Republic and Vienna, Austria | June 20 -28, 2022

Dr. Will Fisher is Professor Emeritus at Yavapai College, Prescott, Arizona. With a career that spans over 45 years of teaching and conducting, Will is no stranger to the stage, be it in the United States or abroad.

Throughout his teaching career, Will discovered choral arrangements by Ed Lojeski were always in school choral libraries and students loved singing them. While programming Ed’s Let Us Break Bread Together in his first concert, straight out of college, Will had no idea he would have the honor of commemorating the life of this inspirational man some 48 years later in Vienna. Will realized how accessible Ed’s music was for both emerging and seasoned musicians and continued to program his works with increased frequency.

Mr. Lojeski’s music gained increased international acclaim when Dr. Fisher’s Yavapai College Chamber Choir performed Ezekiel Saw the Wheel at the “33rd Concorso Internaz di Canto Coral” held in Gorizia, Italy. Most recently, Ed’s arrangement of Les Miserables received rave reviews when performed in Caborca, Mexico.

Dr. Fisher’s professional association with Mr. Lojeski began with his participation in a Choral Seminar at Sea, directed by Ed. Another engagement saw Dr. Fisher’s involvement in the “Salute to Valor” concert, held in Hawaii. The arrangements of Ed’s patriotic music, sung majestically from the bow of the USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor, elevated the spirits of all in attendance. A memorable experience shared by Dr. Fisher’s students also included the world premier of Ed’s Missa Americana in Carnegie Hall, selections from which will be featured in Vienna. With degrees from the University of Arizona, The University of Northern Colorado, and Northern Arizona University, Dr. Fisher is excited and humbled by the opportunity of sharing with both singers and audience the gift of Ed Lojeski’s music. This magnificent Commemorative Concert is a well earned tribute to Ed and an extraordinary life well lived.

INDIVIDUAL CHORAL & INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMANCES

Balanced choirs and instrumental ensembles may elect to perform an independent concert featuring repertoire of their directors’ choice in a venue outside of the two Festival Concerts. All programs must be submitted for approval by the Festival Artistic Directors. A wide range of venues are available with which to offer exceptional performance opportunities to individual choirs, bands and orchestras. Interested ensembles are encouraged to contact a Classic Performances representative to discuss available opportunities. Possible independent concert venues include: The Haydn Church (Esterhazy), Vienna’s Sofiensaal, St. Stephansdom, Palais Ferstel, Schonbrunn Palace, and Votiv Kirche.

APPLICATION MATERIALSTo ensure a peak artistic performance at all venues and the opportunity for all to experience a once in a lifetime memory, we ask that each director submit a recent audio/video recording of their ensemble along with the Choral and Instrumental Application Form found at the end of this prospectus. This will allow the Artistic Directors to hear each ensemble in order to assign participation in both Festival Concerts in the Rudolfinum and the Musikverein. It will also be utilized to identify ensembles who select to perform in an independent concert in one of the other local venues.

For choral members, please include a video recording of a live performance. This performance should include a music selection that clearly represents your group’s level of proficiency and experience. The length of your submission can be up to 10 minutes in total length. A full camera view of the ensemble and conductor is preferred. The video should be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo and a link should be provided on the application form. For individual orchestral musicians, please submit a one-page resume and at least two uploaded standard orchestral excerpts.
