Mountain walking requires careful planning and using a map and compass is highly recommended. This map gives a good general idea of the available footpaths and itineraries. More detailed maps can be obtained from the IGN (the French equivalent of OS maps) Please note some routes may occasionally be obstructed by snow or inaccessible due to adverse weather conditions. Park in the church carpark.Take the track on the left as far as La Chale. Go through the village as far as the second water trough. Go through the orchard as far as the forest and take the path going downhill. Follow the yellow signposts for “Sentiers des Vergers” and “Vergers de la Bassaltière”. Return by the green path leading to the Les Illets paraglider landing zone. On reaching Landry, turn right, carry on and take the path leading to the church. 3h30 785m/750m Yellow Visit the village of La Chale and the apple museum. A lovely walk suitable for families through old orchards and mountain grasslands finishing at the Grand Verger de Tarentaise with picnic area and info boards. Chapelle Notre-Dame de Tout-Pouvoir 21 D84/Route de Montrigon, cross Montrigon bridge and follow the path leading to the chapel « Notre-Dame de Tout Pouvoir » carry on unitl “Lieu Dit La Ravoir” then continue to Hauteville Gondon. Return via La Ravoire. As you leave the village follow the road to “Le Replatet” and descend to the left following the direction of Notre Dame du Tout Pouvoir. 30mn 810m/910m Yellow Easy path with a panoramic view of the hamlets on the Versant du Solieil. Timetables for guided tours and opening times available from the tourist office in Bourg St Maurice. Vulmix 44 D86 take the road to Vulmix. At the fork near the first building follow the road, cross the bridge, take the track going down to the left, then follow the yellow signs all the way to Vulmix. 45mn 850m/1020m Yellow An easy route leading to Vulmix and the Saint Grat chapel. Chapelle Saint-Michel 45 Start form La Rossiere de Bourg St Maurice or from Le Replatet 1h 850m/1340m Yellow A beautiful circuit to the Chapel St Michel with stunning views of Les Arcs and the Vanoise peaks. (Chapel is closed to the public) Les Cinq Lacs 46 At the Cooperative Laitière roundabout, head for the Cormet de Roseland. After le Chatelard, turn left towards Les Echines Dessus, then Fort du Truc, then follow the vehicle track (narrow and unsurfaced in parts). Park in the Fort de la Platte car park. Return by the same track or by the Les Sapieux valley. 4h A/R 1993m/2530m Yellow A fantastic walk in a magnificent setting surrounded by glacial lakes. 47 Alternative route: Park at the Pont du Moulin and access the “5 lacs” (5 lakes) by Val Sapieux, return by heading for the “Fort de 2000” then head back down in the direction of the Pont du Moulin car park. 5h 810m/2530m Yellow Sentier balcon des Sources de l’Arbonne 6 Start from the La Tuile de Vulmix car park. Head for the Arbone Forrest, the Vogel waterfall, then the Lanceval alpine pasture (boundary marker ONF 87) follow the drover’s road, cross the Nant Blanc mountain stream, then le Chapelet and Le Céré (1800m) Carry on as far as Grand Champ. Turn right across the field to reach the ruined village of Nant. Climb up towards the Chalet d’Echaillon (1482m) After descending for 30 mins cross the Arbone and continue on the forest track. 4h 1304m/1994m Yellow A winding path under the shade of Larch and Spruce trees. The Chappelle Saint Grat nestled within the little village of Vulmix, has spectacular wall paintings depicting the life of Saint Grat, protector of the harvest. Marvelous views over the Upper Tarerntaise valley. > STARTING FROM SÉEZ (N90 TOWARDS SÉEZ) Séez par les Marais 43 Starting from the playground near the Arc-en-Ciel car park, after the bridge take the track on the left towards the Camping Indigo. Cross the road towards the hamlet of Trèves and the Filature Arpin woolen mill. 1h 810m/865m Yellow A walk through the Marais forest between Bourg st Maurice and Séez. Check the notice boards for info on the local ecosystem. Circuit de la Comtesse Cécile 58 Start from the Recluse bridge opposite the campsite at the entrance to Séez. Follow the path “les traces des Ducs de Savoi”, then St Germain on the Roman road by way of the Le Mont Bridge, le Mont Vilaret and Le Cottier. Follow the tarmac St Germain road by the roman road. Head for the mill, leave the road and go left before the water trough and head for the Les Brochères Forrest. Follow the path to the ruins and pass in front of the La Croix de Champ Plan. 2h30 900m/1335m Yellow Keep an eye out for the Moulin de St Germain, the Les Bouchers woods and the village game and wildlife reserve. Sentier des Hameaux 59 Start from the Mairie and go up the rue Saint Jean Baptiste, then follow the signs as far as the secondary road. At the Le Breuil cross, follow the Rue du Moulin. Go as far as the hamlet of Le Breuil, go to the chapel and take the track on the right. Leave the hamlet of Plan David heading for Le Noyeray. Cross the secondary road towards La Ferme D’Angel and head for Le Villard Dessus. Go in front of the Auberge Val Jolie and carry on as far as the rue du Barillon. Return to Séez by following the signposts. 1h30 - 2h 900m/1100m Yellow After Le Noyeray on the right, you will come across a park with deer belonging to a local resident. Sentier des Écureuils 60 Start from the tourist office, take the Les Epinois track to the right passing below the Les Pénitents car park. Go as far as Les Chevres bridge, cross the bridge over to the left bank. Follow the bank of the river Iser, then head for the Auberge de Jeunesse (youth hostel) from the Longefoy bridge. Head for the “repaire des écureuil” (the squirrels hideout) and then climb the path towards the Plan de la Tine forrest. Head downhill towards the Les Chevres bridge. Return by the same route. 2h 900m/1073m Yellow Footpath through the Malgovert Forrest of pine, spruce and larch trees. The river Iser is full of brown Mediterranean trout. > STARTING FROM THE CHAPIEUX VALLEY (D902 TOWARDS VALLÉE DES CHAPIEUX - CORMET DE ROSELEND) Col du Grand Fond et lac de Presset 49 Head for the Cormet du Roseland. From the Cormet du Roseland Car Park, take the EDF road running through the combe de la Nueva. Cross the stream. A mound of stones marks the end of the route. 3h 1967m/2671m Yellow A high altitude trail with fantastic views from the Col du Grand Fond over the Mont Blanc range, the Aiguille des Glaciers, the Nova and the Pierra Menta. Col de la Croix du Bonhomme 48 Head for les Chapieux. From the Les Chapieux car park, take the track starting beside the Auberge de la Nova which winds across the slope. Follow the route to the Chalets de la Raja, and the Chalets de Plan Varraro, then take the Tour du Mont Blanc route. 3h 1550m/2443m Yellow A route through alpine pastures dotted with montagnette cottages and flocks of sheep and cows with stunning views over the Chapieux valley. Lac de Mya 50 Head for Les Chapieux. From the Les Chapieux car park, take the track starting opposite the Auberge de la Nova which winds across the slopes. Follow the route for the tour of the Mont Blanc past the Chalets de le Raja head for the electricity pylon then go left towards the Chalet du Petit Mont Blanc. Follow the track as far as the col. 3h 1550m/2400m Yellow A fantastic walk on the very edge of the Mont Blanc massif on the tour of the Mont Blanc. Stunning views over the Aiguille des Glaciers and the Chapieux Valley. Refuge Robert Blanc 53 Head for Les Chapieux and La Ville des Glaciers either by the Glacier path or the shuttle bus. Park in the Les Lanchettes car park. The track starts to the left of the Les Lanchettes shepheard’s hut and climbs up to the footbridge. Cross and follow the stream towards La Moraine. Turn right towards the red rocks and the refuge. 2h30 1950m/2750m Yellow The Robert Blanc refuge is surrounded by stunning views over the Mont blanc range and the Vanoise. Col de la Seigne 51 Head for Les Chapieux and the Ville des Glaciers either by the glacier path or the shuttle bus. Park in the Ville des Glaciers car park. Take the track starting behind the chapel. Cross the Les Glaciers mountain stream and head for the Les Mottes Refuge. 2h30 1789m/2516m Yellow Stunning views of the Aiguille des Gaciers, the Mont Blanc and the Robert Blanc refuge. Finish at the Italian boarder. > STARTING FROM THE COL DU PETIT-SAINT-BERNARD (N90 TOWARDS LA ROSIÈRE - COL DU PETIT-SAINT-BERNARD) Discovery Trail 25 N90: towards La Rosière / col du Petit-Saint-Bernard. The col du Petit Saint-Bernard car park. The path starts behind the Petit Saint-Bernard Hospice. 45mn/ 2h30 2153m Route exploring the cross-border heritage of the col du Petit Saint Bernard. 3 routes have been laid out to enable visitors to discover the many remains of the col’s thousand years of history: the statue of the Abbey Chanoux, the Chanousia garden, the Cromlech... Located on the legendary “Tour du Mont Blanc”, a route surrounded by breathtaking scenery amongst protected alpine pastures and ancient glaciers, begin- ners as well as advanced walkers can experience this magnificent setting. In order to safeguard this protected site, vehicle access is prohibited (Les Chapieux – Ville des Glaciers). Road closed in July and August, busses are provided during these months. Timetables for low and peak season are available from all Tourist offices and on our website. Col de la Croix du Bonhomme 48 Head for les Chapieux. From the Les Chapieux car park, take the track starting beside the Auberge de la Nova which winds across

the slope. Follow the route to the Chalets de la Raja, and the Chalets de Plan Varraro, then take the Tour du Mont Blanc route. 3h 1550m/2443m Yellow A route through alpine pastures dotted with montagnette cottages and flocks of sheep and cows with stunning views over the Chapieux valley.

Lac de Mya 50Head for Les Chapieux. From the Les Chapieux car park, take the track starting opposite the Auberge de la Nova which winds across the slopes. Follow the route for the tour of the Mont Blanc past the Chalets de le Raja head for the electricity pylon then go left towards the Chalet du Petit Mont Blanc. Follow the track as far as the col.

Refuge Robert Blanc 53Head for Les Chapieux and La Ville des Glaciers either by the Glacier path or the shuttle bus. Park in the Les Lanchettes car park. The track starts to the left of the Les Lanchettes shepheard’s hut and climbs up to the footbridge. Cross and follow the stream towards La Moraine. Turn right towards the red rocks and the refuge.

The stunning natural landscape of Les Chapieux and the Vallée des Glaciers is a crossroads between the Beau-fortain, the Mont Blanc range and the Tarentaise and is a strategically important area between France and Italy. Located on the legendary “Tour du Mont Blanc”, a route surrounded by breathtaking scenery amongst protected alpine pastures and ancient glaciers, begin-ners as well as advanced walkers can experience this magnificent setting. In order to safeguard this protected site, vehicle access is prohibited (Les Chapieux – Ville des Glaciers). Road closed in July and August, busses are provided during these months. Timetables for low and peak season are available from all Tourist offices and on our website.
