A MESSAGE FROM EXALTED RULER, MARTHA BINETTE September 2021 Newsletter “THE 188” The Monthly Newsletter of Portland, Maine Elks Lodge #188 “The Mother Lodge of Maine” Hello to all my Fellow Elks, First as always, I want to thank the members of Portland Elks Lodge #188 for all who have and continue to volunteer your time to help with setting up the rooms, moving tables and chairs, selling 50/50 raffle tickets on Friday nights, collecting money on Wednesday and Friday nights for the Three Card Challenge, selling Queen of Heart tickets, and for supporting our different charities. Please keep in mind that our Lodge runs on volunteers and we can always use your help so please ask where you can assist. As you have witnessed, we have been extremely busy with events recently, A big thank you to Kim and her staff for their dedication and hard work. On Sunday, September 19, our Lodge will have its District Deputy Inspection. All Lodge Officers are asked to be in attendance. All parts of the Lodge and its operations are reviewed by Grand Lodge Officer, saying this, we need volunteers on September 16th starting at 8:00 AM to help clean and organize to get the Lodge ready for the inspection. This means making sure the floors, counters, kitchen, the entire building is as clean as we can make it. Please see Martha and/or Vickey to sign up to help. Thank You! On Saturday, October 2nd, we will finally celebrate Portland Elks Lodge #188’s 130th Birthday/Anniversary!! We are still finalizing the details, so look for news weekly in the blasts or check at the Lodge when you come in to socialize. A couple of housekeeping reminders, the outside door off the kitchen is for kitchen staff only. When the staff are working, it makes it difficult to have members walk through. Please use the member door. Also when you enter the building, do not let strangers or non-members in with you. If you let them in, they become your responsibility. Your card is for you and your guest only. Fraternally Yours Martha Binette, Exalted Ruler Established April 2, 1891

The Portland Elks Lodge is having a Birthday - 130 Years Watch for our Celebration Notices in the Newsletter and Weekly

Blast in the upcoming months. The Portland Elks Lodge #188 was going to be celebrating their

130th year Birthday on April 2, 2021. But because of COVID we were unable to physically celebrate this birthday on April 2, 2021. We are in the process of putting together a planning committee for the celebration. Continue to watch for information each month until we know it’s safe to have a celebration with our members and the other Elk Lodges in Maine. When it is safe, we will share all of the details of the celebration so you can mark your calendars and plan to attend and celebrate with your fellow Elk.
