Co-Presented by The Ad Club and Deloitte & Touche LLP
THE TH ANNUAL ROSOFF AWARDS15
Arnold Z. Rosoff founded Arnold Worldwide in 1946, and made it his mission to increase the focus
on workplace diversity at Arnold and beyond. The creation of The Ad Club’s Rosoff Awards, now
in its 15th year, is part of his legacy.
The Rosoff Awards were conceived to honor visionaries of the Boston business community who
recognize that having a diverse workforce and operating in an inclusive environment can better serve
the needs of a diverse population.
Over the past 15 years, the ceremony has become one of New England’s premier diversity
celebrations, honoring companies with meaningful diversity, mentoring and inclusion programs,
and individuals who have displayed a personal commitment by devoting countless hours to this
important cause.
Congratulations to the 2011 winners for their tireless efforts and devotion to this mission!

Today, as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of The Rosoff Awards, we remember fondly Arnold Z. Rosoff, the visionary behind the award. He would be so very proud of this event and specifi cally our choice of venue.
How fi tting it is to be celebrating diversity in a room surrounded by the work of Dale Chihuly. His work is colorful, exotic, bold and brilliant. Chihuly forces us to rethink all of our perceptions of glass.
As we celebrate diversity tonight and have the luxury of touring the Chihuly Exhibit, I hope we will all be inspired by Chihuly’sbold use of color. And may the winners of The Rosoff Awards this evening stand as tall as Chihuly’s 42 ft. green tree.
We would like to thank our sponsors for making this remarkable celebration possible and thank our committee for their time and dedication to this thoughtful process.
Tonight we honor all of you who are determined to change the face of corporate America, because the only acceptable glass ceilingis Chihuly’s here at the MFA.
Have a wonderful evening.
Sincerely,
Kathy KielyPresidentThe Ad Club

Congratulations to this year’s Rosoff Award winners. It is truly an honor for Deloitte to team with The Ad Club to present this year’s awards recognizing organizations and individuals with meaningful diversity, mentoring and inclusion programs.
In the 15 years since the launch of the Rosoff Awards, the face of Boston has changed. The “Big Dig” transformed the downtown area, making it friendlier and more accessible. The literal face of Boston has changed, too. In the 1990s, only 41% of city residents were ofa diverse background - today that number is 53%.
There is still much work to be done to foster more inclusive workplaces and take advantage of the power of New England’s growing diversity. Businesses cannot afford to ignore all of this talent. They must invest in attracting, developing and retaining top talent of all backgrounds to fuel their growth.
The organizations being honored by the Rosoff Awards recognize the importance of an inclusive environment and have implemented effective programs around recruiting, retaining and advancing talent. Even in hard economic times, Rosoff winners maintain a strong focus on diversity and inclusion because they understand that a more diverse workforce has a measurable impact on their bottom lines.
At Deloitte, we know that our ability to deliver a diverse and empowered workforce is critical to our business performance. Our clients expect our teams to be high performing with a range of perspectives. The global economy requires a broad set of skills and increased innovation to serve the global marketplace. So our work, and the work of Rosoff Award winners, continues.
Congratulations to this year’s Rosoff Award winners. We salute your efforts to change the face of New England’s workforce to refl ectour community.

THE HONOREES
Nixon Peabody LLP is recognized as a Global 100 law firm, with approximately 700 attorneys collaborating in cities across the U.S. and in European and Asian commercial centers. The firm is made up of a diverse group of lawyers and professionals whose demographics mirror those of the communities around the world in which they live and work. Nixon Peabody is widely known for outstanding pro-bono service and a deep commitment to diversity. The Diversity Challenge, launched in July 2010, is a commitment from the firm’s personnel to take specific action in the interest of promoting diversity at Nixon Peabody, particularly to enhance the recruitment, development and retention of diverse attorneys and staff.
Each Nixon Peabody attorney is asked to devote 40 hours annually to a diversity initiative, activity or event. The 40-hour commitment is tracked through time sheets and counts towards the lawyer’s non-billable commitment to the firm. Examples of qualifying activities include: organizing or attending a diversity-oriented event; mentoring a minority, LGBT, or female attorney; working with HR in the development of professional training and
partnership coaching programs; and reaching out to current clients with affinity groups or diversity committees to create joint projects. The Diversity Challenge is believed to be one of the first of its kind in the nation. In terms of the legal industry, they see the Diversity Challenge as an initiative that could be launched in various cities or regions by having Nixon Peabody take a leadership role and challenge other firms to participate.
The Challenge is intended to be a continual reminder that Nixon Peabody attorneys must challenge themselves to be more inclusive and provide equal opportunities for all, so that diversity issues become everyone’s responsibility and not just that of a chief diversity officer or a diversity committee. The Challenge goes beyond everyday activities and is intended to further institutionalize diversity and inclusion best practices in the culture of the organization.

The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEM) serve their communities with the mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character. While the GSEM proudly executes this mission through everything they do, they have extended their own mission to ensure this opportunity is available to all girls in their service area. This means they don’t simply serve the girls who come to them and provide them with leadership building opportunities. They actively seek out the girls who need these opportunities most and bring the programs to them. The FaB Factor program is their latest innovative example of this mission.
FaB Factor encourages girls to discover their inner fabulousness; whether it is her proficiency in math or the ability to speak confidently on important issues. Whatever each girl discovers, she will be empowered to make a difference. FaB Factor serves low-income girls between the ages of 5-17 residing in urban neighborhoods and partners with low-income housing communities, public and private schools and community centers. FaB Factor’s target communities are among those with the highest teen pregnancy rates, where juvenile violence is more likely to take place, where high school dropout rates are worse than the state average and where the population of low-income students is higher than the state average.
The three long-term goals of FaB Factor are to encourage and empower girls to graduate high school and pursue professional careers; to develop a strong sense of self and the ability to make better choices; and to become positive contributors to their community. This effort is preventive, not an intervention for girls after they fall on troubled times. Girls properly equipped with decision-making skills and a support system are less likely to become involved in gangs or to drop out of school.
By continuing with their collaborative strategy of working with many local entities, it is GSEM’s intention to become an integral part of each of the communities served, understanding that lasting relationships are built on mutual trust. To that end, GSEM will become a year-round presence in the life of each girl and her community.

Boston-based Neighborhood Health Plan (NHP) serves 230,000 Massachusetts residents, of which approximately 80% participate in government-funded programs like MassHealth and Commonwealth Care, and 20% are commercial members, typically small businesses in urban settings. NHP is unique among health plans in Massachusetts and across the country in that they actively collect racial and ethnic data in an effort to better serve their diverse membership population.
In 2009, data for NHP members demonstrated that Black and African-American women received breast cancer screenings less often than women of White, Latino or Asian descent. Having breast cancer detected at late stages – or not at all – leads to poorer health outcomes, including early death.
Atypical for a health plan, NHP developed a unique approach to address this issue by creating an integrated communications campaign targeted at Black and African-American women, ages 40 and older, particularly those who live in socio-economically disadvantaged communities. The campaign has strong visual appeal and messaging, and is targeted at a local level to create awareness, education and a call to action in an effort to remove barriers and address the impact that this health disparity has on communities that feel its profound effects.
NHP conducted two phone-a-thons with YWCA Boston in 2010 as part of their overarching mammography campaign to promote awareness and education for Black and African American women, demonstrating how this disease affects their community and how they can get connected to care and services. The phone-a-thons employed a truly multi-cultural approach, with volunteers making calls in several languages including Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese, French and English. This capability enabled the women called to have these critically important conversations in a language in which they were most comfortable, and facilitated outreach to underserved communities.
NHP sees first-hand how health care disparities affect those who are economically disadvantaged and/or physically disabled—specifically with regard to the preventive care services many minority women do not receive—and is truly on a mission to make health care more accessible to women across all ethnicities.
Marketing to a Diverse Audience
Pam Siren is the Vice President of Quality and Compliance for Neighborhood Health Plan. She is responsible for providing strategic leadership to ensure NHP’s compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, the state Medicaid contract, clinical quality measurement and improvement, and NCQA accreditation. Under Ms. Siren’s leadership, NHP has achieved ‘Honor Roll’ status in NCQA/U.S. News and World Report Nation’s Best Medicaid Health Plans and achieved status as one of the nation’s Top 50 Commercial Health Plans two years in a row. In the same time period, NHP earned excellent NCQA accreditation status for both the Commercial and Medicaid products.
Ms. Siren has worked in health care for more than 30 years. She started her career as a nurse in the inpatient setting, and expanded her career to include public health, quality management, evaluation, and compliance before joining NHP in 1999.
Ms. Siren earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Widener College and a Masters in Public Health from Boston University. She is a member of the Health Care Compliance Association and the American Society of Quality.

As a trial firm, we believe winning matters. So whether it’s through partnering with the Cristo Rey High School to provide their students with training and mentorship, or by lending support to the Rosoff Awards, CMJ has remained determined to help others win by achieving their goals.
Since the inception of our Diversity & Inclusion initiative in 1994, Deloitte has recognized that the strength we gain from the diversity of
our talent fuels our growth. Our people are encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work, which allows for more creativity and better
collaboration, enhancing the success of our teams, our inclusive environment, and the careers of all our professionals.
