We’re here to help support you on your faith journey, so you can find

true peace, happiness, and purpose in life. If you would like to join one of

our parishes, contact any staff member, and we will be honored to

officially welcome you home!

New-member registration forms are also available in the church

entrances and on our website.

Please contact Deacon John in the parish office to schedule the baptism and the baptism preparation class.

Congratulations on your engagement! Please contact Fr. Reker at least 6

months in advance to begin preparation.

If you or a family member is homebound or in the hospital and would like a

pastoral visit, please notify the office.

As July begins, I am happy to announce the start of a sister or twin relationship with a parish in Haiti: St. Lucy Church, which is located on Gonâve Island and in the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. The Pastor is Father Harold Francois and you can read more about our sister/twin parish in the insert page of the bulletin. My hope is that there will be regular communication between our two parishes, that Father Francois will one day visit us and that a few of us may visit St. Lucy Church, too. Our financial commitment to our sister parish is 1% of our regular church support, which will be approximately $100 monthly for Holy Family and $300 monthly for St. Joseph the Worker. A few parishioners from both SJW & HF are working with me on developing this relationship; if you’d like to join us, please let me know. The SJW Buildings & Grounds Committee has been working on both short term and long terms plans for our facilities and one idea raised was the possible purchase of the house on the corner of Sibley and Blue Earth (428 Blue Earth Street). We felt that it could accomplish a number of positive goals: 1) provide an improved playground/green space for children of the parish, school and neighborhood; 2) offer greater visibility to our parish from that corner; 3) enable a better entrance to the parking lot from Sibley; and 4) remove liability concerns about the trees raised by our insurance inspector. This week we were able to sign a purchase agreement for this property and have a verbal proxy (or permission) from the Diocese of Winona. Now we will make plans for removing the house and designing an updated playground/green space; the School District will be helping with this improvement and we will also seek input from the neighborhood association. If you have any ideas or suggestions about this project, please let me or a member of the Buildings & Grounds Committee know. I also welcome any gifts dedicated to make this happen. When I turned the corner in front of the Holy Family Church last Sunday, I was disappointed to see that the Pro-Life sign was defaced. Someone had sprayed over the positive message displayed there and spelled out, “Pro-choice.” How sad that other citizens cannot allow a church community to offer its witness to the value of each and every human being, from conception to natural death. A couple parishioners wondered if the stop by a group walking across the country in support of human life prompted a countering action. Whatever the case, our Pro-Life Committee will replace the damaged sign with a new one so that we can continue to be a light on a hill (Matthew 5:14). Quite a backward step taken shortly before our nation’s Independence Day, which highlights the freedoms that are ours, including freedom of expression and religious freedom! Sincerely in Christ,

SJW HUBBELL HARVEST FESTIVAL BIG TICKET RAFFLE UPDATE

Tickets for the Big Ticket Raffle will be sold starting in July.

We are currently working to complete the prize list. We are looking for someone who would be able to donate a new IPAD/TABLET or a FLAT

SCREEN TV to be one of the large prize items for the raffle.

The raffle generates the most revenue of all the events/activities at the festival

and the festival is St. Joseph the Worker Parishes largest fundraiser.

If you are able to donate one of these items or something similar, please

contact Nicole at the Parish Office 388-3766. Thank you!

2) Construct a rectory. There is a

building now in which Fr. Francois

lives, however it is little more than

one room divided up to serve

multiple purposes, one of them

being his residence.

Meet our Sister Parish,

St. Lucy Catholic Church on Gonâve Island

The parish has identified a number of priorities, according to Fr. Francois, chief among them ensuring that the

parish school provides a solid Catholic education and meets and exceeds all educational standards. The

following are three other important priorities that we hope to help with: 1) Construct a school building. Right

now classes are held in two locations - kindergarten classes are held in the church itself (see below), while a

large tent (pictured above) on the grounds of the parish serves as the home of the first through sixth grades.

3) Find the means to pay

the salaries of all eight

teachers. Currently St.

Lucy only has funding to

pay one teacher, so the

eight teachers divide that

one salary among

themselves.

The two images above are of the community gathered for Easter Sunday Mass inside the church.
