THANKSGIVING DAYOur Play

INTRODUCTION (MICHELA)

The Pilgrims were a group of people thatwere separated from the Church ofEngland and wanted to purify it by living

an austere life, doing a lot of hard workand having little fun and celebrations.They were persecuted and decided to leave

England and go to Amsterdam, where

the story was the same. With a lot ofhope, they left Europe in order to start afree life in the New World.

SCENE ONE: ENGLISH HOME

Narrator / Benjamn Bustos:THE PILGRIMS LIVING IN ENGLAND WERE UNHAPPY BECAUSE THEYSUFFERED FROM RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION.

(Julieta and Jos get on stage) Julieta: We cant go on like this anymore!

Jos: I know. We dont have religious freedom, but we have to do what KingJames says. Julieta: I dont understand why the king doesnt allow us to attend the

church we like. Jos: I think we should leave England and find a place where we can worship

God in our own way.

Julieta: I agree with you. We have to talk to other people and see who wantsto join us.(Jos and Julieta get out) Narrator / Benjamn:

SO THE PILGRIMS LEFT ENGLAND IN SEPTEMBER, 1620 ON A SHIPCALLED THE MAYFLOWER WITH 102 PEOPLE ABOARD AND SAILED TO

AMERICA.

SCENE TWO: THE MAYFLOWER

Alessia: Mum, Im hungry. We only eat salty meat and drybiscuits!

Valentina: I know. We have been in this ship for almost twomonthsbut, Im sure that we will soon get off.

Matas: (Pointing to the horizon) Everybody! Look overthere! I can see land!

Other pilgrims: (they are excited. Laughing and shouting)Land, Land, Land!

Valentina: (to the girl) I told you. We are almost there!

Alessia: Great! At last we are going to get off this ship.

(everybody gets out)

SCENE THREE: LAND - PLYMOUTH

Narrator / Benjamn:WHEN THEY LANDED, THE PILGRIMS NEEDED FOOD TO EAT.

Jos Carabantes: Come everybody! We have to look for fresh food (Hewalks around trying to find something to eat, the others follow)

Sofa: Lets get separated to find food

Michela: Yes, I will go this way, and you go that way (showingdifferent places)

Sofa: Its strange that we havent seen any people.

Michela: Im sure there must be natives living in this place!

(they leave)

SCENE FOUR: THE FOREST

Francisca: Hey, look! I have someberries!

Constanza: And Ive found some seeds!Dad and mum will be happy!

Francisca: Great! Lets go back to thevillage.

(They continue looking for food. Thenthey leave)

SCENE FIVE: THE VILLAGE

Jos Ignacio: Its cold. Everybody put on your heavyclothes!

Lucelia: And lets protect our children! Consuelo: Yes, we need to be warm. Im not feeling fine.

Narrator / Benjamn:MANY OF THE PILGRIMS BECAME ILL.

Renata : (To Lucelia) I feel sick, mum

(Josefina appears crying) Josefina: Can somebody help me? My husband is dying! Sofa: Oh no this is terrible. Life here is very difficult!

(All people get out)

SCENE SIX: THE VILLAGE

Benjamn:ONE DAY A KIND NATIVE CAME TO THE VILLAGE.

(Jos Ignacio gets on stage with other pilgrims. Then the Indianchief appears)

Indian Chief/ Rafael: Hello English man. I want to offer myhelp. Jos Ignacio: This is a miracle! Welcome to our village. We

really appreciate your help. Matas: How is that you know our language? Indian Chief/ Rafael: I learnt it from English fishermen. Narrator/ Benjamn:

SOON MORE INDIANS CAME TO THE VILLAGE.(Some natives get on stage: Sole and Catalina) Sole: We can show you how to grow your own food. Jos Ignacio: Please, tell us how.

Catalina: These are corn seeds (she shows the seeds). This ishow you plant them. (she shows the way to do it)

Narrator / Benjamn:

AND THE NATIVES SHOWED THE PILGRIMS HOW TOPLANT CORN, AND WHEAT, AND OTHERVEGETABLES.ONE OF THE NATIVES WAS CALLED SQUANTO.

(Squanto gets on stage: Felipe) Squanto/ Felipe: We want to be your friend. We also

want to teach you how to hunt and fish.

Rafael: We will hunt quail and turkey. Come! Lets go tothe forest!

(All the people on stage walk around doing arm movementsof hunting and looking for food. All the people get out)

SCENE SEVEN: LONG TABLE

Narrator / Benjamn:THE NATIVES HELPED THE PILGRIMS.THEY TAUGHT THEM HOW TO SURVIVE BY HUNTING

AND GROWING CROPS.WHEN THE SUMMER ENDED, THEY HAD A FEAST.

(All characters get on stage, put some food on the tableand sit around)

Jos Ignacio: Now that we have a lot of food and newfriends, its time to celebrate!

Julieta: Yes. Lets give thanks for all the wonderfulthings we have.

Narrator /Benjamn:AND EVERYBODY GAVE THANKS.

Felipe: Were thankful for meeting new friends!Jos Carabantes: Thanks for finding natives who

helped us! Consuelo: Im thankful for our friendship. Renata: Im thankful for my parents. Sole: Thanks for the harvest! Catalina: Im thankful for the nature!

Everybody: Thank you, Lord.

Narrator/ Benjamn:

EVERYBODY ENJOYED THE CELEBRATION.THAT WAS THE FIRST THANKSGIVING DAY.

(Everybody gets out of stage)
