New stories on GardenHomeHIstory.com:

New stories on GardenHomeHistory.com include:

History of the Alpenrose Dairy.

The story of Theophilus E. Hills who served in the Civil War, lived in 2-story blue house south of

Garden Home-Oleson intersection.

Wonderful historic photos of the Aaron Frank farm, including horses, barn, and layout.

Crescent Grove Cemetery Tour

We enjoyed our May 21 tour of early Garden Home pioneer graves at the Crescent Grove Cemetery. A

beautiful day, four guides reviewed the histories of over two dozen of our brave pioneers, most of whom

came out on the Oregon trail. Thanks to all our volunteers and tour attendees!

We Welcome New Businesses in Garden Home:

Garden Home Market: We’re getting used to the new name for Lamb’s Thriftway, purchased in 2016 by the

Bales consortium. Sometimes called Lamb’s Garden Home Market. Same store layout, new and improved,

big wine section. Garden Home Growlers at the entry and the liquor store, US Post Office, Wells Fargo

bank, florist continue. Mike Babbitt is the manager. Colin Lamb continues to own the store building and

the mini-mall.

Local Leaf: The Local Leaf store is located on the second floor of the Dugout bar and restaurant, in the

historic Garden Home Feed and Seed store of the 1950s. This building is notable in old photographs

because the second floor did not have a roof for many years and was open to the weather. Local Leaf

features a museum of vintage marijuana memorabilia items and colorful posters. Owners Matt Ford and

Matt Bailey welcome visitors.

Nerds on Call: In home or at business computer repair, free estimates. Formerly located on Barbur

Boulevard, now at east end of Lamb’s mall. All types of repair, advice, home visits, customer training,

online support, and technical support. 1-800-919-NERD. CallNerds.com

Coopers Dog Training and Behavior Modification: on the west end of Lamb’s mall at 7374 SW Oleson Road (in

former Used Books space.) All types of classes and private appointments.

Buy2: at the intersection with the Shell service station, formerly Plaid Pantry. Food, snacks, drinks, Metro

PCS cell phone service.

Bulldog Deli: Opening soon in the former Baskin Robbins space in the Lamb’s mall.

Library Annex: at the north end of the Lamb’s mall along Oleson Road. The Garden Home Library and

other community groups host a number of programs there. Most activities publicized on

GardenHome.NextDoor.com or on the library website. Contact the Garden Home Library for more

information. 503-245-9932.

Facebook: Ginny Mapes has created a facebook group about Garden Home History. She edited the student project, Garden Home – the way it was which was published in 1980 by the Beaverton School District. Ms. Mapes was the librarian at Garden Home School and then moved on to Greenway School where she and Jill MacWilliam authored another book, Traces of the Past, about the history of that area and included more stories on Garden Home. Both of these books are available for in-library use at the Garden Home Community Library and they both can be checked out through any Washington County Library (with your library card). facebook.com/Garden-Home-the-way-it-was-881298175303220
