Reminder: Business Courtesies

The Federal Government regulates the

extension of gifts (business courtesies)

to potential referral sources (Physicians),

and their immediate family members.

Business courtesies include meals, en-

tertainment (tickets), doctor’s day gifts,

flowers and other types of recognition.

Gift cards and gift certificates are con-

sidered “cash equivalents” and may not be

offered to physicians! The hospital cannot

base the extension of business courtesies

on the number of referrals or value

of services provided by a physician. They

cannot be solicited by the physician. As re-

quired by law, each facility keeps a log of all

business courtesies provided to a physician or

family member. Coliseum Health System val-

ues its relationship with its physicians and con-

tinued compliance with appropriate laws.

The American Diabetes Association recently performed a site visit for CMC’s Diabetes Self-Management Education program (DMSE). Carole Radney is the Coordinator of CMC’s DSME program, and through her hard work, dedication, and passion, CMC has once again been granted approval to continue our program. Our mission states that above all else we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. Continued support of the program by the American Diabetes Association is a testament to Carole living the mission each and every day.

This education event was a group effort including assistance from Education, all the Quality Management staff, the Managers from all departments and EVS.

• Heather Gillin, CMC Lab, recently passed her Medical technology exam

• From Bridget Denzik, CMC CNO and Ronda Sweet, CMC ACNO: We would like to extend a huge thank you to our nursing leaders and especially to our charge nurses for attending the Nurse Leader Boot Camp. Since our boot camp, multiple charge nurses have been doing nurse leader rounds to include the weekends. The rounding on the weekends is so critically important to our patients. This rounding facilitates communication with our patients and their families to help us improve the patient experience and overall patient outcomes. Our mission statement is “Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.” The charge nurses were highly engaged in the boot camp and came back with “fresh eyes,” a renewed focus, and much enthusiasm. Our charge nurses are such a valuable part of our team and we could not move forward without their dedication and commitment.

We are very excited to be upgrading our Cath Lab on the 2nd floor!

However, due to this construction, we need to change and control traffic down our back hallway to the cath labs and OR.

Unless it is emergent to get to and from the cath labs or the OR, please do not use the back hallway on the 2nd Floor. Thank you!
