It may have been this necessity for being able to hear many things at once that contributed to Emile’s unique style of arranging. If you listen closely, you will hear a great many things going on at the same time, yet you will never lose sight (or, shall we say, sound) of the melody. The melody, in this metaphor, would be what he, the composer, would be saying – obviously the most important part of the musical conversation. So there you have it: a style that emerged from a desire to communicate meaningfully to a large number of people against all odds! The only other thing you need to know about this show is not to take it too seriously. Emile wants you to sit back, and enjoy some great tunes in a relaxed – and, sometimes silly – atmosphere. So, please, join in the spirit of play as you listen and laugh with Emile Pandolfi.

There are few things in life that Emile Pandolfi likes better than playing the piano. However, some of the things that come close are: laughing, spending time with friends; and, like all true Italians, sitting around the dinner table with everyone talking at the same time – at a pretty high volume, and with a good deal of passion, by the way – a practice which (according to Emile) eventually evolved into what we now know as opera. “Opera was the natural outcome”, says Emile, “of wanting to be heard over the din of your relatives, each of whom had something very important to say at precisely the same moment.”
