On Jan. 8, First Friday at First Presbyterian will present pianist Emma Parrish from 12:05 to 12:35 p.m. at the church at South 4 th and Ash Streets, and it is free and open to the public. The program will range from classical to ragtime to jazz and contemporary. It will include the Chopin “Nocturne in e minor,” “Magnetic Rag” by Scott Joplin, “Children’s Songs, Nos. 6 and 7” by Chick Corea and “Comptine d’ete, Nos. 1 and 3” by Yann Tiersen, who produced the soundtrack for the movie “Amelie.” Parrish, the daughter of Steve Parrish and Carrie Mann, grew up in Sterling and has played the piano since age six as a student of Elsie Fetzer. She was very active in musical competitions throughout high school. Emma attended Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., where she completed her bachelor’s degree in English and History in December of 2015. Throughout college she was very involved in theater, both acting and directing. She spent one year studying abroad at Queen’s University Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She plans to attend graduate school in the fall, studying English with an emphasis in Children’s Literature and Fairy Tales. Emma will return to Belfast for the spring semester to volunteer, take classes and do research. She has been invited to present a paper at the Authorship and Appropriation Conference in April at the University of Dundee, Scotland. Her subject is the appearance of the Welsh Arthurian legend, retold to become an Irish fairy tale. First Friday at First Presbyterian is an ongoing series of recitals showcasing local talent. The form looks very legitimate and very professional and has all of the information for your house purchase; address, sale amount, purchase date, year built, square footage, parcel number, all of this information is public record so it is very easily obtained by these companies from the county land records. The letter also informs the new buyer that for $83 they can provide the new owner with a copy of their current Grant Deed and they recommend all Colorado home owners obtain a copy for their records. Please do not fall victim to this scam.
