Thank you to all of our Home Show Sponsors and Ven-
dors; another great home show in the books!!
March, it’s a month and a verb and it’s here! It’s supposed to come in
like a lion and leave like a lamb. Well, the winds have been blowing and
they are blowing in folks who are running for office. And speaking of
blowhards, I don’t have to tell you the importance of exercising (I know
we are way past the New Year’s resolution threshold) your Right and Re-
sponsibility to vote. And with that comes the responsibility to study who
is on the ballot and where they stand on important issues. Don’t be a vote
guesser, be a vote professor and know who, what, when, and where to
vote. When you get to the polls, they show you how. So it’s Super Tues-
day, go and make the founders proud.
Hopefully the ones who win office will remember the words of the great
Roman Statesman Cicero, “The higher we are placed, the more humbly
we should walk”, but I doubt it.
On with the business at hand. We had a great first meeting and a great
crowd in February at Larry’s Pizza. Remember, our meetings are still at
Larry’s, the 2nd Monday of the month, which is March 14th this month,
hope to see even more at this meeting. We will have great fellowship and
glean some worthy knowledge to boot. So see you on the “Ides Eve”.
Also, GFSAHB Mason/Barr Scholarship applications must be turned in
to Stephanie by March 4th, no exceptions.
Which that brings up the fund raising Golf Tournament for this cause,
May 13th at Ben Geren, gonna be a great event, get to swinging and put
your team in ASAP. We are still, looking for a 2016 Show Case Home
supervising contractor. Be sure and seriously consider this opportunity,
you can be the Hero of the Day for the local HBA.
You know, my fellow members, we just had the 2016 home show and I
want to thank all the vendors and hope their booths boosted their bottom
line. “Attention, home show exhibitors and patrons”, oops! Sorry having
announcing flash backs. Want to thank Stephanie for bulldogging this
home show, her dedication and attention is much appreciated as well as
her home show “homies” Kirby and His Committee, great job. Thanks to
Breeden Dodge for presenting and they have already signed up to present
again in 2017. Thanks, Dean! Also thanks to First Bank Corp. for man-
ning the gate and counting the dough. Thanks, Western Arkansas Title
and SWBC mortgage for providing the Oasis of the exhibitors lounge,
everyone on concrete duty all weekend appreciated it. Thanks, to all the
Schools that participated in our first annual student competition. It was a
great event and we all learned a lot and it promises to be even better next
year. It was great to see future potential carpenters and hear the sound of
swinging hammers. Thanks to them and their teachers and parents. Also,
great gratitude is extended to Lumber One for providing the material
for this event, it was a huge investment and all should thank them heart-
ily. Also, thanks to Specialty Wood works for providing parts and piec-
es for the cabinet competition. To Waco Title and Ft. Smith Board of
Realtors thanks for your involvement and sponsorship as well. To all
the judges, the folks that put up dollars for prizes for these events, the
trade’s folks that came to talk to these youngsters about future careers
during our career fair, thanks to you too. Congratulations, to Northside
High, for winning both events, it was close over some stiff competition,
but the Grizzlies pulled it off!!! We also had a great Lego event on
Sunday, where many future builders came out and showed their talent
with the greatest toy in the world, great fun…
Well, folks if I don’t stop writing it will be April. As I always say, I’m
ready for Spring sales and winter wasn’t much, and that’s fine by me.
Spring begins at 5:29 am March the 20th. Let the Sales begin!! The Lo-
cal HBA is a happening place and let’s keep up the good work. Associ-
ate Council, thanks for your hard work as well. So folks don’t got too
“Mad with March” and remember what’s important on Resurrection
Day. Heart beats are finite, but consciousness is forever…this month’s
secret word is “Cicero”…

A message from the AHBA President 2016 [Brandon Tedder]
Wow…..time is flying in 2016 as spring approaches. I want to take a moment to thank the
membership for allowing me to continue to serve the AHBA this year as your President.
We will be sending out a message from the President each quarter, ideally within a couple
weeks after each Board of Director’s meeting so that we can share upcoming events and
keep you abreast of what the AHBA is working on. Through your efforts, we will succeed,
no matter what faces us.
The future format of these messages will likely change into more of a newsletter and also
be posted on the AHBA website. I will be reaching out to committees for input on
newsletter content, as well as a special report from Build PAC, State Rep, and our
Locals/EO’s.
Below is a small snapshot of your AHBA and what we are up to.
The International Builder’s Show (IBS) in Las Vegas had record attendance and
positive vibe. The economic outlook is good for Arkansas with smaller growth
continuing!
We are still in the clutches of the legal system with regards to the AHBA’s complaint
against Mrs. Mills and hope to have a resolution and/or clear direction before
summer.
The search committee for the vacant EVP position is narrowing in on a select few
candidates for interviews. We have reached out on a local, state, and national level
to get a well-qualified pool of applicants that we are sifting through.
There is not a legislative session this year, so lobby efforts die down a bit. However,
the AHBA is part of a new idea = The Arkansas Construction Coalition which is
comprised of the AHBA, the Associated General Contractors (AGC) and Associated
Builders and Contractors (ABC). The goal is to unite forces and present a powerful
lobby on behalf of the construction industry.
Take Housing Home. The AHBA is making plans to meet with our elected officials,
including national delegates to the U.S. House and Senate, letting them know
about issues we are facing and how they may be able to support the efforts of the
AHBA and NAHB.
The Board of Directors recognizes the formulation of a new committee for 2016,
dedicated to the Energy Code and managing its effects on members throughout
our state.
NAHB is working through the “Waters of the US” and the AHBA has been able to
provide and file a brief in Arkansas to that end. Currently, the rules are not in effect.
Other committees have had a chance to meet and are moving forward with
momentum, especially our Associates Council who has been engaging your local
EOs and tackling a myriad of issues, including membership initiatives.
Electronic Voting. Your local EO has been sent information on how to engage local
inspection departments and align them with NAHBs recommendations via an
electronic voting opportunity. Small areas can make a big impact with votes on
future code enhancements.
We have a connection! NAHB as a federation, breaks down into Areas before going
to the individual state level. We are in area 8, along with Mississippi and Louisiana.
We are looking forward to forming friendships within our area and will likely have
a meet and greet event this year and hope to have future collaboration within Area
8.
NAHB has put boots on the ground in the form of field representatives. These
individuals are our link to NAHB. They can help roll out programs, trainings, provide
information, and otherwise assist the AHBA in its efforts
As you can see, there is a lot going on with our association and I am truly excited about the
AHBA and our potential this year. I want to thank you all for your dedication to the
homebuilding industry! I would also like to give a special thank you to the board and our
executive team for all that you have done and are doing to help push the AHBA forward.
Please feel free to contact me directly at any time using the information provided below. I
work for you this year and want to help facilitate initiatives that our members are involved
in. If I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting you, I look forward to the opportunity….as
I plan to tour the various local offices this year.
Thank you again for supporting the AHBA,
Brandon Tedder
