SEARCH COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS JOEY FUSON TO JOIN MINISTRY TEAM I hope you were at church Wednesday to meet Joey Fuson, our candidate for Associate Pastor and Minister to Youth. Joey spent some time Wednesday with youth and their parents, the Personnel Committee, and the larger church family. It seems clear to me that Joeys gifts and passions are well suited to serve FBC Greenwood, and FBC Greenwood is well suited to help him use his gifts and grow as a minister. Collapse the previous sentence into one word, and the word is compatibility. That is always the goal of a search process, and I think our committee has discovered just that. This Sunday, February 23, we will have a called business meeting immediately following morning worship to vote on the Search Committees recommendation, which has already been approved by the Diaconate. THANK YOU, SEARCH COMMITTEE! The Associate Pastor and Minister to Youth Search Committee has been: Hillary Craigo, Chair Lew Dorrity, Vice-Chair Kirsten Neufeld, Secretary Brady Bagwell Robbie Boone Vaughan Free Thomas Kirby Nancy Poston Nan Smith Lydia Turner Richie Williams The Search Committee included youth, youth parents, the Youth Committee Chair, the Personnel Committee Chair, the Stewardship Committee Chair, active and inactive Deacons, and at large members of the congregation. Unless you have been part of a search committee, its hard to realize how much time and energy goes into the process. The committee evaluated the job description, advertised the opening with a dozen partners and agencies, collected resumés, evaluated the resumés, held phone interviews, held video interviews, talked with references, held face to face interviews, and finally identified Joey as the candidate they wanted to recommend. It is the nature of ad hoc committees that after their task is complete, they disappear from view. As Joey serves and thrives at FBC, however, we will be reminded of the good work of this committee and the gift they have given to our church. A SNAPSHOT OF GENEROSITY As you know, it takes a while to close out the fiscal year. I am now able to give you a snapshot of our churchs generosity in 2019. You gave $1,004,923 to the Ministry Plan (formerly known as the Annual Budget), which was 97.3% of the projected total. Meanwhile, staff and committees did a great job holding down expenses, which totaled $920,365. The bottom line is that giving was in excess of expenses by $86,058. Whats more, you gave over $40,000 to Advent Conspiracy, Global Missions, State Missions, and other missions causes. Thank you, First Baptist Church, for being faithful stewards and generous givers! What a wonderful way to be the heart and hands of Jesus!

It seems clear to me that Joey’s gifts and passions are well suited to serve FBC Greenwood, and FBC Greenwood is well suited to help him use his gifts and grow as a minister. THANK YOU, SEARCH COMMITTEE! The Associate Pastor and Minister to Youth Search Committee has been:

The Search Committee included youth, youth parents, the Youth Committee Chair, the Personnel Committee Chair, the Stewardship Committee Chair, active and inactive Deacons, and at large members of the congregation.

Unless you have been part of a search committee, it’s hard to realize how much time and energy goes into the process. Special Music by the Jean O. Wood Handbell Ensemble

Anthem: “At the Cross” Chancel Choir

The season of Lent is quickly approaching. Ash Wednesday is February 26. The Chancel Choir is preparing music to be presented on Palm Sunday, April 5. This year the choir will present Portraits in Grace, the same cantata from last year. This year the presentation will include a visual component, portraits, that will illustrate the scripture and the words of the music. The portraits will be banners similar in style to the banners that have illustrated the new church logo. There will be eight portraits displayed during the cantata. After the service the portraits will be placed around the church to facilitate further reflection on both the picture and scripture. I appreciate Cindy Lindahl’s assistance with the portraits.

Question: “What does a Minister of

Administration Do?”

Recently I was asked a very basic question - “So, what does a Minister of Administration do?” As I stammered for a reply, several questions were raised in my head. “Which of the thirty plus bullet points of my job description do I emphasize?” “Which of the numerous projects I oversee are the most important to share?” What I discovered in that moment was it is hard to define what a Minister of Administration does at any specific point in time. As I glance across my desk, I see eight different projects that need my attention this week. These projects include:

• coordinating two weddings in March by securing sound technicians and church hostesses.

• assisting our Financial Assistant, Linda Miller, and Rhonda Cox of Cox Accounting Solutions with the 2018 and 2019 Compilation Reports.

• ordering Offering Envelopes for 2021.

• assisting the Property Committee with various projects.

• proofing church publications.

• leading Cheerful Cherubs Chapel.

• scheduling calendar events.

• preparing for a new staff member.

• assisting the Diaconate Ad-Hoc Roof Committee.

• answering questions about the Edgewood Cemetery and Mausoleum.

Therefore, the next time I am asked “So, what does a Minister of Administration do?” my answer will be… “It depends on the day!”
