Nursing Home Worship
We conduct the worship service on Sunday, June 10, 2 pm at Tendercare. Come and bring the joy of the Lord to our friends!
Annual Salad Social
Join the members and friends of the Community Church for the Annual Salad Social in the
church dining room on Friday, June 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A time of fun,
delicious salads will be provided by the ladies of the Community Church for an $8.00
donation at the door. Join in for lunch and fellowship!
The chairwomen of the committee will be calling the women of the church to ask for
kitchen help and salad donations. If you are not called, please consider donating a salad
and/or volunteering your time for this special event.
Sunday, June 10th we will recognize the recipients of this year’s scholarship awards. Refreshments will be served at coffee hour in honor of these students.
Annual Church Picnic
Our church picnic is an event you don’t want to miss! Coming Wednesday, August 8th, join everyone for fellowship, food, fun, and the Salt City Dixie Jazz Band for entertainment. Mark your calendar, or put an appointment into your smartphone calendar now, so you don’t double-book the date: August 8th starting at 4 pm.
Invite guests! The more the merrier. If you need a ride, we’ll have volunteers available. Call the church office, 843-9275, to make arrangements. We have the picnic shelter at Sutton’s Landing reserved, so this is a rain-or-shine picnic.
Thank you, John Clement, for 16 years of service to the Lord and leading our music program. You have been a blessing to the
choir, bell choir, and our entire congregation.
We wish you well as you do all those things
you have always wanted to do, but never had the time. Hit ‘em straight down the fairway too!
Join us after worship on June 3rd for a brief celebration of John’s service to our church.
God’s Blessings- Community Church
Thank You, John Clement!

Encouraging Words!
Please take a minute and read Philippians 4:4-9 and, if
you have time, read all four chapters of this short encouraging letter.
Paul is writing (from a prison in Rome) to the churches in Philippi, asking them to stay steadfast in their faith and to stay united in their purpose (the purpose being Jesus Christ and His Gospel). Paul thanks them, encourages them, and reminds them of what it means to live in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Paul is writing to exhort, that is to spur on, and to encourage the faithful in Philippi. He’s reminding them that they have been saved through Jesus’ sacrifice and to put their confidence in Him, and not their own flesh or their own ability to obey the law of Jewish ritual. We can’t please God through ritual, but we can worship, honor, and please God through our lives and our efforts spent on sharing our lives with others and helping the poor.
Paul writes from the heart – he really has a love for the people of Philippi and he encourages them to be in proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus (Philippians 1:14). He tells them they will face rejection, but that is okay;
(Philippians 1:27). Think about this in light of where Paul is writing this letter from. He himself is being imprisoned for his faith, for his proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus. He is saying to us: Stop worrying about things, stop quarrelling about things – God has our back. Look at each other and other people and look out for their interest first – consider other people’s interest above your
own. Be humble in the Lord – as a church follow my advice says Paul. Don’t give up, don’t quarrel amongst yourselves, stay the course and remember your purpose – the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He tells us to rejoice (Philippians 4:4), Rejoice in the Lord always! Paul is rejoicing and he is in chains – think about that – we can rejoice in every circumstance. That only happens though when we are constantly seeking the peace of Jesus Christ.
What a blessing words like this can be in the most difficult of times. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7) I’ve experienced this peace personally in some of the most difficult times in life – when loved ones were dying, jobs lost, children very sick, uncertainty in family, life, and the church, and even God keeping me humble in the best times of life.
God wants us to live in this peace always. Paul says in verse 8 of chapter 4 to think about these praiseworthy things and then everything you’ve learned and seen from him (Paul) and from Jesus Christ – then put it into practice. When this happens, the peace of God will be with you.
Please take time to read these words and think about them – talk with your prayer partners about them – then let us apply these words to our lives!
Grace, Peace, and Encouragement from the Word of God!
Pastor Brett

Two very familiar faces at our worship services and Diane and Dave Swathwood – always a smiling, friendly greeting from both. Dave often opens one of the church front doors when we arrive
and Diane ushers us to our pew seats.
Did you know that Diane and Dave were high school sweethearts? They started dating as Juniors in high school at the prom. Both were born and raised in Grand Ledge, Michigan, and they both came from families of five children. Dave and Diane are both the eldest children of their families.
For the first three years of their marriage, Dave served in the U.S. Navy. His first job after that was for a vending company. He then became a meat cutter and was promoted to management when they moved to Ludington. After that, he worked in maintenance at Oakview Medical Facility, and was the supervisor at the time of his retirement. He continues to serve on the Department of Health and Human Services board. Diane’s career was mostly in accounting, and she retired from Mason County Road Commission.
The Swathwoods raised three children – two married daughters and husbands: Denise and Jay Sherman, and Janet and Rodney Davis. Their son, Bobby, left this earth to be with Jesus when he was just 10 years old.
Their grandchildren are Courtney Sherman, Justin Sherman, Dr. Meghan and Dr. Tyson
Austin, Jacob Bentz, and Blake Bentz. Also, they have a great-grandson, Abe Austin.
Dave and Diane have been attending Community Church for about 37 years. As they started “church shopping” in Ludington (they were Methodists), they found Community Church to be so friendly and they felt so comfortable, that they stopped shopping and stayed! One of Diane’s retirement goals was to volunteer more at church, especially with the altar guild. David has served as a deacon and has been on the church council. Diane is currently a council Elder.
They share “custody” with a poodle named Truffles and enjoy visiting their grandchildren’s pets also.
Other interests of Dave and Diane include the America Legion, where Dave is the Financial Office and Membership Chairman, plus he serves on the Honor Guard. Both Diane and Dave are active in the Masons and Eastern Star. Diane enjoys the Ladies Tuesday Morning Bible Study and also the Emmaus Walk. Both like to be spectators at sports events, too.
Favorite Bible Scriptures are John 14:2 – “In my Father’s house are many mansions – if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” and John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever liveth and believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
Thanks Dave and Diane for all you do for our church and our church family!
