Prayer as an act of Co-Creation with God: The Kaddish
We pray to create: This is the message of the Kaddish. A central prayer for Jews with many variations, Kaddish is recited in Aramaic, the common language of the time of Jesus. Scholars have long noted the likelihood that Kaddish was a direct source for the Lord’s Prayer.
Kaddish is recited during mourning, though there is not one word about death or dying in its texts. It is also used to bless teachers and students and their study. It is used as a refrain
to mark the movement toward different parts of the Jewish service. Every word of the text is praise for the Creator, praise that overflows heart and soul. The rabbis say that by reciting the Kaddish we tap into what is divine in us in order to co-create the world. This session will focus on the act of prayer as an act of engaging with God’s creation.

America’s Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege, and the Bridge to a New America
IT’S TIME FOR A NEW CONVERSATION & ACTION ON RACISM
7 pm Thursdays - through July 6th America’s problem with race has deep roots, with the country’s foundation tied to the near extermination of one race of people and the enslavement of anoth-
er. Racism is truly our nation’s original sin.
I believe that, together, with other churches, we need to consider this sin of racism in our community and in the workplace, and search for ways to be a part of the solution.
Members from other churches and their pastors, incuding Reverend Peter Bynum, First Presbyterian; Reverend Carol Carkin, Central United Methodist; and The Reverend Nancy Cox, All Saints’. Each will lead one of the sessions during the series.
Grace Lutheran and St. James Lutheran are joining us in this community-wide conversation. All sessions will be at 7:00 PM at All Saint’s Episcopal Church. Books are available for $11. Contact: Chuck Collier at [email protected], for more information.
Please join me in having conversations about this important issue. - Chuck Collier

Update on The Path & Learning Circle
We are making excellent progress on The Path. On Saturday, June 3rd, we had a terrific crew to install the hardest part of a retaining wall, including a gravel and perforated pipe drainage system. Then, we began a lot of weeding and removal of heaps of clay from the excavation. It was tough work laying the first layer of blocks and being sure they were level while also adjusting for the slope of the ground from low to high. I would like to express my gratitude for the hard work from a great group, which includ-ed my neighbors John and Kathy Oliver, Ian, Sabrina and Hamilton, Tina Luckey, Ben Smith, John Cline, Don Foskey, Shelly Williams, Len Witke, Janet Hollopeter, and the ev-er faithful John Deere.
This weekend we expect to finish the retaining wall and spread gravel in the Learning Circle and the Path.

Kenyan Mission Trip
Lane Erickson, who grew up in this parish, is going on a mission trip with Global Village Ministries to Kenya in July (http://www.globalvillageministries.org/.) There are twelve on the team, but they can accommodate more.
It is primarily a medical mission trip but non-medical volunteers are needed as well. They will primarily be working The Olmaliaka Home, a home for young Maasai girls.
If anyone has an interest in joining the team, assisting with donations or would send notes with encouragement and prayers, please contact Jo ([email protected]) or John Erickson ([email protected].)
I am Sue Gelarden and I have been a member of All Saints’ for nineteen years. I grew up in Cabarrus County and went to a Lutheran Church. As an adult I became Episcopalian.
Unfortunately, I was never able to have children. Therefore, All Saints has become my family.
I recently retired. Professionally I was a Vocational Rehabili-tation Case Manager. I worked with people with disabilities and helped them return to work.
During my time at All Saints I have been very involved in many different ministries. I have been touched by many, many people. All Saints is a special place.
I am very excited that I plan to become a Mentor for Education for Ministry (EFM) beginning in September. EFM is a rewarding experience through reading, study, and discussion to grow and learn in ministry. It does require a commitment, but it is worth it! If you have any interest, call me at 704-933-5683.
