THE NOXHELM MURDERS SYNOPSIS In a quiet, foggy town in an unassuming neighborhood known as Misty Oaks, there is a sinister force

lurking within the walls of what the town calls Ripper House. Built on an ancient burial ground in the 1920’s by The Butcher of Noxhelm, the house has claimed over a hundred lives with some of the bodies said to have been buried in the crawl spaces. Visitors claim to have witnessed lights flickering, doors slamming, and other

unexplained incidents. But one thing is for certain - whoever owns the home is doomed for despair, destruction, and death.

Ben and Brenda Biggs are the new homeowners of 203 Moorgate Street, and have invited the neighborhood over for a housewarming party. They seem like a nice couple, which is shame.

You were invited. This is where your story begins.

LIST OF PLAYERS FOR THE HOST 10 required (5m, 5f), and 6 optional (3m, 3f)

REQUIRED OR

OPTIONAL GENDER PLAYER BRIEF BIO

SUGGESTED ATTIRE

REQUIRED M FRANK WALKER

ARCHITECT

Frank Walker lives down the street from Ripper House in the most modern house in the

neighborhood. He’s an architect, married to an adoring wife with two sons – one biological, and the other a stepson. Frank is intolerant of people and often starts wars on social media. However, he’s

socially active and won’t allow there to be a gathering in the neighborhood without him.

Trendy, designer attire. Frank is rich & arrogant – let your attire reflect that.

REQUIRED M JOHN JONES

REALTOR

John Jones is the deceitful realtor for Jones Realty in the town of Noxhelm. John has sold the Ripper House

over five times to unsuspecting couples. Each time, he fails to disclose the property’s history of murder and mayhem to the buyers. For that reason, the townsfolk think he’s a con artist. He doesn’t have

many friends in town.

Cheap, polyester suit.

REQUIRED F TABATHA GILL

RETIRED

Tabatha Gill lives next door to Ripper House. The neighborhood gossips refer to her as a witch, for she has wind chimes made out of human hair and teeth

hanging on her porch and chants spells at her neighbors. Tabatha is one of the prior owners of

Ripper House, and for some reason, she lives in the tiny house next door.

Flowing shirt/dress.

Any props to make you look like you are a

witch.

REQUIRED F MARCY BLACK

HOA PRESIDENT, MISTY OAKS

Marcy Black is the tenacious HOA President of Misty Oaks. Ripper House is smack dab in the middle of the neighborhood but is not governed by the HOA.

This infuriates Marcy, as the house at 203 Moorgate Street does not look like it belongs in the surrounding cookie cutter neighborhood. Marcy would do anything

to have the place torn down.

Business casual attire.

REQUIRED M MAYOR PAUL

EVANS MAYOR OF NOXHELM

Paul Evans is the spiteful mayor of Noxhelm rumored to accept bribes for political favors. Paul would push

his granny out of the way if she were blocking something he desired. Paul is married to a police

officer and has two daughters – both known for being highly narcissistic and selfish. Like the saying goes -

like father, like daughters.

Business casual attire.

REQUIRED F BRENDA BIGGS

HOMEMAKER

Brenda Biggs is new to the town of Noxhelm. She is just getting used to the dense fog that plagues the city 250 days per year. Brenda dotes on her only daughter

(Merry) and prides herself on her gourmet cooking skills. Brenda has gained an interest in selling jewelry out of her home and has been planning a huge party with the release of The Ruby Collection. However,

she’s had trouble getting people she’s met in town to RVSP. She hopes the housewarming party will help

her make friends in the neighborhood.

Homemaker/housewife

costume.

REQUIRED M BILLY THOMPSON

CROSSING GUARD

Billy Thompson is a crossing guard for the neighborhood of Misty Oaks. Billy is one of the prior owners of the Ripper House. Billy is also a former

dentist. Since living in the house, he has changed into an entirely different person, as if the house drained

his life force. A shell of what he once was, Billy is now estranged from his wife, Tina. Some say the house is what broke up their marriage. Brenda was excited that

Tina also agreed to come to the party, as nobody in town has seen her since the breakup.

Crossing guard vest over casual

attire.

REQUIRED F VIOLET GILL

unemployed

Violet Gill is a gloomy soul who is always seen moping about with an intense sadness in her eyes. Violet is the daughter of Tabatha Gill, but the two

haven’t spoken in years. Brenda was glad that Violet agreed to attend the party with her mother there, and

she hopes to kindle a friendly reunion. Violet has befriended Merry, the Biggs's only daughter, and

hangs around Ripper House on occasion.

Gothic attire inspired by Wednesday

Addams.

REQUIRED M BEN BIGGS PEDIATRICIAN

Ben Biggs is a pediatrician and has just opened a new medical practice in Noxhelm. He is fresh out of an internship at the Mayo Clinic and is ready to settle

down in the foggy town of Noxhelm. Ben got a fabulous deal on Ripper House, but he is concerned with the rumors he has heard about the place since

his family arrived here with moving trucks. Not one to believe in the supernatural, Ben is struggling to keep

a positive outlook and cheery demeanor.

Doctor costume.

REQUIRED F TINA THOMPSON

PSYCHOLOGIST

Tina Thompson is a child psychologist and the estranged wife of Billy Thompson, a crossing guard in the neighborhood of Misty Oaks and former dentist.

Tina is upset with Billy for giving up his lucrative dental practice in town. Tina and Billy lived in Ripper

House when their marriage was torn apart. Tina hopes the Biggs family can hold it together in the

house of doom. Tina agreed to attend the housewarming party but has made no promises that

she would speak to Billy.

Business casual attire.

OPTIONAL M DETECTIVE SHOCKLEY

HOMICIDE DETECTIVE

Detective Shockley has worked for the Noxhelm Police Department since 1993. He is always on call

and starts work every day at 6 AM. The detective is a workaholic who claims that a neat desk is his pet

peeve. His motto is We speak for those who have lost their voice. Detective Shockley endured a great tragedy years ago when a car struck his wife and killed her. People closest to the detective say that

now, his work is all he holds dear in life.

Detective/ police officer

OPTIONAL M MACK MORGAN

ATTORNEY

Mack Morgan is the underhanded criminal defense attorney in the town of Noxhelm. Mack will do

whatever it takes to get his client’s charges dropped – even if it means breaking the law. Mack is a known

ambulance chaser and has deep connections in town with unsavory individuals. Mack has a teenage

daughter who is dating the biological son of Frank Walker, but Mack would do anything to break them

up.

Business attire – a dark suit.

OPTIONAL M DON WALKER

STUDENT

Don Walker is a nerdy student at Noxhelm High School. Don would rather study astrophysics than socialize with friends. Don’s geeky appearance has

garnered him negative attention from his classmates. However, his biological father is the infamous West

Coast Slasher, currently on Death Row. Don’s appearance is identical to his father’s, so the students at school stopped teasing him when news of this got out. They believe if Don and his murderous dad are

indistinguishable besides being 18 years apart in age, maybe their behavior will be, as well?

Nerd costume. Frizzy blond wig, glasses,

bow tie. Optional to wear a fake cast on your

dominant hand.

OPTIONAL F MS. HAYES

ENGLISH TEACHER

Ms. Hayes is the flamboyant English teacher at Noxhelm High School. She is quite memorable, as she wears scarlet lipstick and ‘50s-inspired dresses

and hairstyles. She is currently teaching In Cold Blood by Truman Capote to her senior literature class, and that’s all she wants to talk about with anyone. This

teacher is obsessed with murder.

‘50s style dress, red

lipstick, and a ‘50s inspired

hairstyle

OPTIONAL F EVELYN EVANS

POLICE OFFICER, NOXHELM P.D.

Evelyn Evans is the meddlesome police officer for Noxhelm P.D. She’s a beat cop but aspires to be

promoted to a homicide detective. For this reason, Evelyn often spies on people at the station in hopes of hearing something she can assist with to impress the chief. Evelyn will do anything to get promoted. She is

married to the mayor and has daughters – both known for being selfish narcissists.

Police officer uniform.

OPTIONAL F MERRY BIGGS

STUDENT

Merry Biggs is the daughter of Ben and Brenda Biggs. She was unhappy with the move here from

Rochester, Minnesota, where her dad completed his pediatric internship at the Mayo Clinic. Merry quickly

made a best friend with the youngest Evans daughter, but she is still having problems adapting to her school routine and classmates. The school counselor blames

her adjustment issues on the Ripper House. Merry doesn’t disagree.

Teenage attire of any kind.

Host Instructions GENERAL HOSTING: during the party, your job as the host is to make sure the rounds flow correctly. As the host, you may choose to play any character you wish. You will pass out the clue cards to the guests at the appropriate times. As the mystery progresses, check on your guests to see if they are discussing the clues and implementing tasks on their clue cards (some players may have tasks). Encourage them to mingle with the other players, and not to rush anything. It’s all about gossiping and sharing secrets! They should speak to every other player at least once during each round. Your guests are playing a character role, so they should embrace their character’s lack of integrity and motives. With that said, if you opt to do the optional money challenge, you can instruct the guests to hold back secrets for money (see the bonus activity instructions for more details).

GAME STRUCTURE: the game is organized into four rounds and is structured as follows: OPTIONAL PRE-GAME STARTER: these optional pre-game tasks are to be delivered to each guest before the party, or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional. They are intended to enhance the build up for the event. These tasks are not vital to solving the mystery. Also, encourage your guests to view the Your Mystery Party guest pre-game website to get them excited about your game (this is highly encouraged). ROUND ONE: Deliver the round one clue card envelopes as your guests arrive. It is optional to serve cocktails for adults and appetizers. ROUND TWO: Deliver the round two clue card envelopes. It is optional to break for dinner either before or after this round. SOLUTION ROUND THREE: Deliver the round three solutions. It is optional to serve coffee/hot cocoa and dessert.

Don’t host a party without some type of food/beverage offering - hungry guests are not happy guests.

Example Timeline 7:00 PM: Guests arrive. Take guest photos and serve refreshments. Have the invited guest list available for the guests to view as they trickle into the party. Once everybody has arrived, snap a group photo!

7:10 PM: The host goes over the guest instructions for the mystery game. It is optional to have each character stand up and introduce themselves to the group. You can play the game trailer video for an introduction.

7:20 PM: The round one clue cards are handed out, and the game begins. The guests mingle and discuss the clues on their clue cards. Motives will start to unfold during this round.

7:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played.

8:05 PM: An optional dinner is served. Snacks can be served throughout the party instead.

8:35 PM: The round two envelopes are handed out, and the guests mingle about with their pre-murder clues.

9:00 PM: The victims are revealed, and the investigation of the crime begins. The mystery investigation sheets are handed out, and the guests interrogate each other (using the post-murder clues). Each guest should interview every player in the game.

9:15 PM: The forensic report is revealed.

9:25 PM: The investigation sheets (guesses of whodunit) are turned in to the host. After the sheets are collected, the guests may take turns accusing who they believe did it.

9:45 PM: Dessert and coffee may be served at this time. The round three solutions are handed out to the guests. Each player presents their solution, and the murderer confesses at the end. Allow a few minutes for the guests to mingle at the end to discuss the mystery.

10:15 PM: Another optional bonus game may be played &/or host an optional awards ceremony!

To shorten the mystery party, omit the bonus games, don’t stop for dinner, omit the accusation round, and don’t host an awards ceremony. Also, you can shorten the game even further by only having the required players read their solutions (or even just the murderer). If you wish to extend the length of the party, add more bonus games!

Optional Pre-Game Task Cards Character B PRE-GAME TASKS

OPTIONAL - FOR SOME PRE-GAME FUN, CONTACT THE FOLLOWING GUESTS BEFORE THE PARTY:

Contact the guest playing Character H and say you will make it your life’s mission to see to it that Ripper House gets torn down. It is bringing down the property value of the homes in Misty Oaks. It is unkempt, and the neighborhood folks claim it’s haunted, and bad things happen there. (Contact info :__________________________________)

Contact the guest playing Character V and say if she puts one more ‘witchy’ spell on you while you are jogging, you’ll shoot her with a pellet gun in the eye. That’s a promise. (Contact info :__________________________________)

Contact the guest playing Character T and say you are ready to ally with her to get rid of Ripper House. You cannot believe that Character K sold it again to buyers who had no idea of the history of the property! Also, you realize Character R’s place isn’t governed by the HOA, either, but maybe you can report her to the city for something. Her shack house needs to be condemned – it’s an eyesore. Round One Cards

Character W ROUND ONE CLUES TO REVEAL

• You dislike the town of Noxhelm as it is so foggy, most of the time you can’t see a foot in front of you. The people aren’t that nice, and many are weird. Your neighbor lives next door and her creepy porch faces the side of your house. There are wind chimes made of human teeth and hair that hang from it, and she chants spells at your house all day. She wants you as a go-between with her daughter, but it’s annoying! She doesn’t want to speak to her mother!

• Character A is one of your best friends but she’s older than you, and very depressed. She isn’t that fun to be around. You’ve made best friends with the mayor’s youngest daughter, and she’s pretty nice, but you still don’t like being here.

CLUES TO CONCEAL • This house is haunted. You’ve witnessed countless

acts of paranormal activity, but your parents claim they don’t have money to move, and you’re going to have to make it work. Your mom has become increasingly hostile to you, and your dad is talking about closing down the medical practice he just opened - for no reason other than he just wants to stay in bed. These are not your parents. This house is changing them into something dreadful! You have to convince others to talk your parents into leaving this place!

• You admit you‘ve had some feelings you’ve never had before. You become furious when your parents say no.

Round Two Cards CHARACTER Q ROUND TWO

PRE-MURDER CLUES Being around Character S is dredging up old feelings of

hatred. You wanted to kill Character S for many years, but you are an officer of the law and swore to protect and serve. You want to see Character S behind bars.

You’re about to go to your police cruiser to check in with the station. You haven’t heard anything from them, so you want to be sure your handheld radio is working.

Speak to Character J about what happened with her psychology practice. You used to hear about how wonderful she was and how many people she helped during their darkest days. Then, ask her what happened to her husband – and why are they not on speaking terms?

Tell Character B you heard about the scuffle between him and Character K. You think it was big of the Biggs (no pun intended) to invite Character K here to makeup and become friends. It’s not entirely Character B’s fault – the stress of moving into a new home is real.

POST-MURDER CLUES BLOOD TYPE B- About 20 minutes before a body was discovered, you

went outside to your police cruiser to check in with the station. Everything was good, so you decided to stay at the party.

There is a small spot of blood on the drapery cord that was used to strangle the victim.

The murderer was in great physical shape to pull off a murder like that.
