WelcomeIt is my great pleasure to invite you to the Clarenbridge Oyster Festival 2010, a tradition 56 years a growing! Clarenbridge nestles on the banks of the Clarin River at the mouth of Dunbulcan Bay. Enriching tides flow throughthe estuary and under the arches of an old stone bridge. Our native oysters are harvested from the surrounding shallow seas, protected from the worst of the elements and nurtured by local oyster-men with generations of expertise.
The Festival marks the beginning of the new Oyster seasonand we welcome you to join in the celebrations, rejoice inthe energy and above all savour the Clarenbridge Oyster, an annual ritual since our first festival in 1954! So much has changed since that first festival yet our philosophy remains the same. The Clarenbridge Oyster Festival is acelebration of the native Oyster, of the history of our beautiful village and of a vibrant and modern day community respecting its heritage.
I am most grateful to the people of Clarenbridge, the voluntary festival committee, our many sponsors andfriends and you our guests – it is your encouragement, commitment and support that preserves’ our unique event.
It is my hope that you will enjoy the 2010 festival and continue to savour the oyster heritage of Clarenbridge for many more years to come.
As we say in Clarenbridge.. the world is your Oyster andClarenbridge is its’ home, Bi linn and bain taitneamh as,Anne FordeChairperson
