Ford Parish Council.Extract from the Draft Minutes of Ford Parish Council meeting. For the full Draft see
www.wooler.org.uk/ford-pcTuesday 16th January 2018 at 7pm in Etal Village Hall..Members present Cllr Baker - Vice Chairman, Cllr. Bell, Cllr. Cuddigan, Cllr. Turnbull , Steve Taylor - Clerk3. Apologies
for absence – Apologies were received and accepted from Cllrs. Keating, Mills, and Beattie.7. Defibrillators. Cllr. Mills has reported via email that the cabinet for the Defibrillator has arrived and he has been in touchwith Ian Ainslie who has reaffirmed that he will fit the unit to Ford Post Office. The Clerk will contact Ian Ainslie forconfirmation of installation. Cllr. Cuddigan will apply for funding for a defibrillator for Heatherslaw from the BarmoorWindfarm fund. It was suggested that he contact John Pentland for guidance on this as he has recently done this for Crookha8. Playground As reported at the last meeting Cllr. Baker informed the council that they have received £9063 from the BarmoorWindfarm Fund for the additional play equipment in Ford. He tried the Community Chest but this is not open to applicationsfrom Parish Councils. Cllr. Lawrie has agreed to give £1000 to the project from his County Councillor fund. Cllr. Baker has alsoapplied to ASDA and the Big Lottery fund but these applications can take 12 weeks to be processed. If unsuccessful he will askCAN if they can suggest any funders who may be able to make up the shortfall. In the meantime Cllr. Baker proposed that theproject could be started by installing some new play equipment with the money currently available to the council. Councillorsagreed to this proposal. Cllr. Baker then explained that of the four quotations received from Playdale, Spacial Integrity,Caledonia and Sovereign, Sovereign were in the middle price range and he proposed to councillors that they should be thecompany to go with. With the money already received, two items of equipment could be obtained along with matting. The thirditem could be installed at a later date if funding can be obtained. Sovereign have suppled accreditations and case studies and allthe equipment is to BS 1176 and BS 1177. All councillors agreed to this proposal.Cllr. Baker will meet with the Sovereign representative to start the process. He will confirm that the quotation is still valid. There will need to be a pre-install inspection and then the groundwork will need to be carried out by Ford and Etal Estates asagreed previously. Sovereign will require a 20% deposit followed by a further 30% when the work starts with the final 50% duewithin 30 days of completion. Cllr. Baker will ask the Sovereign representative what they can offer in the way of a maintenanceand inspection package.Cllr. Turnbull thanked Cllr. Baker for all his hard work on this project. All agreed.9. Street lighting. It was agreed that the clerk should ask Lynsey Sawyer from the Northumberland LED Street LightingModernisation Project what type of lighting they were going to install in Ford as currently most of the lights are of a HeritageLantern style and this style need to be kept. The clerk will also enquire whether there are any plans to increase lighting in Fordand if not, what is involved in asking for an extra light.10. Ford notice board. The clerk suggested that instead of purchasing a new notice board for Ford to increase the capacity fordisplaying posters, the PC could move one of the Parish Council notice boards from Crookham and place it alongside theexisting one in Ford. Crookham Hall now have their own notice board so leaving one of the old ones for the Parish Councilnotices should be sufficient. His was agreed and the clerk will contact Crookham Hall committee to inform them of thisdecision. Cllr. Baker and Turnbull will help the clerk to move the notice boards. Some thought will also be given to make thenotice boards easier to open.13. Monthly Tourism report. Cllr Baker told councillors that the next tourism meeting was later this week. He also commentedthat it was very good news that the Black Bull Pub renovations have begun and that the opening date is planned to be sometimein May. This will be great for the area.14. Highways. Cllr. Bell commented that the repair to one of the inspection holes made on Ford Bridge during the recentmaintenance work has already started to deteriorate.18 Any other business Cllr. Baker suggested that the council should consider making a donation to The Fourum when thecharitable donations are considered at the next meeting in March. It was agreed that this should be considered.19. Date of next meeting –13th March 2018 in Crookham Village Hall at 7pm.
The Parish Council currently hastwo vacancies. If anyone is

Bicentenary of Louisa, Lady Waterford’s birthdayApril 14th 1818 to 2018
This year is a very special year for Ford. On April 14th it will be two hundred years sincethe birth of Louisa, Lady Waterford, who lived at Ford Castle from 1860, following thetragic death of her husband, Henry 3rd Marquis of Waterford. Lady Waterford did much toimprove the living conditions of the local people and built the school, now called the LadyWaterford Hall. Her most lasting legacy are the murals decorating the walls of the Hallwhich she painted between 1862 and 1883 and which visitors from home and abroad cometo see and admire. She died at Ford Castle in 1891 and is buried in Ford churchyard. Hergrave is a Grade 2 listed monument, a recumbent Celtic cross and headstone carved by thefamous artist and sculptor, George Watts. The community will be celebrating the occasion in a number of special ways over theweekend of 14th and 15th April, including a schools’ art competition, a flower festival inFord Church and open days at Ford Castle where there will be exhibitions about thearchaeology and history of Ford, and the life of the castle and estate from the time of theWaterfords to the present day. Over the weekend admission to all venues will be bydonation, raising funds for the future upkeep and maintenance of the Lady Waterford Hall,Museum and Gallery (Registered Charity no 248898).At Lady Waterford Hall if you would prefer a guided tour rather than a freelance visit, theGuides will conduct two daily tours, at 11.30am and 2.30pm on each day. After each tour, for those interested, the Curator will lead a short walk by Ford Castle to the grave of LadyWaterford (weather permitting). On the evening of Sat 14th April there will be a celebration ceilidh and local craft supper atthe Lady Waterford Hall from 7pm – 10.30pm led by the professional band ‘CopperCeilidh’ from Edinburgh. Tickets at £14.00 are on sale at the post offices in Ford and Etal.(Please book early as there are limited places). For further details please visit the Ford and Etal Estates website. www.ford-and-etal.co.uk
