Ang Simbahan wala lamang nagasabat sa espirituhanon nga pangkinanglanon, kundi nagabulig man sa pagpatigayon sang kaayuhan sa lawas sang bug-os nga tawo. Dilaab Foundation rejects Chairman Brillantes’s recent pronouncement to voters which goes: “Accept anything that is given to you, but don’t vote for the one who gave the money. Maybe that should be the rule.” By encouraging such behaviour, the chairman actually seriously compromises sectionb261a of the Omnibus Election Code (i.e. “prohibited acts – vote-buying and vote-selling”). This promotes tolerance for and condoning of bribery by encouraging voters to be bribed in exercising their constitutional right to vote, regardless of the intention of

the pronouncement.What is further alarming

and dangerous is that this may encourage poll officials like canvassers, election inspectors, and COMELEC deputized law enforcers, who are targets of bribe money, to accept bribes from candidates for as long as they do their duties. But under the influence of money, how can one properly perform his obligations?

We would like to think the Comelec leader is well-meaning and probably thinks that by encouraging voters to act this way, those who buy votes will eventually be discouraged due to opposite results. This view has serious flaws though. For most, “getting the money but voting according to one’s conscience” means giving in to the highest bidder. “Utang

Sounds familiar? Amo ini ang ambahanon nga ginapatukar sang mga volunteers sang aton Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) samtang sila nagalibot sa mga kabarangayan kag nagapanagtag sang Voters’ Education Guide. Ini bahin sang aton pagsigahom nga mangin matinlo, mapatihan, husto, makahulugan, kag mahidaiton ang palaabuton nga eleksiyon sa Mayo 13.

Apang ining mga hilikuton naton sa Simbahan sa tion sang eleksiyon, kon aton pamalandungan sing madalom, napasad sa aton pagtuo nga ang aton Santa Iglesia Katolika may misyon sa pagbantala kag pagtukod sang Ginharian sang Dios sa aton tunga. Ining ginharian amo ang ginharian sang gugma, kamatuoran, hustisya, kag paghidait. Kon tubtob karon may

74. Ano ang kahulogan sang ginkakaupdan sang mga Santos?

Amo ini ang ikaduha nga bahin sang ika siyam nga artikulo sang “Nagatuo ako”. Ang ginkakaupdan sang mga Santos amo ang paghiliusa sang tanan nga nagbug-os sang ila pagtuo kag paglaum kay Kristo kag nahiusa sa Iya paagi sa bunyag, mga patay man sila ukon mga buhi. Tungod kay Kristo nahimo kita nga isa ka lawas kag nagakabuhi kita nga nagahiliusa bisan diin, sa langit man ukon sa duta. (CCC 946-962)

Pinalangga nga bumalasa, sa pagsugod sang bulan sang Mayo tugoti ako ninyo sa pagpaathag sang bahin ni Maria Santissima sa aton kaluwasan kag kon diin sia nahamtang sa Banwa sang Dios.

Si Maria iloy sang Dios. Paagi kay Jesus nahiusa sia sa aton sa isa ka pinasahi, pinakamalapit kag walay katapusan nga kaangtanan nga mahimo sang isa ka tawo. “Sang makita ni Jesus ang iya iloy kag ang iya hinigugma nga gintuton-an nga nagatindog

77. Ginasimba (worship) ta bala si Maria?

Ang Dios lamang dapat simbahon. Ang pagsimba amo ang paghatag sing walay kondisyon sang pagkilala sang pagkagamhanan sang Dios labaw sa tanan. Si Maria isa lamang ka tinuga katulad sa aton. Apang sarang naton mahatag sa iya ang mataas nga pagtahod kag paghangad. Sia amo ang aton espirituhanon nga iloy sa pagtuo. Bilang iloy tahuron naton sia katulad sang aton pagtahod sa aton ginikanan. Ang iya ngalan balaan.” (Lk. 1:48-49).

Gani, ang Simbahan may mga “shrines” kag mga duog sang “pilgrimages”, may mga piesta, pangamuyo, pagrosaryo, Flores de Mayo, ambahanon, kag iban pa nga mga debosyon sa pagpadungog kay Maria nga aton Iloy (CCC 353, 484).

Patay na ang akon duha ka ginikanan. Ang akon iloy napatay duha lamang ka tuig matapos ang pagtaliwan sang akon amay. When I was 12, all I could actually grasp about such renowned quote from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is that the words which were used sound great. The combination of words makes you feel that, somehow, though you really can’t comprehend the line, the quote is still meaningful and deep. As time went by, however, I came to understand the quote and reflect on it when “the inevitable” happened again in our family – death. My grandmother who was already 87 years, 4 months, and 28 days old died.

Honestly, Lola “Meling” has truly been close to me, my siblings and cousins mainly because ever since we were very young, she was already constantly keeping an eye on us whenever our parents still had to attend to some work. She had been my instant taga ingat-yaman at times when I tried to save money, because I couldn’t depend on myself to keep them safe under lock and key for too long.

Furthermore, I remember her being my usual taga-pungos and taga-sugat during my younger years.

Ah, it’s so nice to reminisce, isn’t it? True enough that the past is a wonderful time to reflect on. Death has usually this kind of effect on me. All memories of a person just immediately flood my mind especially when he or she has already left. I really come to value that person even more when he or she’s already gone. Sad, but usually it is true to me, you and most of us, which then makes me think that perhaps our beloved departed have this motto: “If someone can’t appreciate your presence, let them appreciate your absence.”

These things are just few of the many insights about death or simply leaving our loved ones, and there’s still one important realization which I really want to highlight about the matter. This idea somehow crowded my ever inquisitive mind after carefully thinking about leaving those people

dear to us: Perhaps one thing about leaving is letting those people close to us feel at ease – at peace. Yes! It does give us peace! Just like what Jesus said to His disciples in the Gospel today, “Peace I leave you. My peace I give you”, somehow I feel that death among the members of our family seems to actually emit that inner peace within us knowing that our loved ones can already be free of the burdens of this life and can live blissfully with the Father. Somehow, the anxiety that life brings to us at times, and the constant worrying for our loved ones who may be in pain or suffering is immediately cast out from us once God already wants him or her to join Him in His heavenly kingdom.

Moreover, that peace which I’m referring to may also be that feeling you will experience the moment you start to let go of the past and move on – that feeling which seems to be the breaking of another dawn for us – start of

Death, though something most people are frightened about, can still be a beautiful and natural phenomenon in our lives if we only have the will to accept the truth, and the optimism to believe that things happen for a reason. Let us never frustrate ourselves with the obstacles that come our way; rather let us always think that with Jesus’ peace - which He shared and has given us in today’s Gospel - will always be inspire hopefulness in us for better things to come our way.

to corrupt the electorate? How can one make the “right choice” after committing a “wrongful and unlawful act”? This is twisting and distorting our people’s values.

The Elections is a battle between good and evil, as a ranking PNP official describes it. Vote buying is evil for it destroys the value of honesty and numbs our consciences. We cannot and will never allow evil to reign. Corrupting voters and condoning corruption is evil. The tree is known by its fruit. A dishonest and corrupted electorate produces dishonest and corrupted government and leaders.

If we wish to have a better and honest government, let us start by ensuring a fair and honest electoral process

and electorate. Dilaab and its partners – in its I Vote Good campaign - strongly urge Chairman Brillantes not to surrender but to face the challenge with hope and courage that change can happen and evil can be overcome. We invite all Filipinos to respond to the clarion call to reject vote-buying, bribery and corruption during elections, and to restore and uphold honesty in exercising our right of suffrage through freedom from bribery.

Expensive gifts are rare. They are usually there on special occasions – weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas, and graduation days, which are cherished and always remembered. We are always anxious to receive them and guard them as treasures to be cherished and to be kept as souvenirs of a lifetime.

Alone in our house one day, I sat in front of the icon of God the Father, which is on our altar, studied His features and meditated on His love and care which was manifested in His creation of us, His children. I was concentrating on His generosity and His love for us by sending His only Son, Jesus, to suffer and die for us so that we can be with Him in heaven after our earthly existence.

As I was meditating on God the Father’s concern for us, the weather became very hot. There was no movement among the leaves of the trees and there was no sign that the climate would change. I then remembered that perhaps we don’t use God the Father’s gifts to His satisfaction. Do we use our eyes – our gift of sight - to see what we can do to help the poor and the needy? Or do we ignore their plight? Do we use our ears – our gift of hearing - to listen to the complaints of the sick and those who are surrounded by problems which we can help solve, but pretend to be deaf to? Do we use our nose to smell the dirt in our environment, but do not cooperate to remove it? Do we use our feet to visit those who need our assistance?

Do we use our hands and open them when someone depends upon us for physical, moral, and most of all, spiritual assistance? Do we open our mind and our heart and soften them in order to take somebody out of the pit of destruction? I looked at God the Father again. The climate was getting hotter. I then looked up at our Father and prayed:

“Papa God, You love us don’t you? Please have pity on us and give us a cooler weather. Forgive us for not using Your gifts with charity and love. I know that Your Heart cannot bear to feel our suffering now. I know that You are making us suffer in order to remind us that Your gifts to us are not used properly. Forgive us, Papa God. We promise to be better

children from now on.A few minutes after my

prayer, the leaves of the trees started to move. A gentle breeze swept by and the rays of the sun became gentler. The strong heat slowly receded and soon, the day became cooler.

What a beautiful response to prayer. From then on, I started and ended my day with God the Father. Bad weather, sickness, problems of any sort, He listens if you talk to Him.

Today, we are much occupied with election campaigns, business pro-positions, games of chance, too much money, making proposals, too busy acquiring economic security, but, do we pause from all these and offer prayers to God the Father?
