Karl Hudson, preaching Karl Hudson left Lebanon in 2004 to follow God’s call on his life to pursue theological training at The Baptist College of Florida. The twenty year old left home, family, a job at the Lebanon Wal- Mart not knowing anything but God has called me to ministry and I will follow. In ten years since, he not only received his bachelor’s degree, but Karl received a call to his first pastorate, Bluffton Baptist Church (Georgia), met and married, Suzanne, a Florida native and also a student at the college (2007), and became a parent to Kailyn (2009). In 2009, Karl and Suzanne received a call to their first full-time ministry, Calvary Baptist Church, Cottonwood, Alabama, a community between Dothan, Alabama and The Baptist College of Florida. This move allowed Suzanne to continue her employment at the college and Karl the opportunity to pursue a Master’s Degree in Christian Studies. Karl was saved as a teenager. The youth ministry of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Lebanon, reached out to him. Karl realized that there was a void in his life that could only be filled by a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Since that time it is safe to say life for Karl Hudson has been better. Chris Gregg, music Chris is the Minister of Music & Worship at Silver Springs. From My Heart

From the Library

Happy Birthday! Everyone loves hearing those words when there are presents and cake involved! As I just passed into my fourth year

of being the Minister of Music at SSBC, I realize I am still in the toddler stage of what it means to be a worship leader. However, the choir wants to celebrate the big 4-0!! Not turning 40 years old but growing to 40 members strong. As with any community or group, there has been some turn over in our choir population due to life changes and other circumstances. So to ramp up our summer schedule, I would like to begin to push for the big 4-0! My goal is to reach 40 choir members by the end of the year, and it is very feasible. First, if you are a part of our congregation and have wanted to give the choir a shot, this is the time to join. We are just beginning our patriotic music and will begin to think about where the Christmas program will go. Second, choir members, we must invite others to join us and show them just how much fun we have singing praises to the Lord. Third, we need to increase our general church population so that new faces will line the pews and eventually fill the loft. Turning 40 is awesome!! Let’s reach the big 4-0 by the end of the year!

Names are important. In the

Bible “name” is a translation of the Hebrew word shem (in the Old Testament) and the Greek word onoma (in the New Testament). Together, “name” appears more than 1000 times in Scripture and routinely carries with it the idea of power, responsibility, purpose, and authority. In Scripture, the names of God are like miniature portraits and promises. God reveals Himself to us through His names. Learning to know God by His names opens up the door to knowing His character more fully and experiencing His power more deeply. Who is God to you? Is He your Most High God, All sufficient One, Master, Lord of Peace, the Lord Who Will Provide? Is He your Father? God knows us by our name; shouldn't we know Him by His?

Dottie Owens Resigns

Financial Secretary Position Dottie Owens is leaving our church staff as our Financial Secretary. This position was created in 2005, due to the growth of the church and the complexity of church financial issues. In the first year through dealing with IRS matters, Dottie more than paid her salary by proving to the IRS our past financial situation to be true. Because of her time in our office, our financial record keeping is in good shape. We wish good things for Dottie as she leaves this position.

Marynell & Tom Breeden were in an article about peach orchards.

We are reading and observing all the time that Christianity is losing ground in America. From church attendance, to baptisms of new converts, influence on the social issues, to the respect of the communities in which we minister, there is concern.

There are many reasons for this development and what I am about to say is not the only reason and may not be the main reason, but I believe it is a reason.

Churches have stopped having revivals, and some that do continue to have them, are very anemic events, revival meetings! There are all kinds of reasons given, but I don’t think our churches and culture are better off than when revival meetings were common place.

May 3-7, I don’t just want to have six church services. I am praying for the power of God to fall upon us. Awakenings, nationally and in local churches, have happened when God’s people gather together for protracted times.

When else, in the life of a church, other than revival meetings, does the church spend so much time together, praying to the Father, singing grand songs of the faith, hearing the Word of God, inviting their lost/unchurched friends, relatives, neighbors, business acquaintances, schoolmates, and the general public to their church? Other than Vacation Bible School, another outreach opportunity, I can think of none.

I am excited to see what God will do in the life of our church and in the lives of individuals, including mine because we have come before the Lord.

Glad to be your pastor,
