Jim Rogers is a globally recognized author, financial commentator, adventurer, and
international investor.
After attending Yale and Oxford University, Rogers co-founded the Quantum Fund,
a global investment partnership. After retiring at age 37, he served as a professor of
finance at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and as the moderator
of the Financial News Network’s ‘The Profit Motive with Jim Rogers’.
In 1990–1992, Rogers traveled 100,000 miles across six continents on his motorcycle,
landing him in the Guinness Book of World Records. He analyzed the countries through
which he traveled for investment ideas and chronicled his journey in Investment
Biker: On the Road with Jim Rogers. In 1999, Rogers embarked on another adventure,
traveling around the world for three years, claiming his third Guinness Record. He
covered more than 150,000 miles through 116 countries, which he recounted in his
book Adventure Capitalist: The Ultimate Road Trip. His other books include Hot
Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably in the World’s Best Market; A Bull
in China; A Gift to My Children and most recently Street Smarts: Adventures on the
Road and in the Markets.

Wei Du is a renowned business news presenter at Singapore’s Channel NewsAsia, where she reports on leading current affairs topics and presents features that are broadcast across Northeast and Central Asia. She previously anchored the channel’s flagship news bulletin, Asia Connect, and hosted the highly rated reality show Invest in Me. Michael Olesnicky is a Senior Advisor at KPMG in Hong Kong. He has more than 25 years’ experience advising on corporate tax, wealth management, trust planning and estate succession matters. Since 1986, he has been the Chairman of the Joint Liaison Committee on Taxation, a quasi-governmental committee interfacing between tax practitioners and the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department. Olesnicky is also the vice-chair of STEP in Hong Kong and chairs its China sub-committee. He also previously served as a member of the Law Faculty at Hong Kong University where he remains an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Professional Legal Education.

After completing her high school education in Thailand, Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul attended Wellesley College, as well as Rhode Island School of Design in the US, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture. Prior to her current post as the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, Wattanavrangkul, was Chairperson of Toshiba Thailand Co. Ltd. and held numerous positions such as President of the Thai-Japanese Association, President of the Self Sufficient Economy Committee (Thai Chamber of Commerce), and Head of the Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World Committee — Thailand. She is currently dedicated to developing the Thai tourism industry and for it to grow sustainably in the years to come as well as for Thailand to become a top tourist destination in all aspects.

The Hon. Allen Michael Chastanet has been Prime Minister of St. Lucia since 2016. A businessman and politician, Prime Minister Chastanet is also the leader of the United Workers Party, as well as the parliamentary representative for the Micoud South constituency. He previously served as Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. Prime Minister Chastanet holds a B.A. degree from Bishop’s University and a M.Sc. degree from American University. He won the parliamentary seat for the Micoud South constituency in the 2016 general election and was sworn in as Prime Minister on 7 June 2016.

The Hon. Gaston Browne is the fourth and current Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and has been in office since 2014. He served as Commercial Banking Manager in the Swiss American Banking Group, a major banking consortium in Antigua and Barbuda, comprising of offshore and onshore banks and a trust company. In 1999, Browne was appointed as the Parliamentary Representative for the constituency of St. John’s City West. Prime Minister Browne attended the City Banking College in the United Kingdom, where he gained a first degree in banking and later pursued studies at the University of Manchester, earning an MBA in Finance.

Dr. Joseph Muscat graduated with honors from the University of Malta in Public Policy and later as Master of European Studies. In 2007, he attained a Doctorate of Philosophy in Management Research from the University of Bristol (UK). From 1992 to 1997 he was a journalist and eventually Assistant Head of News with a national private radio station. He was elected member to the National Executive of the Partit Laburista at the age of 21 and later nominated as Education Secretary of the Party. He successfully contested the first European Parliamentary elections in Malta in 2004. In 2006, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Young Person of the Year Award. In June 2008, he was elected as the leader of the Partit Laburista. Dr. Muscat took office as Prime Minister of Malta on 11 March 2013.

Professor Kochenov holds a Chair in EU Constitutional Law at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. He is also the Chairman of the Investment Migration Council in Switzerland. He has held numerous fellowships and visiting professorships worldwide, including at Princeton University, NYU Law School, Boston College Law School, Osaka Graduate School of Law, the University of Turin, and the University of Basel. He publishes widely on different aspects of comparative and European citizenship law and migration regulation, and consults for governments and international organizations on EU constitutional law and citizenship issues. His latest publication is an edited volume entitled EU Citizenship and Federalism: The Role of Rights, published by Cambridge University Press in April this year.

Conference Dinner · Global Citizen Award
Once a year, Henley & Partners honors an inspirational global citizen who has
worked towards significantly improving and supporting the global community, and
whose actions or thinking has in some way contributed to a more just, peaceful,
and tolerant world. The annual laureate is chosen by the Award Committee, an
independent body of distinguished individuals, through a majority decision.
The laureate will be presented with this year’s award on 16 November 2017 at the
Global Citizen Award Ceremony during Henley & Partners’ Conference Dinner, in
the presence of several of the Award Committee members.
The Global Citizen Award consists of a specially made commemorative medal, a
certificate, and a USD 50,000 monetary prize. USD 25,000 of the prize is donated
to help the laureate continue their excellent work and an equal share is committed
to support the longstanding partnership between Henley & Partners and the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
