Commissioner Benavides motioned to approve the Resolution Authorizing the Cameron County Sheriff’s

Department to Submit a Continuation Grant Application to the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council for

the 2008 Sheriff’s Solid Waste Local Enforcement Project with Option #1, subject to the identification of a funding

source.

(28) CONSIDERATION AND AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL FIRE DEVICES UTILIZING TEXAS MASTER AGREEMENT SCHEDULE (TxMAS)/JOHNSON CONTROL INC. AND TO DESIGNATE FUNDING SOURCE. (RL-BUILDING MAINTENANCE) (Contract No. 2007C12410)

Mr. Robert Lopez, Administrative Services Director, stated that the fire devices are needed to comply with

Local and State fire codes for the 3rd and 4th floor of the Administrative Building for the District Attorney

Renovation project.

Commissioner Garza inquired as to the funding for this purchase.

Mr. Pete Sepulveda, County Administrator, replied that the settlement proceeds are the source of funds for

the Renovation of the 3rd and 4th floor of the Administrative Building and recommended that the budget be amended

to utilize the settlement proceeds for the purchase of the additional fire devices.

Upon motion by Commissioner Wood, seconded by Commissioner Benavides and carried unanimously,

Authorization to Purchase Additional Fire Devices Utilizing Texas Master Agreement Schedule (TxMAS)/Johnson

Control Inc. was approved.

Mr. Robert Lopez, Administrative Services Director, informed the Court that (8) cameras are being

replaced at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center.

Mr. Pete Sepulveda, County Administrator, noted that the Maintenance & Operation Budget can be utilized

to fund the remaining $5,000 for the purchase.

Upon motion by Commissioner Tamayo, seconded by Commissioner Benavides and carried unanimously,

Authorization to Purchase CCTV Camera Replacements and UPS/Surge Protectors Utilizing the Inter-Local

Purchase System (TIPS)/KLC Video was approved.

Mr. David Garcia, Deputy County Administrator, reported that the County will be receiving $50,000 in

reimbursements from the General Land Office regarding the CIAP grant. He noted that the County will now be

required to submit quarterly reports to the General Land Office.

Upon motion by Commissioner Wood, seconded by Commissioner Benavides and carried unanimously,

Mr. David Garcia’s Report regarding the County’s State and Federal Legislative Agenda was acknowledged.

Upon motion by Commissioner Tamayo, seconded by Commissioner Wood and carried unanimously, the

Court reconvened into Regular Session at 6:16 P.M. to discuss the following matters:

Commissioner Wood motioned to approve the Cameron County Civil Division to represent the

County in the EEOC complaint filed by Arnulfo Huerta and to entertain mediation if deemed appropriate.

Commissioner Benavides motioned to grant authority to the Civil Division of the Commissioners’

Court to represent the Commissioners’ Court and file any appropriate pleadings and motions to protect the

Commissioners’ Court confidential information and privileged communications with its attorneys in the

criminal cases filed against Mark Yates.
