60 yrs. service
Recently Mrs Christine Dodd and Mrs Lesley Davies retired from the school
administration team after a combined total of
over 30 years’ service.
They returned in early October to wish
Rhona Skillicorn a Happy Retirement after
she had spent 30 yrs. in various roles at the
school
Rhona first joined the school working in the
then Lower School Canteen before joining
the Cleaning Services team where she
progressed to become the school’s longest
serving Cleaning Supervisor.
In addition to these roles, Rhona also became
a Mid-day Supervisor and saw not only her
children but her grandchildren go through the
school. Mrs Christine Dodd, Mrs Rhona Skillicorn
and Mrs Lesley Davies.
Speaking on her retirement day, Rhona said,
‘It seems like only yesterday that I was the new girl in the old school canteen.
I’ve seen many children pass through the school from the village (Ruabon) and
what’s nice is that they all say ‘hello’ when we meet on the street. I’ve
thoroughly enjoyed my time at Ysgol Rhiwabon but after 30 years as a dinner
lady and other jobs here, I think it’s time I relaxed a little!’
Giles Evans said:
‘Chris, Les and Rhona have shown tremendous commitment and dedication
over their time at the school and will be very much missed by all who work
here. The school wishes them well in their new phase of life’.

THE LITTER PICK
PCSO Emily Blake managed to
arrange funding from the Arson
Reduction Team, for the youth
members of the Ruabon Centre
of Excellence to take an
exciting trip to Alton Towers.
This event fired up the young
people to want to do something
for the community so they
decided on a Ruabon Litter
Pick.
‘Suited and booted’ the youth team,
with PCSO Emily Blake, are ready for their task. **

Medieval Wrexham Talk to Civic Society 22-10-2015 01:00 PM BST
A talk entitled "MEDIEVAL WREXHAM" is being sponsored by the Wrexham Area Civic Society. It is to be given by Mr. Ray Jones. The origins of Wrexham are uncertain. It was possibly a Saxon settlement, ‘Wristlesham’ or ‘Wrightlesham’, but was certainly in existence before 1220 when St. Giles' Church was first built. Thus there is a suitably mysterious starting point for Ray's talk; no doubt later records provide a clearer historical record. Ray, Wrexham born, has written three books on the landscape history of the Welsh borderlands. He recently gave us a memorable talk on the history of the Gwenfro Valley, and we look forward to welcoming him back. All are welcome, the meeting is free. Come to the meeting to learn more of the activities of the Civic Society. Or more can be found on the website www.facebook.com/wrexhamcivic.
