NOW in its 20th year, the 2011 Bowen Family Fishing Classic and Wet Weekend is the biggest family fishing competition in the country. Held along Bowen's Front Beach at the new Soundshell and Festival Park, the event not only offers anglers the chance to compete for a host of fantas-tic prizes - it provides the whole family with the opportunity to play and be entertained over an entire weekend at the Top of the Whitsundays. The Classic, as it is rather affectionately known, has become an icon in fishing, entertainment, and family fun, for it is the entire Bowen com-munity which makes this event special, whether it is the dedicated team of volunteers who work year-round planning the event, or the National, Regional and Local Businesses who donate the host of prizes on offer, including Senior and Junior boat packages as a lucky nomination draw. This is a weekend to remember. So come on down on September 17th and 18th, the first weekend of the school holidays, to Bowen’s Front Beach, catch some fish, meet your mates, have some fun and tell your friends!

ADAM Harvey is regarded as one of the best singers in the coun-try music industry. After 5 albums and over 200,000 CDs sold, it would seem that country music fans agree.Adam won his first talent quest at the age of 15 and in 1996, was awarded his first Golden Guitar in Tamworth. Since then he was won 7 Golden Guitars at the Country Music Awards of Australia, and countless other awards and accolades. He has appeared on many TV shows including a season on the Channel 7 show “It Takes Two”. “I’ve been one of the lucky ones,” he says. “You get a few kicks along the way and it really toughens you up a bit. If you want it bad enough, and you’re prepared to do what it takes to get there, it makes you appreciate it even more, you know?” Adam risked everything when he first started out, quitting his day job to follow his dream of being a country music artist full-time. And although he credits his former boss for forcing to choose (“You can only have one master,” he was told), he believes the key to his longevity in an ever-changing world is the loyalty of his fans and that distinctive voice, which sets him apart from his contemporaries. It’s fitting then that Sony Music has released the “Best so Far” CD and its accompanying DVD, which together look back at an astonishing career in Australian country music. A career which began at a talent quest, when he was aged 15, and has since seen him play overseas in countries as diverse as Canada, China and crucially, the iconinc Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville.

ADAM HARVEY

Captain Wow are a highly enter-taining, energy packed show party band. One word...FUN! Recently opening for the legen-dary Village People at their sold out Gold Coast show. They have also supported Aussie great acts such as Mental As Anything, John

Farnham, Diesel, Mark Seymour from Hunters and Collectors & Richard Clapton. Captain Wow promise to bring to you their unique brand of 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s & Now. They deliver all this with dynamic three part harmonies, and way

more energy and fun on stage than any band has the right to have! It is blatantly obvious… they love what they do. As an ever evolving juggernaut of the Gold Coast entertainment industry, they are known from

Cairns to Tasmania, and having played most of the major clubs and Casino’s, are recognised as one of the most versatile party acts in the country. Captain Wow definitely is a whole lot more than your aver-age band

From Pubs and Clubs, Corporate events, Major Festivals and numerous Rodeos and Races. Luella is most certainly one of the hardest working artists this country has to offer. Respected by her peers and appreciated by her audiences. Luella has spent her life performing all over Australia successfully. Her fan base continues to grow with each performance.Number 1, 2 and 3 on the Triple J unearthed charts with her original songs “Without You” & “New Flame” and a fantastic song penned by Peter Cupples “When I Found The Blues”, Top 40 on Foxtels Country Music Channel with “Tonight”. The first track from her New EP “Cry Like The Rain” also made 14 on the Triple J unearthed Charts. See Luella Live Sunday afternoon.

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

TYTE ‘N’ Live, one of the most exciting and innovative bands to rock the Whitsundays will stage a reunion on the front beach in Bowen at this year’s Family Fishing Classic on the 17th of September. The first line-up originally played at The Blackforest Lodge, just south of Bowen. The band then came to an agreement with the Queens Beach Hotel Motel that they would perform in the Tartan Lounge every Friday night, an agreement that lasted more than 6 years to an average crowd of 400 each night. A simliar arrangement was forged for Saturday nights at the Airlie Beach Hotel. Titan Live played all over North Queensland from Rockhampton to Cairns and most of the mining towns in central Queensland,

including Mount Isa. Although primarily a rock band, Tyte ‘N’ Live always displayed a broad and exciting reper-toire and covered most music genres includ-ing solid rock, blues, punk and country. The Fishing classic is huge and feautures an amazing sound system, a full professional light show, live music all weekend and a massive open air concert on the Saturday night. Tyte ‘N’ Live will feature at 10:00pm with a list of carefully chosen feature songs, the members of the band plan to liase with the sound and lighting operators to enhance the show and ensure magic flows, again, one more time. This will be a sensational night! Definitely not an experience to be missed.

Harbour Road is a five piece rock band whose passion for the music they play spills from the stage and infects all that sees them perform. Harbour Road is often guilty of simply hav-ing such a good time that they forget that they are playing for an audience. “We always appreciate the great audiences who become part of the performance”, these people lift the band members to new heights. Harbour Road has earned the reputation around Mackay as a band ‘to see’.

THE band Lieght is an all Indigenous Band. Formed in Bowen in 1974, the band worked between Townsville and Rockhampton and gained a good following.

The five-piece band was made up of Warren Paul on vocals, Dolph Ives on drums, Rodney Ive and Robert Howard on guitars and Wayne Power on bass, who also doubles as the band’s booking and production manager.None of the members had any musical train-ing. In Februrary 2011, the band reformed with the five original members. There are many reasons why, and they’re extreme-ly excited about the fact that they never thought that this would happen. They had to overcome a hurdle, one member lives in Brisbane and one member lives in Mackay. This is no longer a problem. In their repertoire the band plays material from The Doobie Brothers, Joe Cocker and Carlos Santana (just to name a few). Because these artists have a big percussion sound, the band will include an extra percus-sionist and an extra guitarist.

This is an exciting time for the band and they look forward to performing to people who remember them and to people who want to listen and watch a local band from the Seventies.

The CrackUp Sisters have performed across Australia from the outback to the beach, hosted the John Williamson Great Australian Muster, featured at Calgary Stampede

in Canada, toured with the Premier of Queensland and packed a backyard full of laughs at a 50th birthday party. At the Bowen Fishing Classic they’ll be throwing out lines - baited with some of their favourite roving characters to reel in some action and mayhem. Catch them for a reel yarn and a picture.
