The main thing that I find interesting about this movie trailer is how it

immediately drops you into the scenario, so we don’t know how or why they got

there. Another think that I like about this film is how it is an animation which is

suitable for all ages and that it has a story line which is enjoyable for all.

Another good feature of the film that I like is how they have incorporated many

fairy-tale characters which means that this film will attract the attention of many

children as they will want to see a film that has characters that they idolise.

Although the characters that they have used are not humans I think that It is a

very smart idea that they have made them as human alike as possible as this

means that more people are going to be able to understand the film more and

will be able to relate to it. The thing that I mainly like about the storyline is how

it is of a fairy-tale relationship and how it grows. This storyline makes the film

more appealing but the creators have made it look like you don’t have to be

perfect to find true love which is the total opposite to what society/the media

says and by watching this film it makes the audience feel more confident about

themselves.

The first location that we see in this trailer is that of a dark and dull castle, the camera moves

around this location so we are able to see if there are any other props laying around. In this scene

this is where we are introduced to Shrek and to Donkey, this location could be daunting but it brings

out the best in their personalities and we are able to see their relationship forming. This location is

on screen from 0:05 to 0:21, which indicates that they are in the castle for a specific reason and it

turns out that they are looking to find princess Fiona. The second location is that of Shrek and

Donkey walking up and down the hills however this location isn't on for long which signifies that this

isn't the most crucial location in the trailer. This location is available for us to see from 0:24 to 0:25.

the next location we see is in the woods where we are introduced to many new characters with the

main one being Pinocchio, this location is in the woods which makes the trailer look realistic and

more relatable. The fourth scene is of Shrek at the left, snow white in a coffin and the seven dwarfs

at the other end by showing us this location it allows us to see the variety of characters that are

involved in the film. This location is on the trailer for a numerous amount of seconds which shows

the importance of it. The fifth location that we are able to see is of where Shrek lives and the daily

routines that he has, this is to show us his human like features which makes us console with him.

Page 4: Textual research 2

The sixth location that we are able to see is when Shrek and donkey are back in the castle, this

time around in the castle we see Shrek has rescued Fiona, this gives the audience hope for them to

have a happy ever after which is good as this is a follow up from the first location that we saw. The

next location that we see after that is when Shrek has allowed donkey back to his home, this scene

has been added into the trailer as it adds a sense of humour and shows how a relationship is

quickly developing. This location allows us to see the realism of the film as everything that they

have, we would also have in our homes so this makes it more realistic for the younger audience to

view it and to understand it. We then are introduced to the woods where princess Fiona is fighting

off the baddies, with it being set in this location it makes it seem more believable as this is where

most battles would commence and it is seen as Fiona is doing Shrek a favour by fighting them off.

The next location we see is one that looks pretty daunting as it is of when Shrek and donkey are

walking on a bridge that is over fire/lava. This location adds humour due to the wording but also

makes it seem like another big scene is due to happen. Finally the last location that we are able to

see id where Shrek Fiona and donkey are all in shot ad this is in the woods, however it is made out

to look like they are enjoying a romantic strole, all of the fighting took place here but they have

overcome that and have found new relationship which is what everyone had wanted from the start.

Due to the fact that this film is aimed at the younger audience it is clear to see that overall it has a very slow scene and this is to ensure that the audience understand everything.

The real start of the trailer of which is of the interest of the audience starts at 0:06 and this lasts until 0:21the pace of this part of thee film is rather slow paced and although this contains the action it starts of slow so that the audience aren’t on the edge of their seats. This pace makes it seem much more relaxed.

The next bits of filming that we see is of Shrek and donkey walking long the hills, but then there is a quick transaction to the next location which is in the woods, however the pace is still at a reasonable speed but we are still able to understand all of the speech.

From the timing of 0:27 to 0:31 the pace of the film seems to speed up and this is clear to see judging by the change of the tempo in the background music, I would say that the on screen acting was still at the same pace but there are parts which make it seem more quicker.

The pace drastically speeds up at 0:36 which is where we see Shrek in his home comforts this is when we see that he is most at ease. From this point on to the end we see that the pace of the trailer is quickly speeding up and at no point does it speed down. This is to get the audience more involved in the film and to get them more excited to see it. By getting the pace of the trailer up more it means that there is more excitement however it could also be the case that they have that much footage that they are just wanting to cram in. By adding more footage in it shows that they have worked hard to get the trailer to where its at now.

By increasing the pace of the film it makes it seem more intense and also makes it seem more enjoyable for us to watch.

This intertitle is the first thing that we see

when we watch the trailer. This intertitle

shows us how the trailer has been

declared suitable for a certain age

group/age band. It is important to have this

at the start of the trailer as it allows people

who are wanting to watch it decide if the

others around them are suited to watch it.

This intertitle is on screen for

approximately 5 seconds so from 0:00 to

0:05.

This intertitle comes into the trailer at the

precise time of 0:21 and lasts until 0:23.

This intertitle is placed near the start of the

trailer as it comes after we see the first

location, the reason that it comes at this

time is that it breaks up the film and it

allows the audience some thinking time

about what is to come. Its important and

vital to have this intertitle as we need to

know what distributer that the film came

from. Although this film will be more trusted

as this is one of the top studios.

Page 7: Textual research 2

It is important that they have the name of

the film included in the trailer. This is

needed so that we remember the name of

the film as the trailer is there to make us

want to see the film however the name of

the film wont be mentioned as much but it

is vital that we see the design of the title

as this is what will be on the promotional

offers/ DVD covers.

This is the fourth and the final intertitle that

we see in the film trailer for this film. This is

the intertitle that should come last as are

wanting to watch the trailer then we want to

know when we are able to watch the whole

film. It is important for this to be added as a

intertitle as the audience are the people

who are going to make the film a success

so they need to know all vital information.

This intertitle is seen as the conclusion of

the trailer as this is when people know that

the trailer has finished.
