Textual Analysis of Q

Q’s General style overall

Q magazine has its logo in the corner of every magazine and continues to be the same white Q and red square background. This logo takes up a fairly large portion of the page making ti stand out to the reader. Red has connotations of danger and lust which might be associated with the genres of music that the magazine focuses on. The majority of images used on the cover of the magazines are close ups, showing the reader that the magazine has an intimate relationship with the artist and making the artist a more obvious focal point. Upon first glance, Q magazine appears to have a simplistic style with few banners or menu strips.

Analysis of Q Cover

Masthead – The magazine’s logo and distinguishing factor. The masthead is in the corner of the page instead of the more conventional banner style. The red square contains the white logo and magazine’s tagline and makes it stand out to the reader.

Anchorage- Similar to the headline, the bold wide font of the anchorage stands out to the reader and the white font contrasts the background

Headline- The headline is the largest font on the page other than the logo. The white text contrasts with the artists hair making it stand out to the reader. The quote also adds a personal element to the headline, making the reader feel more connected to the artist, therefore making them inclined to read the article within. The font is simple and bold.

Barcode – This is an indication of the price. It is small in the corner of the page so readers are less likely to notice it.
