Corpus Christi De la Ysleta

• Was built in 1682. • Was the first

permanent mission established in Texas.

• Was built in present day El Paso.

• Started the Spanish Mission Movement

San Francisco de los Tejas

• Founded on June 1, 1690.

• Founded by Father Damian Massanet and Angelina.

• The first Spanish Mission in East Texas

• Built in Response to Fort LaSalle.

• It served the Tejas Indians

San Juan Bautista

• Was Founded on the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass in 1699.

• A complex of 3 missions a presidio and a town

• Served as supply station for east Texas expeditions.

• Known as the “Mother of Missions”.

San Antonio de Valero

• Founded by Father Antonio de San Buenaventura y Oliveres

• Became later known as the Alamo

• Presidio San Antonio de Bexar was built in 1718 under the direction of Martin de Alarcon.

Nuestra Senora del Pillar de lo Adaes

• Marcus de San Miguel de Aguago founded

• Site is near French Post Natchitoches, Near present day Robiline, Louisiana.

• Unofficial Capital of Texas in 1722 and remained for 50 years

La Bahia

• Was built in the Ruins of LaSalle’s Fort.

• Moved on the San Antonio River near present day Goliad.

• Would later become the site for a key battle in the Texas Revolution- the Battle of Goliad and the Goliad Massacre

San Xavier Missions

• Were built on the San Gabriel River near present day Rockdale between the years of 1748- 1751.

• It was a group of 3 Missions.

• It served the Tonkawas and others.

• Apaches raided the settlements which cause the missions to fail.

San Cruz de San Saba-Was founded in 1757 near present day Menard.-Wanted to convert the Apaches into Christians.- Mission eventually failed with the attacks of the Comanche, failure to Chrisitianize the natives, and lack of supplies
