FUN-gi friends in 4J!FUN-gi friends in 4J!

Class 4J have been having a FUNgi time growing mushrooms!Leah Bramich, from the Australian Mushroom GrowersAssociation, visited the class and donated a mushroom kitso the class could grow their own mushrooms. We had toassemble our kit and place the peat moss casing on top ofthe compost which was covered in frosty white mycelium. Thenwe had to remember to spray thoroughly with water every day,so the peat moss was like a wet sponge. In one week wehad some pinning – our first little mushrooms were appearing! We couldn’t believe how much they grew in a week. Theycontinued to grow and then another week later, we decidedthey were ready to harvest. Our first flush has been a hugesuccess and we are looking forward to the next two flushes! We’re also looking forward to making some deliciousmushroom pizzas with our FUNgi friends ?

This article from kidsmatter.edu.au addresses how to recogniseand respond to children's fears and worries. With the ongoingnature of the COVID-19 situation, it's important to recognisehow our young people may be reacting to the news. It maybe helpful to explain that the reason we are wearing masks, being vaccinated and staying away from some activities is tohelp keep us all safe and healthy.

Cheers, Lynda.
