The Indian government proved that the man who sold the statue was not allowed to do so under Indian law. This is, however, one of very few cases when treasures representing the culture of a country have been returned to where they rightfully belong.C____A question that frequently comes up again and again is whether museums should give back national art treasures to the countries of their origin. These treasures were often taken in times when some countries were occupied by another country or used to be colonies of European states and some of them now claim the masterpieces of their national art should be returned to where they belong.D____All these foreign treasures are kept in museums in London. But they are very unlikely to be returned to the countries of their origin because of the strict laws. Art treasures can only be returned if they were taken abroad illegally and the parliament agrees to give them back. E____Greece would like to receive the Elgin Marbles that are on display in the British Museum. Also known as the Parthenon Marbles, the sculptures were removed from the Acropolis at the beginning of the 19th century and transported to Britain, where they have remained until today.
