HQ02b : Test result overview
I. Magnet PreparationIntegration:
• No issues (in accordance with D. Cheng drawings). OK.• Preparation of the 3 leads: tinplating, hardening and instrumented. OK.
Instrumentations:
• Cryogenics Control Nothing to declare. OK.• Fiber Optic Integration OK but no conclusive results• Acoustic Sensor Integration OK and coherent acquisitions• Voltage Taps PotAIM card OK, same taps as LBNL are lost
(18/82)• Strain Gauges Issues (Agilent, connector swap, inversion
Shell-Rod: OK)
HV test:
• Limited to 700 V: third current lead ground insulation weakness (test facility).
• Problem identified with the Impulse Test box urgently shipped.
Outcome:
• One week of preparation to get cooling-down ready.• Need people for in-house instrumentation setting (Maxim, Helene…)

III. Magnet performance
Preliminary test (Thursday 27th ):
• Vmax = 600 V• Rdump = 120 mW• Delay = 100 ms• Threshold= 200 mV
Provoked with IL, OL, CLIQ unit 1 and 2• RR=20 A/s• I mag = 0, 3, 5 kA
Natural quench• RR = 350 A/s• I mag = 3765 A (vs. 3500 at FERMI)
Outcome: All signal look OK, PH and CLIQ worked as expected. One day of preliminary test.

III. Magnet performance
Training: 1st part (28th, 31st, 1st, 2nd )
• Vmax = 700 V• Rdump = 30 then 40 mW• Delay = 5 ms• Threshold= 400 mV• RR=50 up to 10 kA then 20 A/s to quench (later 10 A/s but no visible
effect)
Outcome: • same starting point• Training rate faster
(~200 vs. ~50 A/quench )
• Stop training to go to CLIQ test (time constrain)
HQ02b : Test result overview
III. Magnet performance
CLIQ test (2nd , 3rd, 4th, 7th)
• CLIQ able to protect the magnet
• Time constrain: • Could skip less relevant quench after first CLIQ experience• skip all 16.5 kA test
• See Emmanuele’s presentation
• Outcome: • One training quench with CLIQ as protection• all energy goes into the bath• pressure above 2 bar• HeII opening to buffer• Long time recovery• Keep CLIQ for last quench of the day
HQ02b : Test result overview
III. Magnet performance
PH test (7th)
• Only 8 and 11 kA provoked quench (OL then IL) due to time constrain (no 9, 14.6 and 16.5 as scheduled).
• See Tiina’s and Vittorio’s presentation.
• Some 11kA extraction (High Miits test) are also useful for PH characterization.
HQ02b : Test result overview
III. Magnet performanceTraining: 2nd part (9th, 10th)• Two days to resume training.• CLIQ test did not spoil the 1st training. Mid-plane

IV. High Miits testIssue 1• With Natural quench, playing with the protection (EE & PH) delay
cannot give Miits > 16.Magnet resistance growth > 100 mW (three coils quenching).
• The Power Supply cannot face voltage > 10 V and maintain constant current.Solution 1
• Provoked quench at 11 kA with C16A2 (inner layer).• Extend protection delay (OL PH and EE)• 19 Miits obtain with 300 ms delay
Issues 2• 11kA approach limited to 19 Miits
Solution 2• Provoked quench at 6kA with 650 ms approach limited to 21 Miits.• Provoked quench at 6 kA with Spot Heater: 25 Miits
HQ02b : Test result overview
IV. High Miits test
Verification ramp with threshold 16.4 kA ( 5% less than maximum current)
HQ02b : Test result overview
Conclusion Magnet integration: need people to set-up the instrumentation (SG
issue could have been avoided)
HV test: test facility issue with new third lead, to be confirmed tomorrow.
Test schedule was tight but we manage to cover most of it.
Cryogenics issues: ½ day (cold box issue) + ½ day (wrong handling of the valve).
Power Convertor issue: 1 day (switch connection loose)
Result: 95% of short sample CLIQ test for the first time on Nb3Sn successful. High Miits test:
Power Supply not powerful enough Solution found at lower current and Spot Heater
Data analysis with CERN database and data diffusion to the plone on-going.
Before shipping back to US: HV test and Continuity. Withing next two weeks…
