VIEGA

•  Viega is known for their Pro Press non solder method of joining pipes, fittings and valves.

Uses •  Use from ½” to 4” copper •  Available for stainless steel 304 and

316 •  Potable water •  Fire Sprinklers •  Chilled / Hot water •  Compressed air

Now Mega Press •  First to develop use with black iron pipe •  Schedule 5 through Schedule 40 •  NO THREADING REQUIRED •  Over 200 different fitting configurations

•  Natural Gas and Fuel Oil •  Water applications (chilled and hot water) •  Steam •  Steam condensate •  Compressed air •  Sprinkler

Mega Press •  Sizes from ½” to 2 inches •  Unions, flanged connections •  Tees, elbows •  Caps •  Couplings •  Steel threaded adapters •  Compliant with IPC, IMC, UPC & IMC,

ASTM

Mega Press •  Water pressure up to 200 psi •  Temperatures from -40 F to 250 F •  Low Pressure steam to 15 psi •  EPDM “O” rings good for most fluids •  Alternate “O” rings in HNBR

(hydrogenated nitrile) higher temperatures

•  FKM (fluorocarbon or Viton) chemicals

Steam Condensate •  We received permission from Germany,

Viega’s home company, to use at St. Vincent’s on condensate piping.

•  We had to ensure balanced pH in the return condensate would not harm “O” rings.

•  We accomplished by adding chemical treatment to steam.

Page 10: TES Engineering Mega Press Breakfast Club Presentation

Steam Condensate As the steam completes it work and condenses, carbon dioxide forms and is a normal by product of the steam (water vapors). CO2 + H20 form carbonic acid and lowers the pH of the steam condensate. Slight pitch and slow return to boiler aggravate the pitting and corrosion of the steam condensate. Usually use schedule 80 steel pipe.

Steam Condensate •  Oxygen introduced by make up water

or leaks in piping add to acidity. •  Elevated temperatures increase

corrosion to piping. Especially at threaded connections.

•  Thus before using Mega Press for steam condensate, the steam MUST be treated and a oxygen scavenger added.

•  The factory must approve.
