Annex 5: Participatory Events

This applied research activity is conducted within the framework of the ESPON 2020 Cooperation

Programme.

The ESPON EGTC is the Single Beneficiary of the ESPON 2020 Cooperation Programme. The Single

Operation within the programme is implemented by the ESPON EGTC and co-financed by the

European Regional Development Fund, the EU Member States and the Partner States, Iceland,

Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.

Introduction

This annex to the main report of the ESPON study on the European Territorial Reference Framework

provides a quick overview on the extensive participatory activities of the project team. These range from

a series of meetings and interactions with the Strategic Advisory Forum which has been set up for this

project (section 2), over the organisation of special workshops and sessions by the project (section 1.1),

the participation in events concerning the development of the Territorial Agenda post-2020 (section

1.2), the participation in various ESPON activities (section 1.3) and the participation in other events to

discuss the Territorial Reference Framework (section 1.4).

1 Participatory events

Throughout the study, the project team has been engaged in a wide range of meetings, seminars and

events to present and discuss project results and collect responses and feedback from many different

target groups. The below sections provide a quick overview on the most important events.

2 Strategic Advisory Forum

The Strategic Advisory Forum (SAF) is the core of the participatory process on which the project is

based. It is composed by 17 high-level strategic thinkers on the current and future territorial

development of Europe. SAF has been contributing to the development of the European Territorial

Reference Framework through discussing, debating and reflecting upon selected working results of the

project team, including the possible future scenarios for the territorial development of Europe. In the

following we list all members of the Strategic Advisory Forum. Afterwards, we provide an overview of

the agendas of the five meetings of the Strategic Advisory Forum.
