SOUTH AUSTRALIA

red belly black

The Angove Family has crafted fine wines with distinctive qualities for five generations.

Red Belly Black wines are named for the Red Belly Black snake that is indigenous to Australia’s bushland areas where the Angove’s wines are produced.

VINEYARD NOTESThe winemakers at Angove’s search through the premium regions of South Australia

for exceptional parcels of fruit for this wine. Padthaway and Wrattonbully in the

South East, McLaren Vale and Mount Benson on the coast, The Flinders Ranges in the

north and our Nanya Vineyard in the Riverland region all provide parcels for this

blend, each adding nuances and complexity to the finished work.

WINEMAKING NOTESThe grapes for this wine were picked at night to make sure that they were as cool as

possible. Crushed to modern rotary fermenters and traditional static fermenters the

grapes were then allowed to macerate for 2 days before inoculation and fermenta-

tion. Pressed off skins 7 days later and allowed to go through the second malolactic

fermentation. Parcels of the wine were aged in small American Oak barrels, with

other parcels receiving careful oak treatment to impart rich full spice and vanillin

flavours. The wine has then had minimal handling prior to filtration for bottling.

TASTING NOTESInky black with purple and garnet hues, this wine follows its lovely colour with

aromas of rich plum redcurrant and liquorice together with spicy vanillin oak. The

soft silky texture and fruit richness of the palate have great length and finish with

exquisite mouth filling dark fruit flavours.

California

Sauvignon Blanc

What:

the careful selection of grapes from vineyards in Monterey, Napa and Lake

Counties comes to fruition in our 2008 California Sauvignon Blanc, a complex,

structured blend which balances fruit and acidity.

Where:

the cool, coastal vineyards of Monterey allow the grapes to mature slowly and

develop intense citrus flavors with crisp minerality. Combined with richer, more

complex grapes from the sun-drenched Napa Valley, the blend evolves into a

more structured, balanced wine. Grapes from Lake County enhance the wine’s

acidity and heighten its tropical flavors. together, these locales produce a wine

with aromas of guava, watermelon, Meyer lemon and a long, juicy finish.

Why:

aging this well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc in stainless steel preserves the intense

fruit aromas and flavors without the cloaking presence of malolactic fermenta-

tion. the screw cap enclosure and the UV safe green glass package ensure that

our wine maintains freshness throughout its life. Put simply, this is one of our

favorite wines to drink regardless of season or spread; it is bright and crisp year

round.

V I N E Y A R D I N F O R M A T I O N Main Street Winery Merlot was crafted from three of California’s premier, cool-climate, coastal appellations. Lots from Napa, Santa Barbara, and Monterey Counties were blended to enhance complexity, balance, and varietal accuracy.

W I N E M A K I N G We used the Délestage method favored by many top Bordeaux chateaux during fer-mentation of our 2005 Merlot. We rack the fermenting wine into an empty tank, allowing the cap to settle to the bottom and then return the wine back to the original tank, splashing the juice over the cap. This helps to develop deeper color and provide greater flavor extraction. It also gives us the opportunity to remove seeds that can add harsh tannins or green flavors to the finished wine. After a 10-day macera-tion, the wine was transferred to a combination of new and used French and American oak for one year.

T A S T I N G N O T E S Main Street Winery wines are pure manifestations of the grape variety, and this 2005 Merlot is no exception. The wine is lush, rich, and remarkably smooth with ripe, juicy fruit and mouth-watering acidity.

WINE ATTITUDE

Not to intrude on your personal affairs, but here’s a suggestion for the

perfect ménage à trois: you, your significant other and a bottle of our

brand-new Ménage à Trois Chardonnay. A sensual blend of grapes

from three signature California wine regions, this silky Chardonnay

seduces with great body, luscious flavors and a delicious kiss of oak.

You and your paramour may fight over the last sip, but it will be with

blissed-out smiles.

WINE INFORMATION

VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING

Although it’s a tad risqué, Ménage à Trois 2007 Chardonnay has an

impeccable, California coastal pedigree: 56% of the grapes are from

Monterey County, 37% from Santa Barbara County and 7% from

Mendocino County. To enhance its richly fruity flavors, we fermented

the wine with a special French yeast (but of course!), induced partial

malolactic fermentation, and coupled the creamy result with French

and American oak (yet another ménage à trois!), thus delighting

Chardonnay hedonists everywhere.

TASTING NOTES

Each geographic partner in our Ménage à Trois Chardonnay

contributes a distinctive quality: fresh citrus aromas from Monterey;

lush tropical fruit flavors from Santa Barbara; and fine structure from

Mendocino. We’d like to say it’s a Ménage made in heaven, but to be

truthful, it was made in Napa Valley. (Hey, who’s splitting hairs?)

WINE ATTITUDE

Sure, we could have settled for your good old-fashioned double

entendre. You know, a not-so-subtle quip accompanied by a sly wink

of the eye and a secret titter. But why stop at double when there was

a triple entendre just waiting to be had? Ménage à Trois examines

what happens when you put three attractive, single, young grapes in

one exquisite bottle.

VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING

Ménage à Trois red brings together three strange bedfellows:

Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. To add complexity and

retain character, each variety was fermented separately, then blended

together prior to bottling. On top we’ve got Zinfandel, a saucy tease

that brings blackberry and raspberry jam to the relationship. Merlot,

with its generous mouth feel and red fruits, fits perfectly in the middle.

The rich flavors and firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon make it the

ideal candidate for the bottom layer of the trio.

TASTING NOTES

Our 2007 Ménage à Trois exposes the fresh, ripe, jam like fruit that is

the calling card of California wine. Forward, silky and soft, this

delicious dalliance makes the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats

or chicken.

Cabernet Sauvignon

2006

VINEYARD & VARIETAL INFORMATIONOur 2006 Cabernet was sourced from a variety of vineyards known for producing consistently premier quality grapes. The warmer weather vineyards give this wine its fruit-forward characteristics, while the cooler vineyards balance the acidity levels. The different varietal expressions produced in each vineyard allow us to create a balanced and inviting Cabernet Sauvignon.

WINEMAKINGThe wine was fermented for a week at 85 degrees Fahrenheit and after settling and racking, was introduced to French and American oak influences. The result is a smooth, easy drinking style of Cabernet designed to be enjoyable upon release.

TASTING NOTESOur 2006 Cabernet is a big, bold Cab with notes of black cheery and jammy preserves aromas. A deep, rich wine, our 2006 Cabernet is dense with complex toasty, vanilla and spicy oak tones. The medium-plus body combines with juicy ripe fruit and flavor-enhancing acidity to create our quality California Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chardonnay2007

VINEYARD & VARIETAL INFORMATIONThe grapes for our 2007 Chardonnay are a balance of coastal and delta fruit. The growing season allowed the Chardonnay grapes to enjoy a "hang time" on the vine, which developed the grapes' full, rich flavors and complexities.

WINEMAKINGOur 2007 Chardonnay underwent partial malolactic fermentation to enhance the mouthfeel and impart creamy tones to the wine while still retaining crisp varietal flavors.

TASTING NOTESOur Chardonnay displays the tropical flavors and great acidity typical of our California vineyards. There’s a slight spice on the silky smooth finish. The flavors are ripe with lemon, lime, apple and tropical fruits. Rich and well structured, this is one of our classiest Chardonnays to date.

Vineyard & Varietal InformationPinot Grigio or Pinot Gris, is the grey grape of France. A mutation of Pinot Noir, for generations it grew in Burgundian vineyards alongside its red relation. When field blended with Pinot Noir it adds softness and acidity. In the last decade Pinot Grigio has received massive international popularity. The varietal can turn out white wine of substantial structure and character with the verve to pair well with nearly any cuisine. Sunny, seaside, beautiful Santa Barbara County is a great match for Pinot Grigio. At our Los Alamos vineyard, located just east of highway 101 in the middle of Santa Barbara County, the combination of well drained, extremely sandy soils and steep hillside plantings stress the vines just enough to bring intense varietal character to the fruit. This site also has the significant benefit of marine influence, critical for Pinot Grigio. Being a cousin of Pinot Noir, a long cool growing season is essential for the grapes to properly ripen, developing more concentration of flavors, while preserving acid balance.

WinemakingThe grapes are gently hand harvested in the first hours of morning to ensure cooler temperatures during their long truck ride to the Amador County. Upon arrival at the winery, the fruit is handled with the utmost of care. It is immediately sent to press for gentle processing, minimizing the potential extraction of unwanted astringency and color from the skin and seeds. The clean juice, bursting with Pinot Grigio essence goes immediately to stainless steel fermentors. The fermentation is kept at very low temperatures for over a month, to develop bright, clean fruit character. Chardonnay that was fermented with oak is then blended in to develop a richer, broader mouthfeel and more complex finish.

Tasting Notes2007 Terra d’Oro Pinot Grigio is sublimely refreshing. The perfect quaffing wine, it also is a well suited dinner companion for white meat and fish dishes. Juicy Bartlett Pear and apple flavors are accented by the taste and textural sensation of buttery almonds. Heady aromas of honeysuckle and pear are brightened by a lemon essence. On its own or at the table, the clean bright simplicity of Terra d’Oro Pinot Grigio makes it ultimately agreeable.
