April 23, 2018 Dear Parents, Over the summer many families move to new homes outside of the Arnold attendance area. When a child transfers to another school, there are certain documents that need to be completed and given to the family to take to the new school when they register. If you will be moving out of the Arnold attendance area over the summer, please complete the form below and return it to the school by Friday, June 1, 2018. With this information, school personnel will be able to accurately complete the necessary transfer forms, which will be given to your child on the last day of school. These transfer forms must be taken to the new school at the time of registration. BAND and STRINGS RECRUITMENT

ATTENTION Second, Third and Fourth grade Parents and Students!

Due to the 2018-2019 school year starting after

Labor Day, we will be doing our annual recruiting for the instrumental program

this May/June.

Second, third, and fourth graders will receive a recruitment letter/enrollment form the week of May 14th. There are extra forms in the hallway

and in the office.

The deadline to enroll early is Thursday, June 7, 2018. It is best if students can enroll by June.

However, students can sign up the first week of school in September and still be able

to participate in the instrumental programs. Lessons will begin mid-September in the fall.

Instrumental Music Program Dear Parents,

Due to the school year starting after Labor Day next year, we are recruiting for the

instrumental program in May. Your child attended a demonstration and explanation about the

band and string instruction offered at Arnold Elementary. We hope your child chooses to be part

of this exciting learning experience. Current brain development and educational research has

repeatedly shown positive academic skills improvement from studying musical instruments.

Please consider your child’s request to participate in the band or strings program.

The following instrumental lessons are offered during school hours at no additional cost to the

parents: Third Grade: Violin, Viola, Cello and String Bass

Fourth and Fifth Grades: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone,

Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone Horn, Tuba, and Snare Drum/Bells. Percussion students need to

rent a Percussion Learning Kit (PLK). This kit contains both bells and a snare drum.

Students must provide their own instrument. However, a few school-owned instruments,

in particular large instruments (Tuba, Baritone Horn, Trombone, Cello, Bass, etc.) may be

borrowed. These are available on a first come, first served basis. Please let us know if finances

prevent you from securing an instrument. Parents must contact the teacher if this is the

situation. String instruments are made in many sizes and students need to be “sized” for the

correct instrument. There are many good music stores in the area that provide sizing and rentals.

The attached sheet lists their addresses and phone numbers. Please be cautious of Internet

purchases, “no-name” instruments, or purchases not made at music stores. DO NOT buy a

colored instrument! These instruments can be poorly set-up and difficult to play, which causes

much frustration for a beginning student and the parent.

Please take the following into consideration when signing up for the instrumental

program. Students will be required to practice daily at home and practice charts will be graded

weekly at lessons. Classes will meet for 30 minutes twice a week on a rotating basis and regular

lesson attendance is a MUST. Students are responsible for acquiring and completing all missed

class work due to instrumental class attendance. The students work very hard throughout the

year. Attendance at the Winter (Dec) and Spring (May) Concerts are mandatory as this is a

requirement of the course.

Once your child has turned in the registration form, they will be enrolled in the

class. You will be notified of successful enrollment with a welcome letter. Your child will

receive a schedule and class guidelines at the first lesson. Students will need their instruments

and books for every lesson.

Please purchase the appropriate method book for your child’s instrument level.
