The communication cables 8-pin female C DIN connector mates to

the communication port of the PCT, while the bare leads are wired toa DeviceNet 5-pin or 10-pin linear plug according to the followingtable.

The PCT must be powered from an external 24V DC source throughthe communication cable. Power supply connections are applied atterminals 1 and 5 of the linear plug.

The DeviceNet network requires a terminating resistor at each end ofthe network. The PCT includes a configurable terminating resistor as

    well. When:

the PCT is on a network, the resistor should be OUT.

the PCT is connected to a target device in a point-to-pointconfiguration, the resistor should be IN.

Configuration of the PCTs terminating resistor can be accomplishedthrough the Auto Connect (page7-7) and On-line Setup (page 7-12)modes. Refer to those sections of this manual for programminginstructions.

    !

Before physically connecting the PCT to a targetdevice, verify that the external power supply hasadequate capacity to power both devices.

Press the Enter () key to continue with setting the node address forthe target device.

You will notice the cursor flashing at the least significant digit. Enterthe node address (if known) of the target device to which you intendto connect. The E3 overload relays factory default setting is nodeaddress 63. (Please note that this will not change the target devicesnode address setting. To accomplish this, enter the Node

    Commissioning mode.)

If a successful connection is made, the PCT display will be similar tothe following:

If this is the correct target, press the Enter () key to accept.Otherwise, the Up/Down arrows can be used to search for the nextdevice on the network until the intended target is located.

If the target address entered cannot be found on the network, the PCTwill display the following:

Pressing the Enter () key will put the PCT in a search mode and thefollowing will be displayed:

The search will begin from the target node address entered plus oneand will continue until the next device is located. The PCT display

will be similar to the following:

To continue searching, press the Up arrow key, and the PCT will

    display the following:

Pressing the Enter () key will continue the search until the nextdevice on the network is located.

The search will cycle through the 63 possible nodes one time, stopping each time a node connection is located.

rate and its node address is unknown. For these cases, perform thefollowing steps:

    1. Disable the PCTs Auto Connect feature in the Auto Connectmode menu.

    2. Cycle power to the target device if a Comm Fault exists.

    3. Follow the On-line Setup procedures to search for the targetdevice.

    4. If no device is found, repeat the On-line Setup and searchprocedures, setting a different PCT baud rate.

The PCT control keys, as a system in conjunction with the E3 overloadrelays output control firmware, perform as mechanically interlocked, maintained push buttons. When the green OUT A or OUT B (ON)key is operated momentarily (pulsed), the associated E3 overloadrelay output will latch closed. The E3 overload relay outputs willmaintain the commanded closed state until the associated OUT A orOUT B (OFF) key is operated.

    !

The parameters OutX Pr FltStateandOutX Pr FltValue, found in the E3 overload relaysOutput Setup group, allow flexibility concerning theoperation of the E3s outputs in the event of a trip.Factory default settings cause the outputs to openupon trip occurrence. E3 overload relay outputsthat were closed prior to a trip will re-close

upon a trip reset provided that the associatedred OUT X (OFF) keys have not been previouslyoperated.

    !

The control keys may only be used in point-to-pointconfigurations of the PCT with an E3 overload relay. The PCT will display DeviceNet Errorif the controlkeys are operated when the PCT is connected to a

    network.

    !

The behavior of the E3 overload relay outputs, in theevent that the PCT loses connection with the E3, isdetermined by the settings of the parameter pairsOutX Pr FltStateand OutX Pr FltValue(if CommFault is enabled in the Trip Enable parameter), andOutX Dn FltStateand OutX Dn FltValue. These

parameters can be found in the E3 overload relaysOutput Setup group.

It is recommended that OutX Dn FltStateandOutX Dn FltValueremain at the factory defaultsettings. This will cause the E3 overload relayoutputs to open in the event of a communicationfault.

    1. Use a voltmeter to verify that:

the power sources output is within the specified 1125VDC.

power is present at the PCT and target device connectionterminals

    2. Verify the integrity of communication cable connections at thePCT and target device.

    3. Verify that the correct baud rate and node address settings arebeing used.

    !

Always disconnect power when checking wiringconnections. If power is left on, there may be severeelectrical shock which can cause personal injury orequpment damage.
