TERM PROJECT
Purpose:♦ Practice various field measurement procedures and
follow-up computations♦ To update a designated area of an old planimetric map
of MUN♦ To produce a topographic map of an area using:
♦ Field measurement♦ Remote sensing technique
General Procedure:
Area A
Area B
Area C
A planimetric map(both natural andman made).
A topographical mapwith 0.5 m contourintervals (FP)
A topographical mapwith 10 m contourintervals (RS)
Planimetric map
A map thatpresents therelative horizontalpositions ofnatural or culturalfeatures, by linesand symbols.

Important Notice
♦ Vertical and horizontal controls will be established first bya level loop and a closed traverse
♦ Computer usage is allowed for all calculations relating tothe traverse and level loop
♦ GIS (Geographical Information System) or AutoCADsoftware will be used for final map production
♦ The work will be carried out in phases♦ The party chiefs will be responsible for the organization of
the field and office work and the preparation of a finalreport
♦ Further information on the work to be carried out will beprovided
Term project report guideline
♦ What was the main purpose of the project?♦ Introduction
♦ What procedures or methods were used in the field?♦ What were your results?
♦ In a table or similar form, summarize your fieldmeasurements
♦ Show all calculations to arrive at final results♦ Assess the quality of your results (closure, error
ratio, precision, etc.)♦ Present final maps
♦ Conclusions
