Term 4, Week 3 - Wednesday 29 October 2014 Dear parents and caregivers We have some important updates in the days ahead. New school plans: As we come toward the end of the year the Board of Trustees begin to evaluate the progress made in the current year and then plan for 2015. Next week the Board will be sharing the updated plans for the new school and Neill will share the plans for school organisation for the rest of the year and 2015. Staffing appointments: The Board are pleased to announce that Vic Hygate has been appointed Principal of Kumara School on the West Coast. Vic has a history going back 10 years with Waitākiri, Windsor and Burwood Schools having worked at all three since January 2005. While we are very sad to be losing Vic's knowledge, expertise and passion for our school we also recognise she is making an important career move. We wish Vic all the best in her new position. Last week the BOT appointed five staff for 2015: Sophie O'Rourke (nee Hawke) - Sophie worked at Windsor in 2013 Maaike Dirkze - currently a fixed term staff member at Wāitakiri Sarah Hook - currently a fixed term staff member at Wāitakiri Joshua Halkett - currently a fixed term staff member at Wāitakiri Rebecca Lamb - Rebecca is new to our school hailing from Otago The appointments committee congratulate the successful applicants and wish those who were unsuccessful all the best in the future. We also want to take the opportunity to thank those who have been part of Waitākiri, Windsor and Burwood Schools in the past who will be moving on at the end of the year. These people have played a key role in assisting our children to continue with great learning through the very difficult times over the last few years. Nood Food Newsletter

    Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Waitākiri Primary School is proud to be an Enviroschool. Our current focus is to promote

and encourage children to bring ‘NOOD FOOD’ . NOOD FOOD is food that is not wrapped in

gladwrap, foil packets, throw-away plastic bags or containers, foil packets or any packaging

that cannot be reused. Banana skin and orange peel is okay as they are biodegradable.

We have a rather ambitious goal of becoming a Rubbish Free school and your support with

this is really appreciated. For those of you who might be just beginning this journey we

have an education evening for parents on how to create Litter-Less Lunches with The

Rubbish Whisperer (aka Helen Rupp). She will run an evening course in Week 5 of this term

at a charge of $5 per parent. More information regarding this course will follow.

To help create some excitement with NOOD FOOD we will be running a whole school

competition to see which class has the highest percentage of NOOD FOOD lunches. This will

run for two weeks from Monday 3rd November – Friday 14th November. The winners (one

class from Wetlands and one from River) will be announced on Friday 21st of November.

They will each receive one very delicious and wrapper-free Crazy Spud to have at our NOOD

    FOOD Picnic.

To follow on from this, you may have heard that we are running a NOOD FOOD Picnic on

Friday 21st November for all pupils to be held at the Wetlands Campus at 12:30pm, when

parents and family are welcome to attend. Children are invited to bring a wrapper–free

packed lunch from home to sit and eat with their buddies. There will be music, a mystery

    guest and picnic games.

If you have any queries or wish to discuss ‘NOOD FOOD further, please email either Sarah

or Glennys. [email protected] [email protected]
