The school year sure went by fast this year. Believe it or not, it is now the end of June and summer school is in full swing. The 8 th grade just completed their final year of middle school and 62 students were recognized at the farewell dinner for their academic achievement through the President’s Education Awards program. Thanks again to the PTO, staff and parents for supporting the farewell dinner. The success we experience in middle school would not be what it is without our parents and volunteers who assist us during the entire school year. Your assistance in areas such as chaperoning dances, participating in book talks, tutoring, parent advisory committee meetings, helping out on field trips, and planning the 8th grade farewell dinner are just a few things that show the overall support of our students and staff. This outreach continues to be a tremendous statement in support of our school – Thank You GAZEBO/OUTDOOR CLASSROOM PROJECT Is now complete!!! This project was completely funded by the students through the magazine sale. We would like to thank the School Board Facilities Committee, Cleary Building Corp, Meade Construction, Brian Schmidt Enterprises, and Electrical Design & Installation for their assistance in completing the project. A special thank you to the PTO for contributing to the cost of purchasing tables. The next step will be to add some garden/plant identification boxes for fall. Please Note: Although the middle school office will have reduced hours over the summer months, it will be open. Please do not hesitate to contact us. We will be happy to assist you with any needs or questions over the summer. Enjoy Summer! Please take time to take advantage of the endless learning opportunities that exist away from the regular school setting. Whether it is a planned family vacation, reading an interesting book or magazine, attending a ball game, or just taking in an activity that your family enjoys, please have a safe summer break. Executive Council – Amy Stone, Hallie Ziegler, Paige VanderWerff Students may still join PRIDE for the 2012-13 school year. More information when school opens in the fall. Color Outside the Lines A new student leadership group has emerged at Lodi Area Middle School. The goals of the group are to increase the sense of “belonging” among students, decrease bullying and encourage students to find alternatives to drug/alcohol use. Funding for this group comes from a Drug Free Communities Grant. In April, the entire eighth grade student body participated in a day of activities that included a guest speaker. Meg McCullough from CESA 5 introduced students to “colorizing”, a philosophy of learning and personality styles. The students engaged in “getting to know you” activities. Other projects the group members orchestrated included a flash mob at lunch, helping with the 6th grade Slick Tracy Poster Fair and working with Mayor Fisk on getting a cyber-bullying ordinance passed in the
City of Lodi. The members also invited seventh graders to become organized for their entry into eighth grade for 2012-13.
