Year 7 Gala Day This week students from Year 7 had the wonderful opportunity to engage in a range of sport activities with other schools. During the day students developed their team work skills whilst working collaboratively and having a lot of fun. I am very appreciative of Mr Bilbija and the PDHPE faculty who organized this highly successful event. Year 9 Café Last week teachers were invited to attend a café by the Year 9 Food Technology students who have been busy planning and creating their own café. The service was outstanding and the food was superb. A great effort by the Year 9 students and the TAS teachers who supported them.

Welfare News

by Fiona Milligan

Last Friday, we had the Formal Assemblies for Years 7,8,9 and 10. Our Formal Assemblies are a time to showcase student achievement and talent. I would like to congratulate all those who either received an award or performed on the day. Awards were given out for academic, sporting, extra curricular and performing arts achievement. To perform on stage in front of 2 year levels can be such a daunting task and I applaud those who put their hand up to do this. Thank you to the Year Advisers, Assistant Year Advisers and students who put the assemblies together. A big thank you to Ms Leung and her tech crew who always help out.

Literacy Week- Spelling Competition 2018

In order to celebrate National Literacy Week at Concord High School, the English faculty organised and conducted a whole-school spelling competition that included all students in our junior English classes from Years 7-10. It all began with a simple spelling test in each classroom and culminated in a spectacular event that featured all of our class champions in an intense Spelling Final to decide four Year Champions and an eventual overall winner. In front of a packed audience in the school’s Theatrette, our class champions spelt out a number of challenging words using only a small whiteboard and a marker. After a tight competition between some fantastic spellers, we eventually ended up with our winner. Congratulations to Bella Pietrobon (Year 9) for her outstanding achievement in becoming the 2018 Concord High School Spelling Champion. Congratulations to all of those who were involved and...keep on spelling! And a special thanks to Mr White for his efforts in organising the competition. Concord High School News 15’s Knockout Netball Competition In week 8 the 15s Knockout Netball team competed against Terrigal at Cintra Netball courts, Concord. Concord High School started strong, having their highest point score in the first quarter. Our two amazing shooters Zoe Thompson and Brooke Smith worked hard in the circle however the defensive work by Terrigal proved too strong as Concord found it difficult to maintain possession within their attacking third. At half time Terrigal pushed ahead, however this time Concords’ defence – Bailey Belanger, Ayla Ali, Ilse Knottenbelt, Paula De La Vara and Keira Will proved solid, forcing held balls and turnovers against the Terrigal girls. Defenders Sophie Gors and Pina Buda proved effective on the rebounds and intercepts as Terrigals’ attack began to lose their strong lead and Concord worked hard to improve on their score in the second half. The final quarter saw our shooters Jayde Newman and Zoe Thompson come out strong when opportunities came their way. With a few minutes to go in the game Concord worked hard to try to force turnovers and bring the ball down to their shooters, however Terrigal stayed in front to win the game. Congratulations to the following girls for all their hard work and effort during training sessions and in the game! Paula De La Vara, Zoe Thompson, Brooke Smith, Jayde Newman, Ilse Knottenbelt, Ayla Ali, Bailey Belanger, Sophie Gors, Pina Buda and Keira Will. Miss Peoples
