Road Safety Arriving & Leaving School Grounds

There have been a number of times recently that students are not supervised closely enough when leaving and arriving at school. Unfortunately we have witnessed students running across the road to parents and not using the pedestrian crossings or stepping off the footpath while distracted and playing with friends or chasing balls on to the road. We would ask that parent/carers please be vigilant of road safety rules and follow them as an example to the children when dropping and picking up from school.

Assembly Arrival

Thank you to all our parents, grandparents and carers who attend our weekly assembly. Our assemblies run from 12:15pm to 1:00pm. We ask that you arrive after 12:05pm to allow the class running assembly, time for a final practice and setup prior to their hosting the assembly. Thank you for your understanding.

NSW Premier’s Debating Competition

Our debating season finished this week. We made it to the Interzone Finals, competing against York Public School. The topic of this debate was that, ‘Well behaved students should receive half an hour off school’. Although we were beaten in this knockout round, our team of Stephanie A, Thomas B, Harrison M, Mackenzie K and Juliet R performed exceptionally well. They had good solid arguments, rebutted the other team well and spoke very well. This is our first year debating at Wilberforce Public School for many years, and we are all very proud of their hard work.

Fruit n Veg Month

Students enjoyed a delicious cup of fruits and vegetables today as part of "Fruit and Vegtember". Strawberries, blueberries, carrot, cucumber, cherry tomato, corn, snow peas, and capsicum made up our fruit and veg cups. They were a hit! Students LOVED them. Thank you to Sylvia Attard, Angela Attard, Rebecca O’Sullivan, Mel Moxon, Clarissa Greenhalgh, Mrs Quealey and Mrs Sandstrom who volunteered their time to cut and prepare all the fruit and veggies. DELICIOUS!

Thank you to Scibberas Fresh Fruit & Vegetables for donating all of the Fruit and Vegetables for our cups!

STAGE NEWS

Early Stage 1

Kindergarten Sight Word Program

Kindergarten is zooming with our new sight word program. Please remember that students must demonstrate their knowledge of the words at school before a new sheet is sent home. If your child can instantly recall their list of words at home, you can encourage writing the words in a sentence. A new list of words will only go home if the students demonstrate their skills within the classroom context. We thank all parents for their support of this program and we are seeing the benefits of it at school in improved reading. Also, students do not need to return their sight word books. They remain at home and the sight word sheets can be glued into them.

Kindergarten are loving Gymnastics!

SPORT

Stage 1 Futsal Gala Day

On Friday the 7th September forty Stage 1 students participated in the PSSA Futsal Gala Day in South Windsor. We played a number of Futsal matches with other schools from the local area. The fun day commenced with rotating soccer skill activities followed by a round robin competition. It was a wonderful day full of laughs. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that came to support us! A special thanks to Mrs Sultana, Mrs Simpson, Mrs Taylor and Mr Paton for managing the teams.

Mrs Ahmedi & Mr Wilkins

District Athletics

On Wednesday the 29th and Thursday the 31st of August I was lucky enough to accompany the students from Wilberforce Public School to the District Athletics Carnival held at McMahons Park, Kurrajong. In true Wilberforce style the students displayed great sportsmanship towards their peers as well as those from other schools, encouraging them to do their best and not give up. Well done team Wilberforce.

We had some fantastic results in both the track and field event days.

A special mention to Aiden Miller who was Runner-Up 12/13 year Boys Age Champion.

Congratulations to the following students who will be representing not only Wilberforce, but the Hawkesbury at the Regional Carnival on Wednesday 19th of September.
