Shade Structures
Work is well underway with shade structures
being installed between the canteen and the
roundabout. This is part of the landscaping
development that is taking place after building
works were completed last year.
Mobile phone policy
You may be aware that the Education department has been talking about banning
mobile phones from all state schools. At present, we do not fully know what this
looks like for us but are expecting to receive more information to pass on to parents
and students in term four, ready for term 1 2020. In the meantime, I have attached
the current KTHS mobile phone policy on page 2.
Transition Week
Last week the school hosted the grade six students as part of transition week. While
here the students experienced what a day at secondary school would be like. This
included catching the bus to Kerang Technical High School. The Grade 6 Students
commented they had a very enjoyable day and are looking forward to next year as are
we. Each group made Chicken Meatball Wraps in Food Technology , participated in a
usual timetable day at KTHS, and undertook 3 Science Pracs on the Thursday with Mrs
Thomson.

Mobile Phone Policy update
Students will be required to switch off and store their mobile phones for the duration of the school day. On Wednesday 26 June 2019 the Minister for Education, the Hon James Merlino MP, announced a new schools Mobile Phone Policy which will come into effect from Term 1, 2020. The new policy will require all stu-dents at Victorian state primary and secondary schools to switch off their mobile phones and store them se-curely from the start of the school day until the final bell.
Schools will be supported by the Department of Education and Training to engage their communities in conver-sations about the new policy, and how to best implement it within their school.
Detailed materials and resources regarding the new policy will be issued by the Department in time for the be-ginning of Term 4, 2019, to give schools a full term to work with their communities ahead of the policy coming into effect.
To support this, the Department will simultaneously release a range of resources. This will include:
easy-to-use policy templates
case studies of schools which have successfully implemented a similar policy
suggested communications for parents and students
factsheets/summaries of research to support schools to have conversations with students and families
about technology, learning and ethics detailed advice about exemptions, and how these should be identified/approved and documented. If you are interested in contributing to the design and development of the resources outlined above, please contact [email protected].

large shade sail structures are in place for students.. More works will continue in the coming months to
