NEWSLETTER 2019 TERM 3 Week 3 Edition Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate Otara Middle School SCHOOL EVENTS August 14 Mathletics Night 6pm 22 South Eastern Zone Rugby League competi- tion 27 Boys Basketball 29 Girls Basketball September 24 Cultural Performance evening 26 Cultural performance to Edmund Hillary Retirement Village REPORT EVENING Last Thursday we had our parent student conference evening. It was such a cold and wet evening but we had the best turnout of parents we have ever had. Thank you so much for coming to school to talk to your child's teacher about their learning. We had 75% turnout. Room 1……...26 parents Room 2……….26 parents Room 8……….18 parents Room 9……….23 parents Room 10……..15 parents Room 11 ……..16 parents Room 12……...19 parents Room 13 ……..26 parents The classes that managed to have all parents turn up will get pizzas for lunch this week. It is important that our children see that we are interested in their learning so thank you for showing them that you care and are showing interest. Library activities each break In class rotations Mathletics Showcase Wednesday 14 th Aug at 6pm in the hall MATHS WEEK Middle school will run a different program next week to celebrate Maths week. In the morning all student s will move around the school doing different Maths acvies with the classroom teachers. We will also pick a group of student to compete in the collegiate Mathlecs compeon on Wednesday. This is a problem solving evening worth lots of fun. We will fin- ish the week with a school wide Maths assembly quiz. COOK ISLAND LANGUAGE WEEK Read about all the acvies that have happened this week to celebrate our Cook Island students culture, language and heritage. Come to our School assembly this week.. Friday 9 August at 2.15 in the collegiate hall to share with your child's celebraon.

From the Manakidz Health Team we would like to bring to your attention the rise in Measles cases particularly in South Auckland. Measles is caused by a virus that is passed through skin contact, or nasal secretions such as coughing or sneezing. If you think you have a fever and any of these signs:

Please lets ensure our tamariki/tamaiti/tamaiki are vaccinated on time against the measles with the MMR vaccine. If you are under 17 years old still eligible for the free MMR vaccine however there maybe a cost to see the doctor. For more information online you can go onto the Ministry of Health website or the Auckland Regional Public Health Service.

TERM 3 ATTENDANCE TRACKING

This term we are looking at all students attendance. Over the last 2 terms we have had a lot of students absent from school so we have changed our procedure and if your child is away you will receive a phone call ask-ing if they are sick and when they will return to school. The class attendance in week 2 was great. With an overall school attendance total of 87.6% Our week 1 overall school attend-ance was 85% . Please help by letting us know when your child is away by ringing our school and leaving a message or texting Liz on 0274318027.
