Term 2, Week 8: 19 June 2019 Learn to Strive. Strive to Learn PRINCIPAL’S HEADLINES Welcome to the newly elected Board of Trustees. We have the same board: Jenny Walter, Anthony Searle, Lara Utatao, George Reeves, with Ondine Harrex a new member and a new staff representative, Diane Harris. I know they will work hard to keep our school moving forward in all areas. Congratulations to Honey Schaumkel who represented Pukekohe East School at the recent Franklin Speech Competition. Honey’s speech on ‘Creativity Kept Inside’ was well researched and presented. Honey won our school’s competition. All students are involved in our musical ‘History Rocks’. Practices are in full swing. We have invited students from Pukekohe Intermediate to attend the matinee to give the children encouragement for their first performance. So if you wish to purchase tickets you need to get online and complete your purchases: trybooking.co.nz. A comprehensive notice has been sent home with all requirements for the day. Please read carefully. We also ask that you cancel any after school activities on 26 June. The children will need energy for the evening performance. Please come and help us set up the Pukekohe Town Hall on 25 June - we’ll need many volunteers to help us stack chairs etc., after the evening performance. Thank you again to all the parents and teachers for your help so far. Steve Burr has kindly printed the programmes for us. This Arts experience wouldn’t have been possible without Jacqui-May Allison- Dodds who has directed the musical. All classes now have air conditioning units, so a consistent heat this winter should be helpful for teachers and children in maintaining a more consistent body temperature. This is such an improvement from the electric wall heaters. We will also be looking forward to the classrooms being cooler when summer returns. There will be a Teacher Only Day on Friday 2 August, where teachers will take part in a full day’s UBRS training with psychologists from the Ministry of Education. UBRS Understanding Behaviour, Responding Safely assists teachers, support staff and principals to encourage effective practices that enhance students’ behaviour and wellbeing. The workshop will emphasise proactive, preventative systems and practices that can be used to promote positive behaviour and wellbeing. Thank you for your co-operation by keeping your children at home on this day. We negotiated to get a Friday, so you could have a long weekend. Merillees Nicholls, Principal THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE SHOW PTA NEWS Chicken Orders for Pet Day: Order Forms are available from the school office and must be returned with payment by Friday, 5 July. Please Note: FFF date changed to 28 June not this Friday, 21 June. A big thank you to families for the mufti donations which will go towards the making up of hampers for Pet Day and the mystery bottle stall. We had a fantastic response! CAMP ADAIR - HUNUA Years three, four and five 2020 students are booked to go to camp 3-5 February. The teachers are visiting Camp Adair on Friday. There will be a meeting for all parents on Wednesday, 24 July at 6.30pm. Please mark this date on your calendar now. We will need helpers to support the teachers in all the activities. Police vets will be required, hence the early meeting. HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION SURVEY We are required to consult the community in this curriculum area.
