As we enter our second week of full time face to face teaching and learning we’d like to officially welcome all of our students back to school. Our amazing teachers are so excited to have their children back in class and be able to see in person, their smiling happy faces each day. As we return to school it is important to remember that we are still in phase 3 of our return to school and this means that additional safety rules are in place.

1. Afternoon Pick Up

Kindergarten and Year 1 students who get picked up by a parent/carer must be picked up at 2.45pm from their designated gate. This will include any siblings of the Kindergarten and Year 1 students. Students will not be released until a parent or carer is sighted. It is important that students know which gate they are being picked up. Any Kindergarten or Year 1 students who attend OOSH, afterschool care, catch a bus or walk home will stay with a teacher until 3pm. All other students will be dismissed from 3pm in grade order, beginning with Year 2. As grades are dismissed, any older siblings will be able to join them. Students who walk home will be dismissed at 3pm.

2. Drink Bottles

Students need to bring in a drink bottle filled with water as our bubblers have been switched off. Please label the drink bottle with your child’s name.

3. Sick Children

It is imperative that any child who is sick and/or showing flu like symptoms remain at home. Should a child present to school unwell, parents/carers will be immediately contacted and asked to pick up their child.

4. Parents/Carers on Site

A reminder that parents/carers will be asked not to enter the school grounds unless they have a pre-arranged appointment. The only exception to this will be parents who need to access the uniform shop. Parents/carers who are waiting to pick up their children in the afternoon are asked to adhere to social distancing measures as much as possible.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL‘S DESK…. Cherie Bradwell Principal

In line with advice from the NSW Department of Education, our school reports for Semester One, 2020 will be adjusted to cater for students learning from school and at home. Please be aware that all students may not have covered the same syllabus outcomes or content during this period. This report will not grade student achievement using the A-E scale for all outcomes. The teacher’s comments will focus on English and Mathematics as well as learning that students have undertaken in other KLAs. This report will also provide information about student attendance, their commitment to learning and identify the next steps in learning. This year Semester One reports will handed out on Thursday 30th July.

With students back to school, our award system is back into full swing. Students have been leaving each day with PBL and merit awards which is great to see. We are currently working on a solution to handing out our Assistant Principal, Deputy Principal and Principal Awards as we have been advised that we can still not meet together as a large assembly. We are still working on this. In the meantime, we are encouraging students to keep collecting their small awards (PBL, merit and sport) and keeping them safe at home. When it is time to start bringing them in, we will let you know. Thank you for your support during this phase of learning.

Recently we have received complaints from some very upset neighbours about parents from Greenway Park Public School double parking in streets and blocking private driveways when they come to pick up their children in the afternoon. This has resulted in some parents being unable to leave their house and pick up their own children from other schools. Please understand that by doing this you are breaking the law and it may result in hefty fines.

The uniform shop will be open on Monday (2.15pm-3.15pm) and Wednesday (8.15am-9.00am). Please adhere to social distancing measures when on the school site. The canteen is currently open in the mornings and at lunch time. Students need to order their own lunch in the morning. From Week 7, the canteen will also be open at recess.

Online P&C Second Hand Uniform Orders Orders for second hand uniforms can be placed with the P&C by 3pm Friday 12th June. Details appear at the end of this newsletter.

During COVID-19, many families may have seen added stress in the family home. From learning and working from home, to loss of income and overall health of loved ones we have all felt the effects of COVID-19 in our own ways. Our children have also been through unprecedented times and been exposed to a global health pandemic through news and social media. At times they may not have the words or emotional intelligence to discuss how they are feeling. If you feel like your child needs support, I have attached two wonderful services that are free of charge who both aim to assist children during these challenging times. We also have a school counselling service at school that provides short term support. You can contact the school on 8783 0859 for more information.

Kindergarten 2021 We are currently accepting applications for Kindergarten 2021. Any child who turns 5 before 1st August 2021 is eligible to start school at the beginning of next year.

To help us with our organisation of classes for 2021, parents are asked to fill in an application to enrol form and return it to the office by 28th August.

If you have moved out of the area, have students already at this school and have a child who will start kindergarten next year, you will need to fill in an out of area enrolment application.

Application to enrol forms and out of area enrolment application forms are available from the office.

Term 2 - PBL News As we return to face to face learning this term, we have begun revising the whole school expectations in each of the playgrounds and within the classrooms. Students are working incredibly hard displaying and understanding the 4 expectations, Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Proud and Be Respectful.
