MEET OUR NEW STAFFThis term we have two new teachers who have joined our teaching staff - Mrs Jayne Bishop and Mr Mubashar Nizamani. They will be teaching the Year 2 and Year 4B classes respectively.

Mrs Jayne BishopHi. My name is Jayne Bishop and I am the Year 2 class teacher. I started at IQRA College this term and have found teachers, students and the school community to be very welcoming and friendly. I bring with me 30 years of teaching experience across the Year levels and subjects from Reception to Year 10, and teacher training.

I am a literacy, numeracy and EALD specialist with further studies in Environmental and Outdoor Ed-ucation. My teaching experience includes working in urban, rural and remote schools, in SA and in-terstate, including establishing homelands schools on the Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjara lands in the far N-W of SA.

I am passionate about the environment and re-spect for its conservation. I love working with stu-dents to achieve their personal best. The students in Year 2 are striving for that.

I look forward to the developments currently hap-pening at IQRA College as it blooms as a college of excellence.

Mr Mubashar NizamaniAssalamoAlaikum wr wbr, I am Mubashar Nizamani and really pleased to join Iqra College. I have been working as a teacher since I was only 19 years old. I have taught overseas and in Australia including Independent and public schools and have worked in several Islamic schools in Australia. I am really delighted to see the cur-riculum set-up especially with Islamic Studies and

Quran which is badly needed in order to inculcate authentic knowledge of Islamic to our children. I can hardly hear any foul language by our children which is a great manifesto of the best manners. May Allah give us strength to serve the community in the best possible way. It always gives me a plea-sure to help the struggling students.

EALD RAMADAN ACTIVITIESThe EAL/D students have been creating the joy-ous mood of Ramadan in the classroom by dec-orating the school and learning precious values.

They brainstormed for values, wrote on stars and assembled them in the shape of moon. The moon and the stars reflect a collaborative work of stu-dents from different year levels.

The year sevens incorporated ICT skills into the lessons in the process of researching on mosques around the world. The year eights had an inter-action on how Ramadan and Eid are celebrated in Jordan (where they used to live) and Australia. As a follow up activity, they wrote a text based on their experiences.

PE CORNERDear parents, the Adelaide Crows are holding a 9 A Side football carnival on June 15th for the Year 5-7 girls to be held at Glenelg Oval. So far I have 3 nominations and need another 8 at least. If your child is keen on playing, the front office have nom-ination forms for you to fill out.

Starting this week we have the girls year 6-10 par-taking in table tennis as part of their PE and the boys with tennis. In week 6-10 both boys and girls undertake coaching lessons in baseball and T/Ball. These lessons are part of the Funding Schools program and are part of the Australian Curriculum which determines the national physical education learning for all schools. These sessions also allow all students to experience other sports they nec-essarily wouldn’t have the opportunity to try oth-erwise.

The school has just purchased new sporting equip-ment for all year levels, so we are progressing as a faculty with positive results.

One of our year 5 students, Zayden Kamish com-petes in the state cross country championships coming up in June and we wish him all the best.

Take care

Mr Michael O’DonnellPE Coordinator

FRIENDLY REMINDERAt times, Allah out of love for His servants, would choose YOU to facilitate a good deed.

Even though you didnt intend it, you didn’t plan it, you didn’t ask for it and you didn’t even know about it. To show you how much He loves YOU, He would create a difficulty in someone’s life and a need for charity in another persons life and put you in the middle as a means of fulfilling their needs and get-ting rewarded in the process. It’s a gift from Allah. It’s a sign Allah wants you to know Him and that He wants good for you. Don’t be arrogant, don’t think “I don’t have time” or “I have enough things to deal with”. Be humble, help His servants sincerely to please Him and He will facilitate and satisfy your needs in difficult times as well as those around you.

Remember Allah (by doing good deeds) in times of ease and Allah will remember you in times of diffi-culty.

STAR PUPIL

The bell rang for Zuhur prayer. Children were streaming into the toilets to take wudhu. Some of them were chatting, some of them listening to the friends’ talk, while others were taking wudhu. One student attracted my attention – she had just finished taking her wudhu and started to wipe her arms with the paper. Once done, she threw her pa-per into the bin and……….. bent down to pick up pa-pers that were littered by other girls. Her action just melted my heart because, she did it without being asked. She is none other than Nayli Noor Hafiz.

Some children think they should not be picking up litters left by others. Others pick up only when asked to. Nayli did it on her own.

One who contributes to the cleanliness of the school is so great and will be rewarded by ALLAH (S.W.) as the person is creating a clean environ-ment for others.

Nayli is, indeed, a STAR pupil of IQRA College!

YR 7 BABY PHOTO COMPETITIONWe are having a baby photo competition in our year 7 class and I have asked all students to bring in a photo of them when they were a baby. Is it possible for all students to have them to me by Wednesday of next week please?
