“We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Land on which our School is situated. We pay our respects to Barapa Barapa Elders past, present and future.”
KTHS COMMUNITY
As we progress through the COVID 19 Lockdown, the message still coming from the Premier is to continue to work from
home if you are able to. Having said that, there are a few VCE subjects that have been allowed to operate at school on a
limited basis. These subjects are predominately ones that have a practical component to them and include subjects like
Vet Auto, Vet Furnishing and VET hospitality. When these classes have operated we have been very aware of applying
appropriate hygiene practices like social distancing, the number of students to a classroom, hand sanitizer and coughing or
sneezing into your arm, staying home if you are unwell.
Current circumstances are tough. Some students have thrived able to work without distraction and being organised, others
are struggling without a teacher physically present to keep them on task, everything in between. Whichever category you
fall into, you can be assured that we are here to help. Staff have been organised into teams with students to do ‘check ins’
to see how everyone is coping. Parents have access to XUNO to post messages, and we have the school Wellbeing
contact number that will lead to our assistance. Please keep this in mind as you are not alone., we are here with you
through this.
I just wanted to give you an insight on the number of posts between students and staff since COVID 19 and remote
learning have become the new normal. These figures do not account for emails, webex, lesson Plans, markbook
comments or phone calls. A ‘post’ is an individual message between staff and students on XUNO.
These figures are from Tuesday 05/05/2020
As of 9:30pm 5th May there had been 651 posts for the day.
Earliest post: 12:23am- by a student – there were also posts
at 2:00am and 3:00am by students.
Earliest Staff Response: 7:36am
Latest Staff post: 11:10pm. (the day before)
Last weekend there were 111 posts.
Average number of posts per day: - 540 per day
Since the start of Term 2, there has been 14,459 posts over 27 days
(with 3 weekends).
Staff and students are certainly staying connected!
Next week you will be receiving an interim report reflecting how your
child is coping through remote learning. The report specifically provides
information on how engaged your child is in their remote learning. Look
out for this on XUNO Friday 15th May.

We are so proud of how you are all embracing your schooling at home. As we are on
our computers so much more, we need to be aware of our own cyber safety.
• Never meet someone on the internet, unless you know them in person.
• Think before you post, once you press send, it’s in the cyber world forever and
you can never get it back. Posts can come back at ‘bite’ you when you least expect
it.
• If you are uncomfortable about something on the internet, please speak to an
adult or expert to deal with it.
• Always be kind when you post and you won’t get into trouble.
Cheers, Meg

Last week Ms Pearce set up the beginning of food challenges each week through remote
learning at home, so students can keep up their cooking skills, learn new recipes and
methods of preparation. Also a great way to help out in the family home. We have loved
trialling the recipes ourselves, as well as see our students work. Hopefully the kitchen’s
have been left clean as well! A big thankyou to Ms Pearce for her transition into
teaching online for all our students who love Food Technology.

Nothing makes Mother’s Day more special for Mum’s, Nan’s, Gran’s and the special guardians in
our lives than a personal gift, like something baked with love, made with love, flowers from the
garden popped in a vase, or just your time with her.
This Mother’s Day is a great day to remember all those little things are the most important.
Ms Pearce has shared a traditional sponge cake recipe that are made with lots of LOVE!
Be creative with how you top your cake, sifted icing sugar, passionfruit icing, whipped cream,
loads of fresh fruit like strawberries or banana. You will have most mums and grandparents
remembering cherished memories of special family recipes at gatherings.
Have a go and make sure you send us your pics.
Remember if your first go isn’t a masterpiece, you can always disguise it with toppings, and you
can always have another crack at it :)

Remember our Faces ~ Staff Profiles Tessa Demaria
I can’t go past this photo from our trip to
South Africa in 2015. One of my closest
friends got married over there and they had a
traditional Zulu Warrior Dance Performance,
and they insisted on a photo with my husband
Daniel and myself. Their performance and
proud culture was mind-blowing. An
experience I will treasure forever.

Staff Profiles Brendon Beard
This week began with May the 4th for Star Wars fans out there. Our biggest fan at KTHS is
undoubtedly Mr Beard. For those that missed sharing the day with Beardy, here are some
of his favourite SW quotes. We also have a dad in our School Community that is known to
drive to Melbourne to watch the latest movie screenings and Star Wars Movie Marathons.
“Much to learn you still have”
“Oh no, my young Jedi. You will find that it is you who are mistaken, about a great many things.”
“Your arrogance blinds you Master Yoda. Now you will experience the FULL POWER of the Dark Side.
Comes before little green friend.”
“Who’s the more foolish: the fool, or the fool who follows him?”
“The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.”
“Truly wonderful the mind of a child is.”
“The force is strong with this one.”

Tips for School + Work Home Desk Set UpFROM NDCH OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST – ZOE TREACY
Choose a nice chair: Try and use a chair that supports
your spine. Support around your lower back can help
you sit up straight. If you have a chair without support,
try rolling up a towel and placing it in the lower curve of
your back. A height adjustable chair is also good. If you
don’t have one try using a firm cushion to sit higher.
Position: When sitting at your desk keep your wrists
straight and your arms at or below elbow level. Have
your knees in line with your hips and your feet touching
the floor. Adjust your chair to your desk - if your feet
don’t reach the floor, put a box or books under them.
Most used items: Keep your most used items close by so
that you don’t have to keep reaching. Pen and paper,
phone, keyboard and mouse. Stand up to reach
anything that cannot be reached while sitting down –
use this time to go for a walk around the house, pretend
it is the walk to the printer or scanner in the office.
Elevated computer screen: You don’t need a fancy
stand. Use something from home – a ream of paper, a
box or a folder. Stretch your arms in front of you, and
that is where you want your screen to sit. The top third of
the screen should be at your eye level. If you are using a
laptop you will need to have a separate keyboard and
mouse so that you are not reaching up.
