Dear Parents, Teachers and Friends,
On the weekend the children receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this year
made their commitment at the 10:00am parish mass. We wish these students the
very best as they prepare to receive the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit at their
Confirmation Mass on the 21st August, where Bishop Justin will be the main
Celebrant.
Confirmation is one of the Sacraments of Initiation, the others being Baptism
and Holy Eucharist. Initially in the early years of the church, all three were
administered at the same time, however with the necessity of having the Bishop
present it was decided to split the sacraments. The focus now is that the students
receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation do so of their own volition and
‘confirm’ the decision made by their parents at Baptism to become members of
the Catholic faith.
We will continue to pray for our Year 6 students as they receive their final
Sacrament of Initiation
PERGOLA UPGRADE
Many thanks to our hard working groundsman, Mr Peter Brooks, for the
excellent job he has done in rejuvenating our large oval pergola. It has become a
feature of the oval and definitely adds a splash of colour to that section of the
school.
CAMBODIA TRIP
With just over 2 weeks to go, our travellers are getting excited about their trip to
Cambodia. A lot of hard work has gone into preparations thus far and they are
on the countdown to their departure date of the 29th June.
PARENT/CHILD COMMUNION WORKSHOP
There will be a workshop for those students preparing to receive their First
Eucharist on the 22nd June and their parents. It is due to begin at 6:00 pm and it
is important that all be in attendance.

SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMS 2014
First Holy Communion
Over the past six weeks, our children have been preparing to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for
the first time. Please keep these children, and their prayer buddies, in your prayers over the next two weeks.
They will receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on the Feast of Corpus Christie (Body of Christ)
Sunday 22 June.
The final meeting for First Holy Communion will be held this Thursday 12 June at 6:00pm. Please bring
along your completed Sacramental booklet as well as your First Holy Communion commitment form.
From the REC – Kate Chilvers Confirmation
The first meeting for the Sacrament of Confirmation was held last Thursday. If you would like your child to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2014, but missed this meeting, it is essential that you touch base with Fr Adam, Mr Windle or Miss Chilvers as soon as possible.
Cambodia Update In 19 days a group of seven students and five adults will be leaving Australia for the hot and humid environs of Cambodia. The students have achieved an incredible target in the fundraising efforts and are well on track to be able to sink four wells, support a teacher for at least 12 months, provide funds for a milk program in an orphanage in Siem Reap as well as provide resources for a school and home for landmine victims. This is an amazing achievement!
Thank you to everyone who has supported this social justice project over the past 12 months. Thank you to the Middle School students for participating in the Middle School Lock-in on Friday night. Thanks to their involvement (and non-stop eating) a total of $590 was raised. These funds will be used to support House of Joy, an orphanage in Siem Reap. The night could not have happened without the organisation of our Year 10 students and the support of the following teachers: Sandra Griffiths, Melissa Slattery, Natalie Liddelow, Nazzim Khan, Katrina Ward, Sam Punch, Mrs Bassett, Nicole Nuttall and Maria Yelash. Thank you also to Louise Faithfull for organising movie packs for all participants. We had a great night, and although not much sleep was had, the students seemed to enjoy themselves...maybe we can do it all again in Term 4!
We will be running three more events in a last ditch effort to achieve our goals for 2014, if you are able to support any of these projects your assistance would be very welcome:
Friday 13 June - Adult movie night - The Killing Fields As part of their preparation for travel to Cambodia the Year 10 students have a modern history briefing followed by a viewing of ‘The Killing Fields’. The purpose of this is to help set the current social, political and economic context of Cambodia. We welcome anyone who is interested in viewing this film to join us on Friday night 6-8pm in the school hall. A raffle and simple refreshments will be for sale on the night; entry to view the film is free. Please note this film is rated M and is therefore inappropriate for children under 15 years of age, it contains graphic violence.
Friday 20 June – Primary School Social We will be holding two sessions of our primary school social. Children in Kindy to Year 2 are welcome to join us between 4:30-5:30pm. This will be followed by a session for the older children, Year 3 to 6 from 6:00-7:30pm. Please refer to the special flyer for details about entry and canteen prices. Please note we will be operating our “parents’ nook” once again so feel free to come along and relax while your children dance the night away!
School Bag Appeal We will be once again running our ‘School Bag Appeal’. Please refer to the separate flyer for details about items needed and who these items are for.
Social Justice Cambodia Service Projects The St Mary’s Breakfast Club Each Thursday morning this term Hot Chocolate and Fruit Smoothies will be available to provide a healthy start to the day for our staff and students. These will be available at a cost of $1:00 per cup. Thank you to Mrs Griffiths for generously donating all the ingredients for this fundraising venture. All funds raised through this project will be donated to the House of Joy, an orphanage run by the Sisters of Charity in Siem Reap.
Up-Coming Events: Primary School Social – Friday 20 June (TBC)
Other Social Justice Projects Help Support the Royal Flying Doctors! Our Mini-Vinnies group have been doing an awesome job of collecting cans in support of the Royal Flying Doctors. We are urgently trying to get cans in before the end of the financial year. If you have cans at home please bring them in. They can be left outside my office (Miss Chilvers) or handed to one of the Mini-Vinnies representatives in Year 3. On behalf of the Royal Flying Doctors I would like to thank everyone who has 'donated cans' so far this year! God Bless Kate Chilvers Religious Education Co-ordinator
Pre Primary and Year One On Monday morning the Pre-Primary and Year One classes attended the theatre to watch a musical comedy, 'Pete the Sheep' performed by the Monkey Baa Theatre Company. This excursion provided the children with the opportunity to build on their own social experiences and to connect with the local community. We would like to thank the parents and carers who accompanied us to this event, Sophie, Tammy Bumbak, Damien Preston, Shannon Bettini, Rachel Smith, Carolyn Legg and Ceri Spackman. Read on to find out the thoughts of some of the young audience who attended the live show. “When the sheep went baaaaaaa. It was a funny bit” Jack “I liked the dogs. I liked the sheep as well. They were funny” Noah “It was very funny when the lambs came to where we sat. It was very funny” Boston “I liked it because it was funny. I liked the dogs” Rose “I thought it was funny when the dog thought the sheep poo were maltesers” Blake “I liked when the stage changed from a shearing shed to a pretty sheep salon” Bridget “I loved the cool sheep hair styles” Alex
Kind Regards
