Industrial Arts / Computing Studies / STEM - Griffith SiteTrial Examinations: students in Year 12 are com-pleting their Trial HSC examinations during Weeks 9 and 10. From the Griffith Site we have students sitting papers for Engineering Studies and Industrial Technology.

Year 12 ENGINEERING STUDIESStudents have completed the Civil Structures and Personal and Public Transport topics and are nearing completion of the Aeronautical Engineer-ing topic. Their final topic, which they will start in Term 3, is Telecommunications Engineering.

Year 12 INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGYThe major project deadline is looming! The Board of Studies has set Thursday 15th August as the final day students can work on their major projects and folio’s. This is the Thursday of Term 3 Week 4. Hence, students need to work consistently over the next 8 weeks or so to meet this deadline and give themselves their best chance to succeed.

Year 11 INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGYStudents in this class are progressing well on the bedside table practical project and associated folio. This project is due at the end of Week 6 next term. All students are working well and currently gluing the frame and top together for the project. Once this is complete students will need to construct a dovetail drawer and apply a finish using a spray gun.

Year 10 iSTEMStudents studying iSTEM in Year 10 have spend much of this term learning about Cyber Security. Their current unit is centred around solar power and will culminate with the construction of a solar vehicle.

Year 10 TIMBER 200 hrsStudents studying Industrial Technology TIMBER 200 hrs in Year 10 are nearing completion of the Mantel Clock project. Once this project is com-plete, students will begin work on a step ladder.

Year 9 TIMBERYear 9 Timber are working on the Upholstered Stool and associated folio. These will both be due towards the end of Term 3. Students are enjoy-

ing this unit and producing some quality work. Students are reminded that the written folio is an important part of this unit and must be completed and submitted along with the practical project.

Year 9 iSTEMStudents studying iSTEM in Year 9 have completed a number of activities such as setting up and test-ing electrical circuits using multimeters and un-derstanding the mechanical properties of materials used in Civil Engineering applications. Another task this Semester required students to design a bridge, as cheaply as possible that would pass a load test, using computer simulation software to meet a predefined set of constraints. Currently, students are completing a task that requires them to work in teams to design and construct an aero-plane and a bottle rocket. This task will introduce the concepts relating to aerodynamics and flight.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a school-wide behaviour manage-ment strategy. PBL encourages positive behaviour from students, which has been shown to improve their self-concept and motivation to learn.

PBL is a whole school approach to address problem behaviour and reduce its effects on student learning and on the school community as a whole.

Students are explicitly taught what behaviours are expected of them in dif-ferent settings across the school. Once a week during Learning Coach this occurs for all students across both sites.

At Murrumbidgee Regional High School we have four core values which we expect our whole school community to follow. These are Respectful Respon-sible Resilient, Learners.

More information about PBL will be regularly communicated through The Channel and the MRHS Facebook page.

Year 12 Report - Wade SiteThe year is flying by and Year 12 only have 12 weeks of school left! Students should be busy studying and preparing for their Trial Examaniations which will be in Week 9 and 10. Timetables were handed out at our Year Meeting and students can collect a spare timetable from either myself or Mr Collis. Students should be creating a study timetable that also includes regular breaks, exercise and sleep to ensure they are well rested and prepared for the stressful weeks ahead.

The Year 12 Fundraising Committee held their final event for the year in Week 7 hosting a Trivia Night. The night was very successful with the committee raising just over $3300.00! A huge thank you must go out to Glen Cappello, David Ramponi and ‘Simmo’ for running the trivia questions and games. We also must thank all of the local businesses who supported the event by donating gift vouchers, hampers and prizes. It really shows what a great community we live in when so many people go out of their way to support local school students and charitable causes. The Year 12 Fundraising Committee will decide on who the donations will be made to, with a focus on supporting local youth services and facilities.

Mr Collis and I would like to wish Year 12 good luck for their Trial examinations. We hope students and their families have a restful and safe holiday, ready to return for one last ever term of school!

Wade Site: Miss Jessy McRae and Mr Dennis Collis - 6962 4022

Thank you to all the students, friends, family, staff and community members who took part in the fun and games at the Year 12 Trivia Night Fundraiser.

Year 12 Report - Griffith SiteONE TERM TO GO! Mixed emotions for me, but lots of excitement for Year 12 in the countdown on their time with us at Murrumbidgee Regional High School – Griffith site.

The highlight of Term 1 for our Year 12 students was the Athletics Carnival in Week 11. Students ran the canteen and dressed up in their House colours to pro-mote school spirit and celebrate our first whole school combined event. Students also received their reports at our first ever Report Ceremony, with several students taking home Achievement and Principal’s Awards on the day.

Term 2 has been a quiet term while student prepared for their Trial Examinations. Lots of extra hours put in by teachers has been very much appreciated by our Year 12 students and has prepared them well for their last examination before the HSC in October.

Lots of fun to look forward to in Term 3, with a variety of fundraising activities planned. Students are also planning their Graduation Ball for Saturday 16th

November. If you would like to be involved in the Griffith Site Par-ent Committee, please email [email protected].

I would like to take this opportu-nity to remind Year 12 that while Term 3 will be all about celebrat-ing your last term together, atten-

dance is still as important as ever. I look forward to sharing lots of laughs and good times with you all in the coming months. Con-gratulations on your journey so far!

PDHPE Report - Wade SiteThe start of 2019 has been met with many changes in the PDHPE faculty at the Wade Site with us farewelling Mr Brad Clark to the Griffith Site and also Mr Tim Cranston who has taken up a position in Dunedoo. With these departures we welcome Mr Peter Mulholland to the faculty and also have Mr Robert Taylor teaching some PDHPE as well.

Our Year 9 & 10 PDHPE classes have been adjusting to the new structure of Thursday afternoon sport. Additionally our Year 7 & 9 classes have started to complete content for the new National Curriculum in theory and practical lessons. As for our various elective classes, they have all been hard at work in their respective areas.

CHILD STUDIESThis term in Year 9 Child Studies, students took on the challenge of caring for our simulation baby. Each student cares for the baby for one school day and must attend to its cries and needs. The baby cries for feeding, burping, soothing, nappy changes and rocking are programmed based on a real mother's daily diary entries. Students are faced with the difficult reality of not knowing what new born baby's cries mean. In addition to caring for the baby's needs, students must be careful to handle the baby correctly. The baby records mishandling including not supporting the head, shaking, and rough handling or not maintain the baby's body temperature. The Year 9 students had a great time developing these skills and the chance to participate in a more practical and unusual assessment task. Next term students can look forward to preparing and cooking food that cater to children's nutritional needs and preferences.

Year 10 Child Studies have been working exceptionally well this term on their “Play and the developing child” unit. Their assessment task required them to create a child’s educational toy that was appropriate for use for a child aged 0-5 years old. They went above and beyond and designed some excellent toys, and are excited to take them out to some local preschools next semester. Well done year 10, very impressive.

Child StudiesPASSIn Year 9 PASS students have been learning about risk assessment in sport. Students have conducted

a risk assessment of various sporting sites around the school. Students have also been learning about sports injuries and management of sports injuries. Miss Baddock and Mr. Mulholland are really enjoying getting to know their new class and have been impressed by their athletic ability - particularly in practical lessons.

Select Year 10 PASS students volunteered their time to assist with officiating at Zone Athletics. Thank you to all students involved and for their continued support of our Sports programs. Students have been studying the history of Australian Sport and have really enjoyed learning about some major sporting events in Australia's history. SENIOR CLASSESOur senior classes have been working hard in their perspective classes. Our Year 12 HSC Dance class had the opportunity in Term 1 to travel to Sydney to watch the HSC call-back performances, which allowed the girls to witness what a potential band 6 performance looks like. While they were there they were also given the opportunity to attend the Sydney Dance Company to take part in a dance workshop. Which allowed the girls to further their knowledge and performance skills. Term 2 the girls have been hard at work this choreographing, preparing and polishing for the HSC practical marking which commence next term. We wish these girls good luck for their upcoming practical exam.

Our Year 12 PDHPE cohort have been hard at work preparing for their upcoming Trial Examination that will take place on Friday 5th July from 9:00-11:35am.

In PDHPE the Year 11 cohort have just completed their First Aid unit of work in which they were provided the opportunity to complete their Applied First Aid certificate to supplement their First Aid studies. Many students took up this opportunity along with PDHPE students from the Griffith site.

Our Year 11 SLR group are currently completing a practical European Handball assessment in their Thursday afternoon classes after ‘working out’ in their fitness unit last term. Year 12 SLR class have been honing their navigation skills by completing orienteering with the use of an old school compass. The boys have been completing their assessment by creating their orienteering course as well as completing a peers.

PDHPE Report - Griffith SiteAs always it has been a very busy time for the PDHPE Faculty during Semester One with end-less sporting opportunities for our students and a lot of academ-ic work happening too.

The faculty has welcomed four new staff with Mr Ranney and Mr Clark being permanently appointed, along with Mr Smith and most recently Ms Welch who have both joined the team for 2019.

Junior PDHPEThis year sport has been integrat-ed into the curriculum for Years 7 and 8. These lessons are taught under the guidance of trained PDHPE teachers and are aimed at supporting students overall fit-ness, agility and teamwork skills. The focus of this is to support students in their individual skill

development and instil in them the value of lifelong physical activity.

With the roll out of a new junior PDHPE syllabus throughout 2019-2020, the Wade and Griffith faculties have been working very closely together in programing our new units of work for Years 7 and 9. Students in Year 7 have been learning about factors that shape their personal identity, the changes and challenges of puber-ty, skills needed to seek help and the importance of being safe on-line. In Year 9 students have been learning about the qualities and skills they need to support safe and healthy intimate relation-ships, along with the strategies required to protect their personal health.

In Years 8 and 10, students are

continuing to learn from the old junior syllabus for 2019, with the new syllabus being implemented from 2020. In Year 8 students have been learning about risk taking behaviours, and how their lifestyle habits can promote good health. In Year 10 students have been developing their knowledge and skills required as young driv-ers to stay safe on the road, along with the many roles they can adopt in physical activity beyond being an athlete.

For the first time in many years, the Griffith Site is delivering the Stage 5 Child Studies course. The students have been learning about the extensive planning that often goes into place when choosing to start a family, along with the challenges and demands of becoming a first time parent.

PDHPE - Griffith Site continued ....Stage 6In Stage 6, close collaboration has been occurring with the Wade and Griffith faculties and the Wade Home Economics faculty in delivering our courses of SLR, PDHPE and CAFS. Year 12 students have been busily preparing for their Trial HSC Examinations which have begun this week. We thank all staff for the efforts they have put into preparing the students for these examinations and wish all students the best of luck with these.

Year 11 PDHPE had the opportunity to complete their Senior First Aid certificate as part of their First Aid unit earlier this term. We’d like to thank Ms McKenzie for all her work in organising this excellent experience. A great day was had by those students who attended.

The ‘Life Ready’ program is a mandatory 25-hour course for students in NSWDEC schools, designed to pre-pare and support them as they encounter situations related to health and safety in their adult lives. This year, all Year 11 students have the fantastic opportunity to attend a 3 day combined site excursion for the delivery of this program in the first week of Term 4. Students have received their information regarding this excursion from their Year Advisor Mrs Stein. If you have any questions regarding this excursion please don’t hesitate to give the school a call. For students choosing not to attend the excursion a program will be run by our PDHPE staff on-site to ensure they also receive this valuable learning opportunity.

With all Year 11 students moving into the final term of their Preliminary courses very soon, we encourage parents and guardians to discuss with their children the assessment tasks they have coming up. For senior students to truly excel in their studies, it is important that they establish a regular at home study routine to consolidate the learning that is taking place in the classroom.
